July, 2009: Ailun Guo (Liaoning Club Team, China) is a 6-3 point guard that is a big time ball handler and passer. He is only sixteen years old and seems to have a great feel and understanding of the game. Guo is about 170 pounds and must add strength but is an excellent penetrator and can drive draw and kick with good court vision. He can get into the lane and drop off passes to post players at close range or kick out to shooters on the weak side of the floor. Has a terrific hesitation and go move off the dribble to beat defenders. Is a confident player that has swagger. Deceptive athlete with good speed and quickness. Competes, runs the team and can knock down open three’s and mid range pull ups off the glass when on the angle. Good shooting form nice release and follow through. Works hard on defense to pressure the ball and stays in front off the ball handler with active hands and distance. Has an excellent basketball IQ, makes good decisions and understands how to get teammates open shots. He seems to like to leave his feet to pass which could make him charge prone but he can hang in the air and put the ball on the money.
Ailun Guo, a 1m90 tall guard, is the nephew of the former Head coach of Team China Shiqiang Guo. Ailun is the captain of the U17 team, he’s real fast with dribble penetrations and his footwork is really incredible. He is a fast, though playing PG, but more like SG. He needs to improve on his shooting ability. Early in June, Ailun scored 34pts against an US youth team in preparation

NashyMingParticipantI think there are multiple college coaches expressed interest in Guo, but it would be a very small chance of that to happen.
Guo is currently playing for Liao Ning junior team (not even CBA). His uncle is the coach of Liao Ning CBA team and a former star player in China who played for Team China with Yao and later coached Team China for a short time. It is very likely that Guo would be playing for Liao Ning CBA team eventually under his uncle.
The best for Guo is probably to play in the US to go against higher competition to speed up his development, but it is very unlikely. Team China and CBA also have the tendency of holding players back in order to secure the players’ rights (so that if the player goes elsewhere, they can demand big money).
This happened to Yao and Yi and they basically gave all their first two years salary to their ex-clubs in China.

JoeWolf1He’s 170 at 16 years old, he could easily bulk up to 185-190ish by the time he would be ready to come over. I think that would help his chances of playing in the NBA greatly.

NashyMingParticipantGuo Ailun is the PG of the future for team China.
I have a lot of hope on him as PG has been the biggest weakness on team China for a long long time.
Liu Wei just won’t cut it. He’s not good enough to play against even marginal competitions.
In the past, China usually lost due to extremely poor guard plays. Liu Wei even has a hard time to safely dribble the ball pass the half-court line. He cannot get the ball to Yao or Yi in the post, so Team China could not take advantage of its size.
If Guo Ailun can develop into a solid PG, then Team China would be able to put up a fight against some of the top teams.
