So you may be familiar with my earlier posts about the sad-but-not-so-sad-anymore-because-we’re-pretty-good-friends-and-I’m-ok-with-that relationship between me and Andrea from Journalism Camp. And I promised I would never fall for a girl that I may never see again…
…But then I did it again today

    When: This morning
Where: At the Student Council workshop my school was hosting
Who: I won’t use real names this time. Let’s call her, “Rachel”

So I was a part of the delegation that my school sent to its own workshop today. At this workshop, student councils come from other area schools to learn about leadership and to connect with each other. I signed up to come at the last minute because I had never been to a STUGO workshop (and I got to miss Calculus). A short time into it, all the delegates from the different schools were divided up into smaller groups for the team building activites we would be doing that morning. And that was when I met Rachel.

She was from the rural hick school to the south of ours, and her friend (you people would probably call her friend “hot”) from the same school was also in our group. Now, I instantly noticed that she was a cute little person and when this is coupled with the fact that she laughed at, like, 3 of the first 5 things I said, I was hooked. Over the course of the morning, we said a few words to each other but that was enough. She was feelin it. Maybe not. But I was excited nonethless. THis girl seemed pretty cool. And when I was eliminated from a game we were playing, she congratulated me. And used MY NAME. SNAP!

We were divided into mandatory groups for our lunch seating. I and my love were seperated. And I learned that we would not be getting back into our original groups for the afternoon. As I was casually eyeing Rachel from across the room during a later activity, her advisors suddenly announced that it was time to leave. And just like that, without acknowleding me, my lady left.

Tonight, I sacked up. I Facebook friended her. I stalked her on FB like a boss and, lo and behold! She was a junior (I was worried I was crushing on a freshman) and a hard-core Jesus lover! Check and check! She accepted and, contented, I logged off and settled in to watch iowa state thrash Notre Dame, just as I had foreseen. But I felt empty, like I hadn’t tried hard enough. So I logged back on, told my best mate, “I’m messaging her. Balls out.” and told her how I was glad she was a christian and that it was nice meeting her. i went to take a crap and when I got back…

…she had responded. And I responded back. And she responded back. This went on for a while until at one point, she mentioned her boyfriend. Turns out, she was dating this really nice guy who was a freshman in college who went to my school. And I couldn’t fault her. From what I knew of him, he is an awesome dude. A little much on the Hipster side, but whatevs. Not to be deterred however, i continued to cement a future opportunity to message her and solidify the relationship. Eventually, I decided to not push my luck and with a complimentary word, I said good night and logged off. And she responded with an equally nice, um, response, and there you have it.

Tell me, older, wiser gentlemen, WHYYYY do I do this to myself?

message her again….go with ur gut and cement that relationship with her…..stick around, chances are her relationship with her boyfriend wont last…….it could be bad she brought him up during ur conversation especially if she did it without you doing something to cue it…..because that could mean she’s just not into you and you don’t have a chance either way…..but stick around they’ll break up and if you have a feeling she’s feeling you at all you’ll have a chance to step in….ask her about herself and pretend like you’re interested in what she has to say….don’t be thirsty just be a friend while she’s in her relationship…and in the meantime try your luck elsewhere they’re PLENTY OF GIRLS out there…no need to stress over one.

Well that’s an interesting ethic dilemma I have myself as well. If you “steal” the girl… there’s a chance she could be emotionally unstable and get stolen when she’s with you. But… when you invest some time on the woman, you usually don’t want to back off.

” I stalked her on FaceBook like a boss” has to be one of the best lines I read in a while.

Fortunately, Andrea’s other friends (who I will refer to as her “Martinsville friends”, since they are from Martinsville, Indiana, which is the biggest hicktown in the state)

Haha that is a pretty accurate description of Martinsville.
