And really, he or Thibs should win it every year. They are clearly the best coaches who do the most with the talent givin. And this year, I’m a Suns fan, but both probably deserve it over Hornacek who has done a great job. Popovich offense is amazing, here is a video I made as an example of why the Spura offense is so good.

Yeah Pop is almost a victim of his own success. I am not for certain but he only has one COTY? I believe Phil Jackson only ended with one as well.  People typically vote for the new guy…. Not the consistently great gut.  Its a product of our short minded society these days more than it is anything Pop has done.  Pop is also frustrating for the media which probably rubs them the wrong way even though I personally love the way he out wits their stupid questions consitently.  He just gets the bigger picture and understands what really matters is the basketball and not the parade/circus the media would prefer to turn it in to.

I think much like the player awards if they players and coaches voted their would be consistently different outcomes in the award races.

As you said, Pop could win the coach of the yea revery season.  The guy is an absolute genius.  I think he’s top 5 in the greatest coaches of all-time right now.

    This.

The two of them do the best job every year, but because their teams are always good, a coach who coached a team that was bad the year before tends to steal it from one of them.

Great video! Excellent job with the scouting report. Goes to show how much discipline and structure there is in San Antonio.

The COY award is recently more of "Most Improved Team" award  so that will make it tough for Popovich to win

I don’t like it this way and  If it was a real ranking for the coaches he would win it easily

I like what you did there. It looks in the same format as BBall Breakdown, which is very interesting to watch. Great video!

I really think that either Popovich or Hornachek deserve the COTY award for opposite reasons. Popovich deserves it due to the consistency and ability to transform his team over time. Hornachek deserves it because he took one of the worst teams in the league and made them in to a team that not even the top tier teams would want to face on any given night. As a Suns fan I will be extremely frustrated to see Phoenix miss the playoffs while my hometown team the New York Knicks make it with about ten less wins.

Hornacek or Thibs has to win in this year.. trust me I understand that Popovich is doing marvelous things with that Spurs team, but Hornacek turned a bunch of misfits into a playoff team and Thibs is turning dog crap into lemonade every year.. If im voting it has to go to one of those guys.

I’m not sure if Thibs deserves Coach of the Year, the dude runs his starters into the ground to win regular season games and is always carrying injuries into the post-season.

Not saying he doesn’t have excellent coaching skills, but he needs to get better at seeing the bigger picture, develop his young guys a bit more and keep his team healthy for the post-season.

The fact that Popovich manages to keep his key guys rested and get the most out of his bench, and end up with the best record in the NBA is what makes him an amazing coach and a deserving CotY winner.

That said, I’m not sure if he’ll get it this year, Hornacek and even Steve Clifford have a pretty good shot at it given what they’ve done with their rosters.

Joakim Noah is having a career year, Jimmy Butler is having a career year, Dj Augustin is having a career year and Taj Gibson is having a career year..  So explain to me how this guy is not developing his  under 30 talent when pretty much all of them are having career years..

Luol Deng is injury prone and Derrick Rose obviously has been since High School. but Right now the Bulls dont have a guy on the roster that is playing over 34.1 minutes a game, actually Thibs has done a great job this year managing minutes of his players.. you are speaking of last year when the team had no bench and Thibs had no choice but to ride the back of guys with heavy minutes back when they had an 8 guy rotation..

      Jimmy Butler 38mpg.

I had a bigger response but it triggered some spam filters, and I lost it.
