Bosnian-Bobcats-FanParticipantWho do you think they hire as coach?
Where will Paul Pierce play for next season? Does he get traded on draft night?
What about Rondo…do you keep him and rebuild around him coming off the injury or do you try and trade him?
KG….does he retire?…can’t go to the Clippers since the NBA won’t allow it…
Interesting offseason coming up for Danny Ainge and the Celtics…No idea who they go for as coach…maybe Brian Shaw? Feel like he would be a nice fit with Rajon Rondo if they keep him of course
Feel like Pierce will also end up on the Clippers….Or the Nets…they tried to trade for him this past season but were unsuccessful…Maybe they’d give Boston their 1st rounder this year since they’re in Win now mode…
If I’m Boston i shop Rondo but ultimately keep him….Rondo, Bradley and Green is a solid core for Boston…if they get rid of KG and Pierce they will have more cap space to sign some solid free agents as well…they’ll be fine i believe
As for KG i think he will retire especially if Pierce leaves…But according to Woj he might play one more year…so who knows
Thanks for reading guys, look forward to seeing everyones answers!!

NihochuParticipantI honestly think they should start rebuilding, Doc made that team work, and with no Ray Allen, Injured Rondo, I think its best for them to rebuild .Use the pieces they have for trades for the 2014 draft or for some talanted young players who havent quite blossomed yet.

capecodderParticipantThank goodness the Doc to LAC ordeal is over…..it was sort of like the last days of Francos life….several updates a day
Now the Pierce trade for 31 and 33 picks and a trade exception from Cleveland is too good to pass up
The C’s are not contenders….need to move on
If KG wants to come back….fine….if not get assets

King CaluchaParticipantI agree that the C’s are not contenders anymore. But I think they can get more for Pierce since he’s still productive. I’d rather have a young player + 1st round pick instead of 2 2nd rounders and trade exception.

Mr. HookShotParticipantAbout your comment that Brian Shaw will fit with Rondo: Shaw is one of the disciples of Phil Jackson, preaching the Triangel Offense. This requires a point-forwardesque guy, like Pippen (during Jackson’s time with the Bulls) or Odom (during Jackson’s time with the Lakers). Secondly, it requires the PG to shoot, while the point-forward takes some initiative on offense. So projecting this to the Celtics, who have no real point-forward (maybe Green could develop a bit?), and Rondo as your PG is a horrible shooter from the outside. That is why I think they will not go for Brian Shaw, but they should go for a coach who solidifies the strenghts of your best player (which is Rondo, do the Celtics build around him?). Rondo is very good at pressure defense and up-tempo offense, so name some other options who will fit this team?

GottaBeTheShoesParticipantI think they’re set up for a quick rebuild, they just have to get rid of Pierce and KG. Bradley, Rondo, Green (who played really well in the Knicks series and had a decent season), Sullinger (really good season before injury), and Crawford (needs work, but had a pretty good year) is a great young core. Just missing a couple key pieces and Boston can get players quite well in FA. Maybe even only have one really bad year (2013-2014) and pick the right guy in the lottery (could also possibly get a steal at 16 this year).

slepchorParticipantAinge is one of my favorite GMs (not that it says anything lol) so I think he will once more make things work for the team. If I were him I would have started rebuilding yesterday. Keep Rondo, and make Jeff Green your second option. The guy was underrated pretty much everywhere he played. Sully at 4, draft one (or two) of the many big men available, and get a sg in FA. And what’s with Pierce? Him for two second round picks? Has his game gotten that lame or what? The only way this move makes sense is if they want to go after Iggy or Big Al.

GottaBeTheShoesParticipantPaul Pierce is still very productive,
His statline is
PPG RPG APG SPG
18.6….6.3…4.8…1.1Pretty damn good for anyone let alone an aging guy that has no athleticism left.

mike_r232ParticipantIt would be in the best interest for a team like the Celtics to completely rebuild. You cannot ride the mediocrity treadmill (teams picking 12-20) as you will never get anywhere. Getting a 1st for your coach is a great start. Now you will need to move both Pierce (which hurts me as a long time Celtics fan, but it has to happen) and KG. KG’s best landing place is still the Clippers. As Marc Stein reported, they might be able to get the NBA to sign off on a 3 team trade. I personally don’t think the Celtics should take DeAndre Jordan. The guy is just not a basketball player. He makes highlight dunk plays, misses free throws, and that’s about it. He’s a worse Javale McGee. I think if they did something along these lines, they would be better off:
BOS gives KG to the Clippers and receives a 1st from the Clippers, Richard Jefferson’s expiring contract, and a 2nd from GS
GS gives Richard Jefferson and 2nd to BOS and receives DeAndre Jordan from the Clippers
Clippers give DeAndre Jordan to GS and a 1st to Boston and receives KG
This might not be the best deal, but it gives them cap space after this coming season as well as a couple more draft picks that are great to stockpile. For Pierce, you will most likely end up with pennies on the dollar. The Cleveland deal with the two early second rounders might be one of the better deals you can get. If you could get them to change their mind to a future 1st, then I do the deal.
Next, you have to consider trading Rondo once he is healthy. Not sure what kind of value you can get for him, but they have to at least pursue it. Basically, I would keep Sullinger and Green (possibly Bradley), but would let anyone else go for the right price. Hate to see a rebuild like this happen, and Boston fans will surely hate it, but Danny Ainge knows how to orchestrate something of this magnitude as he traded multiple young assets for KG and Ray Ray. I’d love to see what he can do his second time around.
