kerrstParticipantReports have surfaced that the Hornets offered Lance Stephenson and Cody Zeller for Brook Lopez a few weeks ago. Given Lopez’s injury history and the mess of the Nets at the time, should the have taken it? The Nets have managed to right the ship and seem headed for the playoffs as they should be able to pass the crumbling Heat. But in hindsight isn’t Lance and Zeller a good haul for the future while keeping them in contention in the East? It would give them a starting 5 of Plumlee, Johnson, Zeller, Stephenson and Jack/D-Will.

Lotto StudParticipantClutch off the strength of Zeller being linked to fill the hole in frontcourt depth.

TimberTrollParticipantI think the deadline is the 19th, so I imagine the Nets will just wait until the deadline to get the best offer. Denver reportedly offered Chandler and McGee already also. Both of those offers could be made better by adding in draft picks.

kerrstParticipantWhich deal you taking though…..Zeller and Lance or Chandler and Mcgee for Lopez? Both include a guy with a rep as a bonehead. But based off talent alone I would rather have Born Ready and Cody over Javale and Chandler. I have always liked Wilson Chandler but Lance could be a huge addition going back home to Brooklyn and Zeller has yet to reach his potential.

prophetmeirParticipantThat charlotte trade is not too bad honestly, zeller has done a great job with AL in spacing the floor . So him and plumlee could work together, also lance would be a primary ball handler for NY as well which would help his game alot more.

juves4783Participantbrook lopez and al jefferson would be quite the low post force on offense.
i’d take the charlotte deal over the nuggs one. zeller and stephenson fill holes at pf and sg and are a few years younger.

username_takenParticipantHe seems like a nice young prospect, and I really don’t see what Lopez brings that Jefferson doesn’t.

nzsiderParticipantLopez does seem a weird player to pick up though. Are you sure it wasn’t Joe Johnson?
I know they have had some decent offers for Johnson as well and he is a player who can give you points in the playoffs. I think Charlotte were after him. Wouldn’t surprise me if they had offered Lance and Zeller for Johnson.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI don’t understand why Charlotte would want Lopez when they already have Jefferson. Seems like that would just further clog the paint. I guess Lopez could play more in the high post, but he’s definitely most effective on the block. Both have slow feet and neither is really much of a rim protector. Doesn’t make much sense to give up on young player like Zeller so quick.
I’m surprised the nets didn’t jump on thisdeal given how bad they want to cut salary but I guess they think they could do better. Stephenson playing in Brooklyn has the potential to be problematic too.

Too FastParticipantNets need to just trade all three of there guys (Lopez, Williams, Johnson) and get picks. All to playoff teams for there 1st rounders. I know it might be hard with some of the contracts though…..
But seriosly that franchise is gonna be bad for atleast 10 years.

Mr. HookShotParticipantNobody, and I mean nobody, will pick up Williams’ contract; he is just a washed up, always-injured player who lost his game. He is shooting under 40% from the field this season, is not a good 3pt shooter and basically doesn’t bring you anything more than someone like Mo Williams (who has actually better stats than Deron). Deron Williams earns more than $20 million to be nothing more than an inefficient bench player.
Regarding the other two players; Johnson still has some value as a big guard, who can post up and punish little guards in the paint. Given his massive pay-check I wonder who is actually willing to take him off the Nets’ hands, let alone give them a pick or some quality players in return. Lopez still has the ‘highest’ upside, but he has shown a fragile body, who does bring a nice offensive game but still lacks the tenacity necessary to succeed as a defensive big man. If those three players he would be the easiest to trade away and get something in return from a team in search for an offensive big man (OKC anyone?).
