A player that has not been talked about much, is Gerogia Tech’s Iman Shumpert. He’s a 6’4 185 pounds point guard, from Oak Park, Illinois. This kid is a freshman and he’s already one of the nation’s top playmaker, averaging 6.5 assists per game. Yes, he also turns over the ball three times per game, but he’s still adjusting to the college game. This kid is said to have a great work ethic and he’s said to be a gym rat, and players like that usually come out to be great ala Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, OJ Mayo and etc. The state of Illinois is full of NBA players and Illinois much like New York, loves basketball, so I definitely see this kid working his way to being a lottery pick soon, maybe by next year, especially if Tech lands Derrick Favors, Shumpert assists are going to go up the roof. John Wall, Ricky Rubio, Willie Warren, and perphaps J’rue Holiday, has to watch out because Iman Shumpert is another point guard that can work his way in the 2010 lottery, making it the Draft of Franchise Point Guards.

I think he has a lot of potential and has shown signs of improvement.If he shores up that turnover problem which I’m sure he will, I think he will probably be a point guard in the mold of J.Crittendon of georgia tech.He’ll probably need some time to develop much like Crittendon but you can’t teach that kind of size in a point guard.Then the guy can be a very good scorer from that position and will almost always have a size advantage.He should give those other guys you listed some serious competion. But they have some guys on the geogia tech roster that could make it where Shumpert plays off the ball a bit more. But that shouldn’t be a problem long as he sticks around for his sophmore season he’ll be a very good player.

High School is different than the College game considerably, just like college is different from the NBA, he needs to develop though, but he will be in the NBA someday. Depends how he plays in the college game.

chicago pg’s are the best! recognize. to be honest it seems like shumpert is one of those kids who helps out however he can, and with ga tech it is by being a playmaker and passing the ball a lot. all great players i saw when they were in high school or early on in their college career passed a lot. whether it was corey maggette, jon scheyer, or luther head. at the next level i think shumpert will be more of a combo guard like devin harris or gilbert arenas. who knows though, maybe he will turn out to be a pure pg.

I think that he’s not a pure point but we see that the league is getting to a place where there’s room for guys that are combo guards and I see him being a pretty good example of what a guy with multiple skills can do in the league even though his skills don’t fit under a specific position.I think he’s just a very good guard that will take a little time to find his game and the best way to utilize his skills.As for Chicago point guards being the best can’t really argue with you there because I’m a Memphis Tigers fan and that Derrick Rose cat is the truth and Chicago has had a long history of churning out very good guards.

Iman Shumpert the Freshman from Chicago, has came to Ga Tech an made an name for himself. He was a Mc Donalds All American an is having a “Marbury First Year” @ Ga Tech.. He’s Big, Strong an can use his body, an he can finish. HE does have a nice Mid Range game as well an can hit the 3 Point if left open If he stays at least 3 years he will be aite, they have a chance to go deep as the Elite 8, Possibly the Final Four bring in some solid recruits, an The surrounding cast of Lance Storrs, Mike Miller, Zac Peacock, he can put it all together he’ll be in the mode of a Randy Foye,/ TJ Ford

how you figure.?..hes a good guard but hasnt shown anything that makes me think hes a top pg?..he can score..his passing is alright but how many times during the year did the big men not get the ball because he didnt give them the ball and instead took a bad shot?..he turns the ball over almost as much as he gets an assist. also tweener refers more to a undersized player at there position where as a combo guard refers more to a player who can play a lil of both but isnt great at either

He doesn’t need to play the point they already have enough trouble getting all their guards time…..he has to play the 3 all the time but they still use him as their primary playmaker….

i know this but you said hes a real combo guard like he’s above other combo guards out there. hes a good player.i wouldnt call him awesome. he hasnt showed me anything that suggest at this point that he deserves alot of praise

Shumpert could be what Crittenton was supposed to be next season. He was easily the most important player on Georgia Tech’s team this season. Whenever he played well they won, and if not then they lost.

But he was a HUGE problem in the way that GA Tech fed the post this season, as Tech was the worst team at feeding the post this season from all the teams I watched. Look at the Ohio State game, and that was exactly how he played the vast majority of the season. He jacks up shots early in the possessions, tries all kinds of risky passes for better or worse, and will drive into the teeth of the D without even looking to dish or take what’s given to him. He has a bunch of upside and talent, but he’s too inconsistent and has a low basketball IQ. He is a big-time defender and he’s physically-gifted though.

He could be. It would take work this off-season, but he’s talented enough to get there. He’s not the athlete Crittenton is, but he can be as productive.

i dont see it. i dont see the potential in him that i saw in jarvis. and even if he does get to that level thats not really saying much since that means he would be on the level of what jarvis was as a freshman

Javaris Crittenton hasn’t really done anything in the NBA though. It’s not like Crittenton has just been setting really high standards at all in terms of his potential. Shumpert also knows he can play SG in the NBA, unlike Crittenton who’s not willing to playing off the ball in the NBA. That should help his potential alot, because he’s gonna be a combo guard in the NBA too probably when he makes it.

arent we talking about what they did in college?…cant really bring nba into it since Shumpert isnt there yet. hes still working to get as good as jarvis was when jarvis was just a freshman. cant compare what someone is doing in the nba with what someone is doing in college since the talent level is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better in the nba. yeah Shumpert can play sg in college like most guys who are in the nba but no one knows if he can or will play that int he nba.

Yea true. I wouldn’t rule him out of being as good as Crittenton though, he has the ability to do it in college either next year or possibly his Senior year.

i just dont see it…he has spurts of good games but has spurts of games where you dont really notice him. a more talented jarvis isnt doing to well in the nba and i doubt this kid will do any better. if jarvis stayed in college the same amount of years as this kid then he’s easily a allamerican

what ever happened to don? only reason i jumped on this because i remember this post and was going to say someone said this about this year but whatever. all i know is, is that gt doesnt have great passing guards and that would include shumpert. hes not going to be a difference maker in the nba if he ever gets there.
