With Rondo leading the league in assists (by almost two a game) and the almost certainty that he will not be in the All-star game (which he shouldn’t) I was wondering how often players who lead the league in main statistical categories (pts, reb, ast) do not make the All-star game?

Whiteside is leading the league in blocks per game and I don’t think he makes the All Star game.

So it looks like fans, and some NBA experts, only see points.

Drummond is the rebound leader?  Yet to be an All-Star, so not a lock to get there this season.

Who would honestly have time to go through every statistical category from every season ever played and then cross-match that with the All Star team.

Even if I did have that information presented to me…my interest levels in the findings would remain low regardless.

Anyhow…Here’s one….in 2006/07 #Zaza led the league in fouls and (shock) wasn’t selected for the All Star team.

I remember in 2011 Nash got snubbed from the All-Star game and he led the league in assists with 11.4. He also averaged 14.7 PPG while shooting 49/40/91, so yeah he was a pretty big snub but he lost out to a prime CP3 and Deron Williams as well as Russell Westbrook in his first huge year.

Also some of you guys might remember Rod Strickland being PO’d in 1998 for not making the All-Star game. He said that if he was selected the following year he’d refuse to play. He led the league in assists with 10.5 and scored 17.8 PPG. He was named a second team All-NBA.

In 1988, John Stockton might have been the biggest All-Star snub in NBA history. He finished the year with 13.8 APG, 3.0 SPG and scored 14.7 PPG with a 57 FG% and 84 FT%.

In the late 70s early 80s Kevin Porter led the league in APG four times, and never made the All-Star game. He was before even my time though (or at least before I was old enough to follow the NBA) so I’m not actually sure how deserving he would have been.

Bill Laimbeer made 4 All-Star games but in 1986 when he led the league in RPG with 13.1 and scored 16.6 PPG on 49 FG% and 83 FT% he wasn’t selected.

Then again Dennis Rodman won 7 rebounding titles and only made 2 All-Star games, so he missed out on several years when he was a league leader.

On a bit of a somewhat related sidenote Drew Brees absolutely did not deserve to be named to the Pro Bowl this year over MVP candidates like Cam Newton, Carson Palmer and Russell Wilson. But years from now looking back on his numbers from this season: a league leading 4870 passing yards in 15 games, 68.3 completion percentage, 32 TDs with 11 INTs and a QB rating of 101, people are going to be shocked he was left out.

I’m pretty sure mark Eaton led the league in blocks quite a few times in the 80s and I’m almost positive he was never an all-star.

1989, there were like 4 Jazz players (I think) selected to be an All Star and I know he was one of them.
