One of the best things about sports is how unpredictable they can be and how history does not affect what is in the now.  I know no one cares about baseball, but the Royals, the Cubs, the Mets, and the Blue Jays are all in contention for being World Champs…wtf

So, I want to here what yall’s biggest suprises/predictions/thoughts on the West.  My bold predictions are below, let me know what you think –

    1) The Sacramento Kings will make it in the playoffs and nab the 5th seed in the playoffs.  Sac-Town is the best soap opera in the NBA.  Rajon Rondo is on pace for a comeback season, George Karl openly admitted he tried to trade DeMarcus Cousins, WCS or "Trill" will fight for minutes, former Kings Peja and Vlade Divac are in leadership positions, and Belinelli has had the best summer he could have had, possibly weaving his way into the starting lineup.

All that is a mix for one of two things: 1. A year full of drama that the Kings do not need, ending up with one of the worst records in the league 2. A year full of comeback stories, realizing potential, and giving back to Sac-Town fans by competing in the playoffs.  The second option isn’t as unrealistic as you may think.  Only teams I know that are definitively better than the Kings are the Rockets, Thunder, Spurs, and Warriors.  The West is as wide open in spots 5-8 than ever.

    2) Damian Lillard will be in the TOP 5 for MVP this year.  Dame is primed for quite the season. With LaMarcus Aldridge, Wes Matthews, and Nico Batum gone, Lillard is going to have to play like an MVP to get the Trailblazers anywhere close to the playoffs.  But with a great crowd like Portland, anything could happen with a young, athletic team with a leader like Lillard.  Lillard has excellent leadership qualties and the evidence is in his career – Rookie of the year, multiple all-star appearances, three point assassin, CLUTCH guy of 2015, and he even got Weber State in the national spotlight back in college.  Don’t be surpised to see Lillard sneak his team into an 8th seed and him average 28 PPG, 5 RPG, and 8 APG.  He definitely has the ability to do it.

but I like the bold prediction that they’ll be the 7th seed. It reminds me of last year when Atlanta had all those distractions with management, and most experts didn’t even have them making the playoffs. Maybe the negative attention can be used to build something positive. If things go well for them I could see them finishing ahead of New Orleans, Dallas, Phoenix, Utah, and the rest.

Hmmm I’m going to try to give one statement(maybe bold, maybe not) per team in the west.

Warriors – They hit a wall, have a 5-10 game losing streak.

Thunder – Go on an insane winning streak, talking 20+

Spurs – Tony Parker is close to being finished. Unless they have another PG who comes fills in the hole, this is what holds the team back from getting out of the west.

Clippers – Team is in deep turmoil. Josh Smith and Lance both get traded for virtually nothing, recover a little bit from the damages, but not enough to make them a legit contender.

    Grizzles – Barnes gets traded.

Pelicans – Davis goes on a tear, goes 15+ straight games with scoring at least 30 points and getting at least 10 rebounds.

    Suns – They trade Bledsoe.

Blazers – Lillard averages 29+ ppg.

Lakers – Russell starts the first 20-40 games slow, finishes the season going on a tear and making all rookie first team.

Nuggets – Mudiay wins Rookie of the year.

    Kings – Karl gets fired.

Mavs – One of the worst teams in the nba.

Rockets – Harden holds the biggest scoring output in a game for the season.

    Timberwolves – Muhammed gets traded.

Jazz – PG play will slow this team down from developing.

Patty Mills to San Antonios leading scorer.

As deadly as Steph Curry when he’s healthy. Probably 18ppg and All Star consideration.

Memphis concedes that their style isn’t going to work long-term and moves one of their core pieces (Conley, Z-Bo or TA)

After 9 straight losing seasons they deserve a winner but here’s what worries me… It appears the Owner is dictating to GM & that is a bad sign… Sacramento has a new stadium opening in 2016 & the owner May have mandated Divac to make the playoffs at All costs… The problem w/ that is trying to build something quickly rarely goes well in life… The teams that build long term winners build through the Draft…

We all keep speculating whether the Kings will make the playoffs or not This year – OK let’s say Everything works & the Kings make the Playoffs in the spring of 2016 – what next??? Do they have a team that can do anything in the playoffs? What happens over the next few years?

The trade they made w/ Phila was absurd IMO, they give away Stauskus (their #8 overall Lottery pick), swap rights for 2016 & 2017 AND their 2018 First round Draft pick & in return Phila takes two journeymen w/ overinflated coontracts just so they have cap space to sign a few other journeymen players??? Belleneli played for 5 teams in 4 years & shot about 41% for those teams before going to San Antonio – he’s basically an older version of Stauskus… Rondo has really struggled as the League has evolved the last few years…

In short, the potential reward doesn’t justify the rsk involved… Just my opinion, but I think Sacramento would have been better off trading Boogie for the Lakers #2 pick… Keep Stauskus, draft Okafor w/ that #2 pick, then w/ their own #6 pick, take WCS to protect the Rim… You have cap space b/c you traded Cousins so you can still sign Rondo & some other Vets, I realize you aren’t making the playoffs w/o the veteran Cousins, but now you have a very formidable young nucleus to build around…

OKC, Spurs, Dubs, Griz, Rockets, NOLA, Clippers, and the Jazz

OKC has alot to prove and they will play hardcore all season long.

Spurs will rest their players from time to time

Dubs simply have a good team, inside and out.

Griz "D’ and tough play will carry to the 4th spot

Rockets have the talent to play in the finals, however past few years they have had alot of injuries.

NOLA got some talent and Anthony Davis too claim the 5th spot

Clippers, have Paul and Griffith, however I’m not sold on Pierce (old bones), Stephenson(clown) to provide them with enough to over-take the OKC/Spurs/Dubs/Griz/Rockets.

Jazz-pretty good frontcourt and their backcourt is young, however have some talent and their bench is deep.

     Bold Predictions:

LMA and Duncan kinda get in each other’s way.  Mid-range jumpers and uncontested defensive rebounds galore!

Every team in the West wins either 53 games or 39 games.  Ok, slight exageration.

Anthony Davis will put up essentially the same stats for the third straight year and everybody will go crazy.

After a particularly long 3 point attempt Steph Curry’s arm falls off.  Ok, probably not.  I think Curry’s numbers will dip slightly but still has a shot to win back to back MVP awards.

Russell Westbrook takes the MVP trophy.  Yeah, he doesn’t actually WIN the MVP trophy but he just TAKES it.  Like, he LITERALLY takes it from a preoccupied James Harden.

Clippers fans wax poetic about the Baron Davis Alley Oop to Blake Show Days.

Lamar Odom shows up to a Lakers-Clippers game and breaks the internet.  Kobe goes for 60 in the game and rebreaks the internet.

Marc Gasol temporarily forgets that he is no longer in a contract year and starts the season off strong.

Russ Smith makes some fun plays (for both teams!).

CDR makes the Pelicans and prompts some great 2008-2009 Memphis Tigers fan fiction with Tyreke Evans.

The Lakers start the season 0-49 after their 25th consecutive loss by 5 points or less.  They then channel the 1971-1972 Lakers team with ancient Kobe turning into ancient Jerry West, Jordan Clarkson turning into Gail Goodrich, Julius Randle making diehard Laker fans forgetting about Happy Hairston, and Roy Hibbert doing his best ’72 Wilt impersonation as a rebounder, really big dude who blocks the paint (who knew really big dudes could do that?), and making around 70% of his dunks and 2 foot bank shots, and win their last 33 games bringing their record to 33 wins against 49 losses.

Rudy Gobert breaks Elmore Smith’s record of 17 blocks of a game by accidentally blocking all of Dante Exum’s ill-advised runners in the lane.

    Karl Anthony Town’s prediction time:

    Upside: Sam Perkins

    Downside: Sam Perkins

    Baseline: Sam Perkins

2015-2016 James Michael McAdoo makes people forget about late model Bob McAdoo but not about prime Buffalo Braves Bob McAdoo.

The Denver Nuggets get the first pick of the 2016 ABA Draft.

The Golden State Warriors move to Portland, Oregon after no longer being able to afford Bay Area rents.

The Portland Trailblazers upset the Portland Trailwarriors in the first round.  Half the town riots while the other half of the town riots, too.

DeMarcus Cousins averages 35, 20, 5, 3, and 3, and doesn’t make the All Star Team.  Because someone has to reward Dirk for scoring 15.5 points and hauling in 4.5 rebounds a game.

The Philadelphia 76ers move to the Western Conference after the All Star Break in order to lose enough games to take an injured center with a top 3 pick.
