mgreener_34ParticipantSo I’ve seen a lot of people talking about this GS team, and how they won’t be considered one of the greatest teams of all time because of the two losses to CLE (assuming they even win it all). Personally, I disagree with this statement, but think it’s worth talking about, and would like to hear what the forum has to say on this matter, and about the other teams that are considered all-time greats. Here are the top teams that I’ve ever seen.
2013-14 San Antonio Spurs
Record: 65-17
Off: 7th
Def: 3rd
Key Players: Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker, Kawhii Leonard, Borris Diaw
Why?: Proved that a 3pnt shooting team can win, and that HEART means more than anything in sports. Went to 2 consecuative finals with this group.
2012-13 Miami Heat
Record: 66-16
Off: 2nd
Def: 9th
Key Players: LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, Ray Allen, Shane Battier
Why?: Put a stamp on small-ball lineups for the forseeable future, and solidified Super-teams and unselfishness in your stars. Went to 4 strait finals with this team
2008-09 Los Angelos Lakers
Record: 65-17
Off: 3rd
Def: 6th
Key Players: Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum, Lamar Odem, Trevor Ariza, Derek Fisher
Why?: Size matters, and the Lakers versatility let them dominate and match up with most of their opponents. Went to 3 strait finals. Once Shaq started to fall off, people questioned if Centers were really the key. This team proved Center is important, and changed the landscape of the NBA with teams like the Thunder/Mavs/Grizz all going big to match them in the PO
2007-08 Boston Celtics
Record: 66-16
Off: 10th
Def: 1st
Key Players: Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Rajon Rondo, James Posey, Tony Allen
Why?: Revolutionize modern NBA defenses with Thibs overloading D. Started the Big Three craze, and capped the careers of 3 HoF players. Went to 2 out of 3 finals with this team. The storyline for this team was just too good even if they only won once.
2003-04 Detroit Pistons
Record: 54-18
Off: 18th
Def: 2nd
Key Players: Chauncy Billups, Rip Hamilton, Ben Wallace, Rasheed Wallace, Prince, Linsey Hunter, Mehmet Okur
Why?: Went to 5 strait ECF, two finals, and epitomized grindhouse basketball with a cast of NBA misfits. Between this team and the Spurs, the NBA changed how it was played, and sped up the pace. No more 70 point games
2000-01 Los Angelos Lakers
Record: 56-26
Off: 2nd
Def: 21st
Key Players: Shaq, Kobe Bryant, Derek Fisher, Horace Grant, Robert Hory, Rich Fox
Why?: Dominant in the playoffs, dynasty with 3 in a row, and went to 4 out of 5. Best inside out duo of recent memory. Changed the NBA as teams had to have scrubs like Scott Pollard on it just to throw at Shaq
1995-96 Chicaco Bulls
Record: 72-10
Off: 1st
Def: 1st
Key Players: Michael Jordan, Scotty Pippen, Dennis Rodman, Toni Kukoc, Steve Kerr
Why?: No need to even explain. The Jordan teams of the 90’s just owned the league. 1st in both O and D, and that team just had swag winning 6 out of 8, two seperate dynasties.
1988-89 Detroit Pistons
Record: 63-19
Off: 7th
Def: 3rd
Key Players: Isaiah Thomas, Dennis Rodman, Joe Dumars, Bill Laimbeer, Aidran Dantley
Why?: Two in a row, and the "Bad Boys" mantra still runs strong in DET today. Epitomize hard nosed D and physicallity
1986-87 Los Angelos Lakers
Record: 65-17
Off: 1st
Def: 7th
Key Players: Magic Johnson, Kareem, James Worthy, Byron Scott, AC Green, Mike Cooper, Kurt Rambis
Why?: Dynasty with arguably two 3 of the greatest players of all time at their position. "Show-time" Lakers ran through the West, and played big when it mattered.
1985-86 Boston Celtics
Record: 67-15
Off: 3rd
Def: 1st
Key Players: Larry Bird, Robert Parish, Kevin McHale, Dennis Johnson, Bill Walton, Danny Ainge
Why?: So much talent on one roster. Could kill you inside and out, and had the D to match.
1982-83 Philidelphia 76’ers
Record: 65-17
Off: 5th
Def: 5th
Key Players: Julius Erving, Moses Malone, Mo Cheeks, Andrew Tony
Teams worth Mentioning that didn’t win it all:
1996 Seattle Supersonics
1993 Pheonix Suns
2004-2007 Pheonix Suns
2002 Sacromento Kings
1998 Utah Jazz
2004 Indianna Pacers
2009 Cleveland Cavs
1999 Portland Trailblazers

Bed HeadParticipantIf you look at those teams you mentioned, the thing they all have in common* is at least one historically "great" player. So, while it might not be fair, the ’15 Warriors’ legacy will likely be determined by what Curry (and to a lesser degree) Thompson accomplish the rest of their careers.
* Other than the ’04 Pistons (who I’m not sure most people would consider a "legendary" team)

Dgtool2ParticipantWhat makes those teams so good though is that they established themselves as a championship contenders for more than one season. Let’s wait on the greastest teams list until the Warriors win the title this year and do it for more than one season.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI believe the spurs record in 2014 was 62-20, not 65-17.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantThe 90-91 bulls should also be included I think. That team absolutely tore up the playoffs going 15-2 and set the stage for the dynasty that followed.
The 96-97 bulls team won 69 games as well and were pretty much just as dominant as the 96 team that won 72 games.

TarHeelRavenParticipant95-96 Bulls all day. NBA record 72 wins. Just the fact that Jordan came back from 2 years COMPLETELY from basketball and led the Bulls to 72 wins is ridiculous. Beat Gary Payton and the Reign Man in the NBA finals in 6. That Sonics team was really good. There have been many really good teams in the past couple decades, but I don’t think any has surpassed the 95-96 Bulls yet.

llperezHe didn’t come back completely from basketball. He played about 30 nba games the year prior and spent all off season working on his game.

HitsterParticipantThe Red Auerbach Boston Celtics have to be in there somewhere but they played in a different era.

omphalosParticipantI wouldn’t put the Miami team that beat the Spurs in there.
They were really close to losing it all, the best team was the 2012 champ team in the Lebron Heat era.

ExumInfernoParticipantFor the 1988-89 Pistons, change Dantley out for Mark Aguirre. They made a big trade that season, as Dantley wasn’t playing a team game. So they won with Aguirre starting that season, and with him off the bench the next. Also maybe add Vinnie Johnson, he hit a lot of game-winning shots and gave Detroit and great three guard rotation as Dumars could pass at the point when Thomas was having a rest.
I am guessing those Pistons would have played the current Warriors differently than the Cavs. No small ball, Rodman everywhere, fouls all the time, if people are saying Dellavedova is outside the rules, what would there be with Mahorn and Laimbeer and the Pistons doing their stuff.

Interesting numbers in the link. Technically the Bulls followed by the Ws are the two best ever.
