I see so much confusion lately by people over rumors and reports of draft and free agent related trades. I have been following the NBA for about 20 years now and feel I have a ok grasp on a few things that are going on. First off the Love rumors. The klay Thompson part was never realistic for a number of reasons not the least of which are klay’s big extension and good defense for GSW. The affallo trade I firmly believe is a key piece for the Love trade. If Minny still rejects the offer, the Bulls added backcourt help and much needed scoring. My favorite game of chicken going on right now is the 3 way one between Cleveland, Philly, and Utah. The Philly 3rd pick and thad young for no. 1 is a lock. What Cleveland is actually trying to do is pry that 10th pick from Philly. Cleveland is using the very real threat of trading down with Utah for the 5 and Favors to pressure Philly for the 10. Now this is my opinion: Philly is (understandably) overestimating the 10 pick. If it were 3 spots higher I’d say no way but if they REALLY believe Wiggins is one of the next great superstars (they do) then they should be smart and ask for a future conditional first. Top 5 protection would be more than fair. If Philly is really serious about a long term rebuild, then they would figure out netting a role player at 10 and a player they dont really want actually makes less sense. With the protected pick thrown in this is a fair deal. I know Sixers fans like all fans want to completely screw the other them in any trade, but more often than not that does not happen.  You have to go for the reasonable deal. Thoughts?  I’m waiting for the backlash of people arguing the 10th pick will be some game changing all star lol. The reason Cleveland wants it so bad is that they are in win now mode and assets and role players.

I hope you’re right that 3 & Thad is a lock, even as a Sixers fan I’m not sure that’s quite enough for this year’s top pick. On the other side I think Cleveland including a protected future 1st plus number 1 this year may be too much for 3&10. As a Sixers fan I’m trying to be fair to both sides. I get what you’re saying about the 10th pick but there’s a decent chance that pick turns into a guy capable of being a fringe starter on a really good team. Just my opinion.

I just don’t think Utah will include Favors in that deal.

I think you nailed, that is exactly what’s going on.  The big tip to this was Philly’s release that they would be happy to take Embiid at 3.  That’s a shot across the bow to Clevland to not work with Utah and expect to get Embiid.

I do think that Utah includes Favors but I don’t think that Clevland goes for it.  I think getting Thad and Embiid at three from Philly would be great for Clevland.  Gives them a post now, and potential later.  Getting that future pick or #10 probably is the deal maker for them though.

If I’m Utah, I still offer this, but try to sweeten it with next year’s pick (top 7 protected).  Probably not enough for Cleveland but I believe Favors is much better than Thad Young and so Utah offers more now.

Bulls will not want to make any trades before they know what is going on with Melo or Love.  They can not take on any more salary until Melo or Love is in the fold or not in the fold so that they know exactly what they are looking at salary wise.  Things can move all at once but they can not risk taking on salary and then losing out on Melo because of a few dollars.

I think your spot on with this. Its one big game 1st a report comes out that Philly will take Embiid (believed to be CLE guy for a little while, atleast before the injury). And then today I log on and see the headline "Cleveland leaning toward Wiggins" (Who we all know PHI has a real thing for).

In the End I think CLE will win, the sixers will cave and fork over 3 & 10. And do you know what, I wouldn’t blame them for it either. If your Sam Hinkie and you truely believe that Wiggins is the guy in this draft and has the Star potential then by all mean do what you need to do to get him as long as your not selling the farm.

I think once CLE is on the clock and Hinkie is looking right down the barrell of losing his guy Wiggins, he will say "Enough here 3&10. This is my guy I already have an injury pleague Center who sat out all of last year and I’m not sure if him and Embiid will even fit together, it too much of a risk to lose out on my guy for the 10th pick which is gonna be a nice player but not a star in a guy like McDermott,Stauskas,Hood,Saric.

Its going to be very interesting to see how this plays out but luckly for everyone we are only 3 days away and by about 7:30-8 on thursday we will finally get all the answers.

@TripleDoubelScout: First off, I actually like your posts. But please consider making separate paragraphs when you change subjects? It would make it ten times easier to read.

To address your post, I think Philly is right in being stingy with their number 10 pick. It’s true that stars rarely are picked in that area, but not all drafts are created equal. This draft has some serious potential in the mid-first, so it is asking an a lot for Philly to give up No. 3, No. 10 and possibly Thad Young. (That’s what Chad Ford specualted anyways).

The truth is, the 76ers are in a pitiful situation despite everything being by deliberate design. They have MCW (who basically played pick-up basketball for a season), Noel (who the eff knows about him) and Thad Young. (A veteran role player). That’s it. So if they give away their assets at a shot for Wiggins, they are literally risking everything on him developing into a top 10 player. Which is possible, but would be hard to accomplish on such a dysfunctional team.

I think it’s better to stockpile assets, and put your team in a position to be a force for FAs.

yeah i think cavs will end up drafting wiggins and thats it. they really would be retarded not too.

no way they have much interest in thad young philly has to give up wroten and both picks or its never goin down.

the difference between wiggins and ebiid remaining a huge gamble at 3 aka sam bowie ,could be the differece between the last lottery this team expects to be in for a long time or a busted foot and back and a place in the halls of mediocrity.
