European BasketballerParticipantI just want to clear this up, since some trolls here keep saying that he does not play point guard and that he plays small forward.
No. Actually, he does not play small forward, although of course he can play that position and sometimes is used that way.
But no, he does not “play as a small forward” as some trolls here claim. He plays at the POINT GUARD position on his team Filathlitikos.
So actually, no, the truth is he does not play as a small forward. I don’t know why but some trolls here started claiming he’s not a point guard and only plays at small forward, which is not true.
The truth is his team uses him as a POINT GUARD.

Leonard WashingtonParticipantAwesome..but basically nobody on this site cares, and although this prospect looks to have a decent pro career I am starting to hope he is a huge bust because you won’t get off his nuts.
By the way positions are overrated…just ask this guy from Akron, Ohio…Lebron James.

theprophetParticipantso everybody is mcdunkin and you are calling him a troll and making an entire new post about it? really? if you don’t agree with him, just brush it off. and i agree with leonard washington about positions. what’s in a position anyways? just have team chemistry on the court and who cares what position one plays?

HaleParticipantMust not be much of a PG…he averages 1.4 apg and 1.6 topg. He’s also listed as a F and Nikos Gikas is listed at PG.

European BasketballerParticipantWhy don’t you go look up and see how many assists guys like Brandon Jennings, Ricky Rubio, Goran Dragic, Ty Lawson, Jose Calderon averaged in Europe.
You might not sound like such an idiot in future posts………….
Gikas plays PG so what? He’s the starting point guard and Adetokoubo is the backup. What exactly is your point?
0- Posted on: Wed, 03/27/2013 - 3:25pm #758152

HaleParticipantMy point is he is listed as a forward by the team and averages more turnovers then assists (so if he was a PG, he sucks at it). So you’re wrong. It’s as simple as that, ignorant racist.
0- Posted on: Thu, 03/28/2013 - 2:17am #758281
European BasketballerParticipantHe is not playing forward you freaking moron. Go look up the assists averages of those players in Europe.
Rest assured it will be posted here soon enough to expose what an idiot you are.
And he’s listed as a PG idiot.
Position: PG
You are a complete moron. Let me guess…….Filathlitikos is the only team around with just one point guard on its entire roster…………RIGHT.
Piss off.

mcbaileyParticipantYeah? A lot of “your” players come to the league and play poorly too. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that playing in a different country isn’t like just getting out of bed and playing in a gym. Besides, those players you mentioned were either teenagers when they played there, played less than ten games, or are mediocre in the NBA anyway.
0- Posted on: Thu, 03/28/2013 - 2:18am #758282
European BasketballerParticipantAnd you are a liar.

McDunkinUnless point guard is greek for Nigerian small forward…you cant be talking about Giannis Adetokoubo…because everybody knows he is representing for the SKYgerian squad at the SF spot!
0 - Posted on: Wed, 03/27/2013 - 3:44pm #758165
mcbaileyParticipantThe Magic used to use Turkoglu as a point forward. Without really reading or doing any research, I’ll assume that’s what you meant. He’s a point forward.
Sure, it might not sound based in fact, but I’m fairly sure you don’t actually read anything here anyway, Euro. Just following your gloriously ignorant example.
0- Posted on: Thu, 03/28/2013 - 2:21am #758283
European BasketballerParticipanthe is NOT a point forward idiot.
How many freaking times do I have to explain this?
He plays POINT GUARD on his team. POINT GUARD
The starting point guard is Nikos Gikas and the backup point guard is Giannis Adetokoubo.
POINT GUARD
Does anyone here even know what a POINT GUARD is?
He does NOT play “point forward” on his team. He plays POINT GUARD.
0- Posted on: Thu, 03/28/2013 - 2:24pm #758459
mcbaileyParticipantDid you even read my comment?

DlesnieParticipantKyle Anderson played PG on his AAU team too, but when you start playing with the big boys you have to play your proper position. How many players 6’7″ or taller have played the point since Magic retired? At 6’10” he wont even be able to pull off playing SG, because every single guard in the NBA would blow right past him.
0- Posted on: Thu, 03/28/2013 - 2:23am #758284
European BasketballerParticipantTheo Papaloukas
Shaun LivingstonFirst two that come to mind.
Adetokoubo does NOT play on an AAU team genius. He plays on a fully professional grown men’s senior basketball club.
From a league that went 3-0 against the NBA D-League all star team. Hardly the same thing as AAU.
0- Posted on: Thu, 03/28/2013 - 8:13am #758349

DlesnieParticipantApparently he is the backup on this team. Also I would bet my life savings on Huntington Prep to beat his shitty greek team.
0- Posted on: Thu, 03/28/2013 - 12:02pm #758416
European BasketballerParticipantThere is no such thing as best player is a starter in European basketball. If you knew ANYTHING about it, you would know that.
Euroleague MVPs have been bench players.
Besides that, Nikos Gikas is a really good player and is easily one of the best young point guards in all of Europe. If he played in NCAA he would be drafted.
Oh yes, an AAU team is going to beat one of the 3 best teams from the same league that went 3-0 against the D-League all star team. And it was average teams from Greek A2 and they were even playing some of their youth players in those games.
Filathlitikos would blow out your high school team by 50 points at the ABSOLUTE MINIMUM.
0- Posted on: Thu, 03/28/2013 - 1:07pm #758443

DlesnieParticipantGod you’re so laughable. The teams they beat were full of a bunch of 25,000 dollar a year players that will never be in the NBA (I guess that’s just like your shitty euro teams). Huntington Prep has multiple people that not only will be in the NBA, but they have a player that will someday be able to compete for the MVP.
Can you please explain to me in your infinite wisdom why Greece didn’t even make it to the olympics other than nobody from Greece is a good enough player to compete at an international level?
0 - Posted on: Thu, 03/28/2013 - 1:08pm #758441

Leonard WashingtonParticipantPardon my Greek but Euro Baller but you are a Malaka who is butt hurt because your Guido prospects don’t get a shot or usually fold while in the NBA.
Face it MOST of the Greek prospect’s skill set is not made for the American way, they can stay in Europe and have a fine and respectable career. There is no shame in that.
0
- Posted on: Thu, 03/28/2013 - 8:54pm #758613
JoeJoParticipantNo he doesn’t. How can you not know this? He plays for Filathlitikos which is in the Greek Second Division. This is not a high caliber level of competition or a “grown men’s senior basketball club.” Most of the players on the team are 21 and under.
0- Posted on: Thu, 03/28/2013 - 11:18pm #758622
European BasketballerParticipantIt’s really sad how stupid most of the people here are. Greek second division is a fully professional league and it’s FULL of GROWN men.
It’s FULL of guys that have played in first division of Greece, first division of Spain, first division of Italy, guys that have played in Eurocup, guys that have played in Euroleague.
It is a FULLY professional league of grown men.
And the Greek second division is better than most first divisions in Europe. And it’s not like there is some big difference from the first and second division in Greece. In Greece and Italy the first and second divisions are not that far apart, as they have much stronger second divisions than other countries do.
Every year 3-5 clubs from the second division eliminate first division clubs at the Greek Cup.
You clearly do not have the slightest freaking clue in hell as to what you are talking about. Greek second division is higher than the best conferences in NCAA.
You know what………..NBA isn’t “high level” competition. It is NOT “high level”. So what the hell does that even mean anyway? Especially since NCAA is LOWER level than Greek second division is.
I guess NCAA is biggest joke ever using your “logic”.
0- Posted on: Fri, 03/29/2013 - 2:38am #758635

JoeWolf1You don’t watch NCAA.

alingeParticipantFor anyone who is interested a couple of anagram’s of the phrase “greek basketball” are
Bleakest Bark Leg
Kebab Legal Treks
Breaks Ballet KegI do realise I am a very dull individual to have come up with these, but it made me laugh.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 03/28/2013 - 4:35am #758299

JoeWolf1You’re going to be really disappointed when he plays the 3 in the NBA.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 03/28/2013 - 4:38am #758298
SiggyParticipantWhether he plays point GUARD or point FORWARD, depends on who he defends on the other end of the floor. The descriptor “point” refers to the role, the guard/forward/center part of the title usually refers to the position that they defend.
0- Posted on: Thu, 03/28/2013 - 12:21pm #758423
European BasketballerParticipantFilathlitikos uses a 3 guard lineup. Same as Panathianikos used to do for years and same as Olympiacos used to do and still often does. This is common in Greek basketball. Playing with the old Yugoslavian 3 guard set.
Depending on the players……..SOME of them would be a point forward. Like Dimitris Diamantidis. He is a point forward or a shooting guard on defense. Nick Calathes was used same way……playing as a shooting guard on defense. Just some obvious examples.
Papaloukas later in his career being used as a shooting guard or small forward on defense.
OK…………………………………..in these systems, if the players can switch and play any spots then the defenses switch. Which is where you have players like Vassilis Spanoulis, Milos Teodosic, Kostas Sloukas, Vangelis Mantzaris – point guards that can switch and guard every single point guard or shooting guard (although in case of Teodosic really is better at guarding SG).
But you have some guys that are completely universal on defense like Spanoulis, Mantzaris, Sloukas. This is common in Greek basketball with the guards that are both big and have good lateral movement. Because they learn to play 3 guard systems.
Filathlitikos has guards that can play in 3 guard system and they have two guards that can switch defensively against every other guard. So they Gikas, who is a point guard on defense, and they have Samothrakis and Adetokoubo who can guard both back court positions.
So they can switch those two players two shooting guard when Gikas is on the floor with them, but they can both guard point guard if Gikas is not in the court. if they play together they can switch off however.
So this is a totally different thing from how some people are talking about “point forward”.
There is a point forward which is like LeBron James and Larry Bird – this is NOT the same thing as a guy like Scottie Pippen or Ron Harper.
Pippen and Harper could play as a one on offense and they could guard 1,2,3 positions on defense. Pippen for example could play “small forward” and could run the offense, play as a point in the system, AND guard anyone at the 3 perimeter positions.
This “point forward” is NOT the same as guys like LeBron or Bird. This is a DIFFERENT type of player. One that can play 1,2,3 on offense or defense. For a Euroleague similarity, would be Diamantidis and Papaloukas when they were younger, and yes, BOTH OF THEM ARE GREEK.
This is type of player Adetokoubo is. In fact, he can guard also POWER FORWARD. He can also play as a power forward on offense. Just because he can guard multiple positions like Pippen, does not mean he cannot guard point guard and is only used to guard small forward.
Nonsense, as in fact he is usually guarding in 1 and 2 positions like I said. And like I am saying, all this “no player like this ever existed since Magic” bullshit is just that BULLSHIT. There is basketball that exists outside the NBA geniuses.
There are two Greek players just from recent years that could play 1,2,3 on offense and defense when they were younger (like 30 and under age). Dimitris Diamantidis and Theo Papaloukas, and they also did that when playing against Team USA and never had any problems at all on defense.
Maybe in USA this is some kind of bizarre and unheard of thing, but not in Greece. And really, it just shows IGNORANCE and lack of basic NBA knowledge. Because it’s not even true for NBA. Pippen was playing as a point guard on offense that could guard all perimeter positions including the PG and he was doing this for years. And this was definitely after Magic retired.
So let’s not pretend that this never happened in NBA, because it sure the hell did when Pippen played. And as I said, it’s not unusual in any way in Greek basketball. Just right now you have Greek player Apostolidis who is a point guard on offense and he can guard 1,2,3 positions. He’s been playing that his whole career and does it RIGHT NOW playing in current first division in Greece. He is 6-7 tall.
So there is definitely some serious bullshit being stated in this thread.
0- Posted on: Thu, 03/28/2013 - 1:09pm #758444

DlesnieParticipantThere is a lot of bullshit in this thread, and it seems to all be coming from the person who created the thread.

King CaluchaParticipantI think he’s going to be a SF in the NBA (or point forward if you want), but I have to give this one to Euroballer.
A point forward is someone like Lebron or Turkoglu who handles the ball offensively but defensively they have to mark an opposing forward. Right now, he doesn’t do that. From what I saw, Adetokoubo is always defending the ball handler in the perimeter.
0- Posted on: Thu, 03/28/2013 - 8:16am #758351

DlesnieParticipantIt really doesn’t matter who he defends in Greece, when he has to defend Ty Lawson or John Wall he is going to get torched by their speed.
0- Posted on: Thu, 03/28/2013 - 1:53pm #758453
European BasketballerParticipantTy Lawson? Ty Lawson couldn’t beat anyone off the dribble in half court in Euroleague. Nothing unusual about his speed. Plenty of point guards in Europe are quicker than Lawson.
Adetokoubo will have seen all kinds of quick point guards when he plays in ACB. Once again, you just make up nonsense that is not true.
Lawson isn’t any quicker than whole bunches of point guards in Europe.
0
- Posted on: Thu, 03/28/2013 - 1:50pm #758451
European BasketballerParticipantYou are claiming a HIGH SCHOOL team can beat a fully professional Greek team Greece has probably the 2nd strongest national league in European history)………………
and you say I am laughable? OK, put down the crack pipe. Filathlitikos is a higer level than NCAA Division 1 and NBA D-League you moron.
And the D-League ALL STAR TEAM includes NBA players genius.
