What is the deal with everybody giving up on Favors and saying he’s not going to amount to his hype.  The dude is 19 years old, is playing in the best league in the world, has an NBA body already, and is averaging 6pts and 5rebs.  How is he not doing well?  He’s only 19 years of age!

He’s the youngest rookie ever to average 6pts and 5rebs while playing less than 20 minutes a game and shooting over 50% from the field.

I don’t know exactly what people were expecting from him but I don’t think he could have done any better considering the situations he was put in.  He played in New Jersey where Brook Lopez is an established offensive center and Kris Humphries was playing out of his mind.  Then was traded to Utah where he, again, was playing behind an established top big man in the league and Paul Millsap, a Utah Jazz favorite for years now.

People were expecting him to average 15pts and 10 rebounds and didn’t want anything less but he’s only 19 years of age!  And now that he didn’t get those 10pts and 10 rebs, people are saying that he’s completely tradeable and is nothing more than a "potential" player.  He’s no Dwight Howard or KG but he’s a pretty good player all his own.

The dude showed he can definetly play.

Favors needs a little time.  In 3 years, he’ll be one of the better power forwards.  definitely a starter.  This is only going to be his second year.   He has perfect size and his Hops are off the chart.  He has the reach to block any shot and like you said, hes only 19 years  old.  If he speeds up his development next year then he would pair nicely with Jefferson who has no hops.

    I like it, trust me

Favors is going to be alright! the guy look good late in the season…i rember how good he played aginst my Lakers….

    Best: Antonio McDyess

    Worst: Tyrus Thomas

It takes time Utah has to be patient with him hes only like 19-20 years old.

I think ultimately Favors may wind up a Center.  People saying all this stuff forget how long it took Byum to produce and Favors is more athletic than Bynum.   A legit big man is hard to find and Favors could have been the number one pick this year if he would have stayed another season and showed at least what he did his freshmen year.

Favors is extremely talented, possesses the motivation to succeed, and has a great attitude. In 3 years or so this kid will be lighting up the box score. He can block shots, run the floor, and has a developing post game. Also, he’s a great rebounder on both ends of the floor. This kid will be something special, and hopefully the Jazz keep him around to be a part of their core.

Dude, Stromile Swift was 220 lbs as a vet, Favors is 246 all muscle at at age 19. His frame is identical to Dwight Howard at the same age…..

There is no way he is stromile swift, his offensive game needs allot of polish, however once he came to utah he showed allot of potential post moves, with a quick first step to get to the cup. Not to mention once he came over he was easily the best defensive player on the Jazz Squad, who showed allot of potential with not only being a great shot blocker, but was also able to stay in front of allot of wings coming off picks due to bells and harris’s terrible defense.

Swift was a great defender and had shown some nice potiental to be an offensive player… He never did though…

Look, when this bites me in the A$$, I will eat crow all day.  However, yall have nothing to say he wont be Swift but a few personal opinions.. So its my opinion vs your opinion results in a stale mate…  Show me proof and I will admit that I was way off but until then, respectfully disagree…

I respect your opinion on him and it’s true, we don’t have proof to say that he’s NOT going to be like Swift.  The best I could say is this:

His defense at 19 is better than Swift’s at 21.  (Their rookie years)

Another thing I could say is Derrick Favor’s stats in Utah were about 8-5 a game (at age 19).  Stromile Swifts career stats were 8-4 (9 seasons).  Basically, Favors would need to not improve at all for the rest of his career to have a career like Swifts, which is a stretch because of the fact that he’s only 19.

I don’t think anyone who knows anything about the Jazz would be saying that Favors could possibly be available in a trade. He is probably the only player on the team that is untouchable. Like KOC said , you don’t get the kind of athletic big man Favors is to come around very often, let a lone, have him be on your team. Favors isn’t going anywhere, he is the center of the core players the Jazz will build around.

Right but there was a year or 2 where Swift was scoring around 12 points and grabbing close to 8 rebounds.. that is double-double every night.. Personaly, I want Favors to succeed but I dont think he will be the player that everyone says.. He isnt Dwight Howard or Karl Malone… He is, and until he proves otherwise, Stromile Swift.  Atheletic, Strong, Fast, Verticle, and inconsistant…

Swift made a career on "potiental."

I don’t think Favors will be an elite offensive player, he is a bit too robotic, but he shot 51% in his rookie year compared to 45% for Swift’s rookie year. That’s a rather huge effeciency gap. I don’t think you know how strong Favors is or will be. He can simply overpower people in the lane, something Swift just could not do.

Honestly we are seeing how the right organization really does matter for a players development and success. New Jersey put way to much pressure on Derrick. They were expecting him to be a instant double double, and al through articles and everything all I saw was how upset they were with his play, sort of like they had to blame someone for the horrible season while not blaming Lopez because that was their only guy to sell the fans on. With Utah we saw a full 360. There maybe no better place in the NBA for Derrick to be able to develop. If anyone is good and patient with developing bigs its Utah, especially PF’s. Hell be a stud.

First of all, Derrick Favors is a center, not a PF, the size is too valuable and there are PF who became centers because of the lack of big men. In my opinion, Derrick Favors can be compared to Dwight Howard. Look at the stats of the two guys in their rookie season:

    Dwight Howard: 32 minutes, 12pts, 10rbs, 1.7blk

    Derrick Favors: 20 minutes, 6.3pts, 5.3rbs, 0.7blk

Now, if we translate Derrick Favors’ stats on 32 minutes (Dwight Howard’s playing time during his rookie season), we have 10pts, 8.5rbs, 1,1blk. Dwight Howard’s stats were clearly above but Derrick stands the comparison. So now, it will be difficult, alomost impossible to follow Dwight’s progression but having a poor version of Dwight Howard would be a great thing for any team. On another side, Derrick’s stats were similar to Tyson Chandler’s stats during his rookie season. Chandler was kind of a bust in comparison to the hype around him, he reached his limit very fast but today, he is the best center of the Finals. In other words, Utah would be insane to trade such a player unless the return is mindblasting.

If I could give you a plus 100 for that comment I would.  He is a different player playing for Utah than he was playing for New Jersey.

At topic chooser who has given up on Favors?  not the jazz organization and not jazz fans. all the trade rumors you see involving favors are by people that want him and dont have him. some of his best games were against better teams in the nba.  I can think of games against the spurs and new york where he showed some serious flashes of his "potential" and what he can become.  Count me as someone who hasn’t given up  on Favors.

Who in the hell said we were giving up on Favors!  He was the main reason i kept watching all the jazz games towards the end of the year.  With all the aging power forwards in the west he may be an allstar faster than we all think.

I’ve seen in several replies and different threads of people saying he’s tradeable because he didn’t live up to the hype, not just yours.

all the posts you have seen are from people who want him on their favorite team. Like you said the dude is 19 give him time.  also jazz didn’t trade DWILL for Devin Harris that would have been the dumbest trade  ever.  No way the jazz would do that trade if Favors wasn’t involved.  So maybe NJ only saw him as trade bait but i think Utahs front office knows how good he can be.  Now the jazz just need a good big man coach (Karl Malone?) to bring out all of his  potential.
