Has Fantasy Basketball tainted peoples opinion on what a GREAT player is?? over the past few weeks it is becoming clear to me that many ppl have started to throw around the words “superstar” or “franchise player” as if they are a dime a dozen and the justification always seems to be the same each time ” HAVE U SEEN THE NUMBERS HE PUT UP” when did leading ur team to wins become secondary to ” just the numbers”

and for everyone reading this post the truth is there is only a few “superstars” or “franchise players” in the league today…. k. bryant, l. james, d. wade, d. howard, c. paul, t. duncan and k. garnett

As of right now, T-Duncan and KG are not Franchise Players due to age.

Also, you forget, THE NBA HAS BECOME A 2-3 PLAYER Build. You need 2 good players to win.

Most people on here do. I dont even pay attention to fantasy sports or stats like that. When I decide who is a better player I go by their in game playing ability, I never bring up stats.

    that makes no sense.

If you go by game playing ability, that means you must know how every player in the league plays. Stats does help. It does not make you a fantasy guy, it shows who’s does this and who excels at that.

I do know how every player in the league plays, I wouldnt make a stupid decision about players based on their stats. The only players stats I keep up with is Andre Iguodala. It doesnt take looking at stats to know how good a player is.

Dang Igoudala you know how upwards of 300 NBA players play? That is pretty impressive.

Well then that cuts that list of over 300 down quite a bit.

when guys like Kevin Martin and Ben Gordon are fantasy stars they are by no means real stars, nate robinson averages around 20ppg doesnt mean he’s an all-star, on the flip side no fantasy player would draft Shane Battier or Ron Artest high or guys like Bruce Bowen, Dahntey Jones, Robert Horry(now retired) and the Birdman wont be drafted at all

Fantasy Basketball has had a huge impact on the way fantasy players view NBA players. I am somewhat guilty as I’ve played fantasy Bb for 20 years, and when I hear a player’s name, at time I think of his fantasy value as opposed to real team value. However, I think if anything, it has less impact at how the true stars are viewed. Real stars will generally put up very good numbers. It’s mostly the players like Bruce Bowen who have value to their real teams by playing great defense or other such qualities. Bowen has little or no fantasy value, but isn’t a star player.

billyk i dont think it can be said any better…. BIG STATS = BIG CONTRACT which often leads to BIG MISTAKES!!

just take alook at a guy like s. marbury at his best nothing more than stats that lead to very few W’s… but considered a start player but eventually ppl started to see the truth.. again another eg. m. redd great shooter and able to put on good numbers but the bucks will never be any good with m. redd there go to guy.

    other noteables/ future mistakes:

    s. marion… good role player but was making 17 mill last season
    a. kirlenko .. wow is all i can stay!!

    d. lee… who is going to be the sucker that overpays for him?? s. marion version 2.0
