RUDEBOY_ParticipantESPN’s Chris Sheridan is reporting that the New Orleans Hornets and the Toronto Raptors are close to completing a 5 player deal that involves Peja Stojakovic..According to reports the Hornets will send Stojakovic & guard Jerryd Bayless to Toronto in exchange for guards Jarrett Jack,Marcus Banks and center David Anderson…
The deal was close to completion friday night ,but was held up becuz of the amount of cash the Hornets will send Toronto..
Bayless was once considered an up and coming star.now he’s being pass around like a $5 hooker at a bachelor party…

Anton123ParticipantWell at least now I’m pretty sure Bayless will get playing time, happy for him.
I hope the Hornets give Marcus Banks at least 10 mins a game, he can ball.
The Raptors are clearing up their salary situation and are surely losing this season, they just gave up their starting PG and backup C for cash. When does Ed Davis come back?

delfamParticipantwhy is NOH dueing this? It’s not like Jack is going to play alot with Paul getting all the minutes and there giving a way a huge expiring.

RUDEBOY_Participanti’m not sure but i think the 3 players the hornets are getting will be free agents next year…
plus jack gives them a solid backup and he can also play some shooting guard…

SwatLakeCityParticipantFinally we can see just how good Bayless is. I’d really like to see what he can do with starters minutes. Unfortunately this trade can’t go through until Christmas time because according to ESPN’s trade machine Jerryd Bayless cannot be traded in combination with another player, although he can be traded by himself.

sheltwon3ParticipantBayless looked alright in small minutes for New Orleans but I guess they wanted to go in a different direction. I am not sure what is going on with this move. Also Marcus Thornton is he hurt or something because dude can ball but is not getting much minutes. This move may wind up being pretty good because Monty Williams and Dell Demps seem to know what they are doing so far. Jack can really ball and David Anderson is a servicable big man

wuteverParticipantfrom what i heard is that the coach has issues with thornton not playing defense and fitting in with his concept so he basically put him in the dog house. cant really blame him they been winning games lol.

Scottoant93ParticipantGood trade for raptors get a pg who can score and possibly set up teammates(haven’t seen bayless since college) and hope that peja is still the 3pt threat he was years ago.As for NO i’d rather have bayless than jack and they already have jason smith and okafor at center but I guess you can never have to many bigs.

PlatypusParticipantif they wanted they could send this for Maxiell and Ben Gordon (Pistons) and then Pistons would probably accept because they’d have a point guard for next season because Stuckey will be a free agent or traded
Nohla would be
Paul – Thorton – Green
Gordon – Belinelli – Thorton – Green
Ariza – Pondexter – Alexander
West – Maxiell – Alexander
Okafor – Smith – Bonsu

Pass FirstParticipantthat the ultimate goal is to make CP want to stay there long term. With that being said this a great trade for NOH , first off CP and JJack areally close friends from what I understand and also David Anderson is a more than able backup center. THis also works out for Bayless going to a younger team that he has an oppurtunity to grow with. I love it when trades work for all teams and players involved ad this seems like a great fit for everyone except Peja whom I’m sure is hoping to be waived.
Marcus Banks averaged about 60 points in summer league about 5 yrs ago but hasnt seen the court for any extended period of time for almost his whole career. I don’t recall what he did to earn that contract but hopefully not playing hasnt stopped him from working on his game and getting ready for another chance to show his abilities.

sheltwon3ParticipantI am surprised by this trade but I can’t say that Raptor got the better deal. I just thought that New Orleans would trade Peja for more but I think Jack should help and remember Monty Williams used to work in Portland where Jack used to play. David Anderson is a very solid big man and may be an upgrade over Jason Smith who has played well. Bank I think is an Expiring contract but he can be a good scorer and has the size and physical abilities to defend if he can be motivated to do so but i doubt he plays considering there may not be enough minutes.

Hornets are bleeding money under Shinn and can’t discount motivation of several million dollars in savings on this deal.

At first glance, looks like deal saves Hornets about $5 million this year. They weren’t using Peja anyway, so win-win.

dmo21ParticipantNew Orleans trades to guys that don’t even play much for them, and only one has the potential to be a good player. In return they get Jack who has been a starter on and off for his career who can come of the bench to play both guard positions and he isnt a score first guard, so he gets his teammates involved which will help them out. Having Jack who can play lots of minutes is good for Paul cause he wont have to play as many minutes and thus has a better chance of staying healthy and being fresher at the end of the season. Andersen is a pretty good backup bigman who knows his job and doesnt try to force anything. Very good team player and a pretty decent shooter. Banks will yet again be a 3rd string point guard who rarely plays. But he will be off the books next year anyways. I would rather have Jack, Andersen, and Banks than Peja and Bayless if they wanna make a run at the playoffs this year.
Toronto is planning for the future. They needed a young point guard that has some potential to run with their high flyers in DeRozan and Weems. Bayless should finally be able to get some good minutes backing up Calderon, who has been picking up his play. Peja is just a fat contract that will be done at the end of the year. He won’t be doing much at all in Toronto, which is good for their rebuilding. I just don’t like them giving up Andersen for this year as now they do not have a backup center, other than Solomon Alabi who is raw, but has defensive potential, which they need. All in all I think it will be a good move for the Raptors too as they plan for the future and start to find an identity.
Win Win.

Snubs15ParticipantI think this trade benefits both teams. New orleans gets a good backup guard who can play shooting guard as well, and a good shooting big man. They also werent really using peja and bayless wasnt gettin enough minutes behind cp3 to grow and fill out his potential. Definitely a pretty solid trade for noh imo.
I hope this trade happens for Toronto too. They could use a solid young pg with potential.

Snubs15ParticipantI think this trade benefits both teams. New orleans gets a good backup guard who can play shooting guard as well, and a good shooting big man. llperezwhy are people acting like this is a bad trade for NO? Peja is not part of their long term plans and they have some young wings in ariza, bellineli, thornont, green, and pondexter. And jack is an upgrade over bayless. ANd they save money on top of that? SOunds solid to me.

HitsterParticipantJust tried the trade on ESPN Trade Calculator and it says Bayless cannot be traded before 23rd December 2010? can anyone shed any light on this please?
Peja has a trade kicker which Toronto want to reduce and I’d assume that the Bosh exception and the various NOH exceptions make the trade balance.
Nice deal by Del Demps to get an extra player in and save salary space, Bryan Colangelo gets a big expiring deal to maybe use again this season so a fair move for both teams.

Toronto16ParticipantTwo seperate deals. Bayless for 2.3 of the Raptors TPE.
Peja for Jack, Banks and Anderson and Peja uses hos trade kicker.

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantRaptors just got more international. Bayless should be a starter in Toronto which would be good for him since he was getting even less minutes in NO compare to Portland.

HitsterParticipantThanks for clearing that up, I just wondered how the trade machine would rate the trades win-wise and it didn’t allow it. Seperate trades obviously get around this.

TooNice4TVParticipantI think that the raptors aregetting a good deal but not "winning" the deal, potentially making an "memphis grizzlies" type of team but having to lose out on the kyrie irving pick, therefore pulling the trigger acknowledging they would be in the 5-10 round choosing a possible wing in the draft. So they aquire a former lottery pick pg, bayless, and then end up possibly choosing the 7th pick let’s just say terrence jones. They would have a starting 5 like this next year:
pg – jerryd bayless
sg – demar derozan
sf – terrence jones
pf – ed davis
c – andrea bargnaniThat looks like a solid 5 to build from ongoing into the future.
The New Orleans Hornets got a good deal as well. With their hot start, monty williams’ hornets are confident they are among the league elite once again. The GM is pulling the trigger sending their athletic pg bayless for the raptors good floor and veteran general jarrett jack. When Chris Paul comes off, they could have another smart PG to put up around 10-20 min for paul, and monty williams knows that he has nothing to risk in other team runs if paul goes off. They get david anderson, he is definitely an defensive upgrade over jason smith. anderson loves to bang in the paint and has 3 point range as well. he will be a good sub for okafor for sure. it also gives the hornets a versatile line up as well.
Paul/Jack
Belinelli/Thornton
Ariza/Ponexter
West/Smith
Okafor/Anderson.Solid rotation with veteran leadership at the point 48min a night leading them to the postseason this year.
It’s a win win for both teams.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantWhy havent some of you guys got it YET? Bayless IS NOT A POINT GUARD…
Thats why Portland got rid of him..Thats why New Orleans is letting him go after only a few weeks..The Hornets thought they were getting a backup for CP3 when they traded for Bayless..But they found out he had no playmaking skills…
In Portland the rumors had it that he didnt get him teammates involved in the offense..And he had trouble staying in front of people…

AlexBoiiParticipantI completely agree with Pass First’s statement. New Orleans’ front office has stressed this year that money was not going to be an issue in any attempt to be proactive to help build a contender. Certainly, this thinking revolves around just to keep Chris Paul happy. But here, New Orleans saves some money this season while grabbing one of Chris Paul’s old AAU/ACC buddies back in their younger days. And from a basketball standpoint, Jarret Jack is a big PG and complements the small SG in Willie Green well in the backcourt.
Funny how everyone thought Portland had a major steal when they acquired Jerryd Bayless in the 1st Bayless/Jack swap. Now it’s a fairly even deal, depending how you view the trade.
The only thing that dissapoints me is Stojakovic’s contract no longer available. I was hoping the Sixers could acquire it in an Iguodala trade to get some cap relief, and pick up some of their youngers in Marcus Thronton & Quincy Pondexter. Oh well.

IndianaBasketballParticipantComing out of high school and Arizona, I never would’ve thought Jerryd Bayless would be traded twice during the first three years of his NBA career. I once had him in the same group as Rose, Mayo and Gordon… Thought OKC was crazy for not taking him over Westbrook.
It’s about time for both Jerryd Bayless AND Anthony Randolph (lottery picks in 2008) to start living up to their potential. Other than Joe Alexander, Bayless and Randolph have been the two most disappointing lottery picks of 2008.

OhCanada-ParticipantTo be honest this is another looks good on paper trade for both sides, when in reality this trade is more about money and role oppurtunitys. I will be very upset if Toronto does not try to move Linas Kleiza or Peja Stojakovic immediatly because both players are capable of being effective starters, both players essentially provide the same skills, and Pejas minutes eat into Derozan and Weems’s progressing rolse. Derozan has been averaging about 32-mpg and Weems around 26-mpg and both are taking tremendous strides this year individually especially Weems. They maybe trying to cut down Sonny’s minutes so they dont have to dish out a crazy contract (they gave Amir Johnson 5 Mil so at this rate Weems would be compared at about 7 mil which is far to much).
David Anderson has proved to be a valuable asset with his limited time in Toronto but especially with Davis on the verge of returning and Alabi in the line to progress Andersons value could be used in different ways, such as a trade to acquire cap relief for the future and a nice young player. Removing him from the rotation gives Davis, Dorsey, and Johnson more oppurtunity to prove their longterm value, also expect Evans to be traded possibly with Klieza/Barbosa soon or for his role to decrease drastically as he nost likely will not be on this team past this year. Davis is going to get MINUTES.
Trading Jack as apposed to Calderon leaves a sour taste in the mouth of many other Raptor fans but is a very intelligent move. In reallity they both have to go, and Calderons stock is too low for him to be moved. BC is most likely going to overload Calderons minutes and try to move him by the deadline to the highest (and cheapest) bidder. If Calderon fails Bayless is going to be there to pickup the pieces, and the team will rely and focus on developing him more. If Toronto can somehow manage to make a similar trade with Calderon as the focus as appose to Jack all Raptor fans should be very happy with the cleanup job BC did and not take it for granted, so far he has done a way better job cleaning up his own mess then, Philly, Charlotte, and many other teams have in the past.
Bayless is an exciting young gaurd who I have HIGH hopes for, but I really dont think he provides the right punch for this team. He is a scoring PG who thrives off penetration from what I know, and what Toronto needs is less scoring and more team minded, chemistry type guys. Bayless has played his entire NBA career in very strong defensive minded organizations which is quite exciting to finally possibly hjave some gaurd pentration nuetrelized to an extent, but Toronto needs a PG who is more of a creator and fastbreak engager. Calderon is too passive IMO, Bayless has too much of a scorers mentality IMO. Hoping he proves me wrong.
