Tongue-Out-Like-23Participanthttp://content.usatoday.com/communities/gameon/post/2012/05/pacers-coach-frank-vogel-calls-heat-a-bunch-of-floppers/1#.T61EFe26Xww
Prior to his Pacers taking on the Miami Heat in Game 1 Sunday, the Indiana coach called his opposition the biggest floppers in the game.
"You can say that," Vogel told Michael Wells of the Indianapolis Star. "It’ll be very interesting to see how the referees officiate the series and how much flopping they reward."
Not clear enough?
"Every drive to the basket they have guys not making a play on the ball," Vogel said. "But sliding in front of drivers. Often times they’re falling down even before contact is even being made. It’ll be interesting to see how the series is officiated."

Is this trash-talking or is it Frank Vogul making excuses already? How much truth do you give this statement? How many games will this series go and who wins?
Honestly, I do believe the Heat flop from time to time, Battier is someone that comes to mind when he takes charges. LeBron and Wade don’t exactly flop but rather yell when are touched and exclaim to the ref about the non-call, not exactly flopping but it still annoys some people.
The way Roy Hibbert could not take advantage of the 6’7" Glen Davis in the 1st round worries me, he’s supposed to be an All-Star and a series changer but was thoroughly outplayed by a 6’7" Glen Davis. I don’t think the Pacers can beat the Heat and if Roy Hibbert (and Indiana as a whole) play the way they did in the 1st round, it’ll be a 5 game series. If they play hard and well, they can stretch it to 7 or atleast a very competitive/close 6 games.

scott3210ParticipantI guess Frank Vogul is trying to be Phil Jackson now. Hopefully Lebron James gets pissed like and goes off like he did on Chris Bosh’s girlfriend (when bosh was in toronto).

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantYeah, I remember this

IndianaBasketballParticipantI don’t think he’s trash talking. He’s raising a legit question. How are the officials going to officiate this game? The Pacers have the rebounding and size advantage in the low post. IF the officials reward the Heat’s defenders with flopping, the Pacers won’t be able to use the only strengths they have against the Heat.
Is this any different than what Coach Hollins did this year when he complained about the Clippers? Is it any different than what Coach Carlisle has done when it comes to the way Dirk is defended? Coach Vogul is a young coach, but this is a veteran tactic. It’s smart. This Pacers coaching staff is very good.
He wants this to be a physical game, where I think the Pacers can make this a good series.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantMiami Heat in 4!!!!

HaleParticipantUnless Miami no-shows I don’t think it goes more then 5 to be honest.

IndianaBasketballParticipantThe Pacers are top five rebounding team. Top ten defensive team. Top five in free-throw percentage. A team with those qualities usually has solid success in the playoffs. I’d be surprised if they were swept. The Heat beat them bad the first two games this year, but only won by 2 points in OT the third game and lost by 15 points the fourth game.
Coach Vogul is trying to light a fire under this team. It’s no difference than what he did last year versus the Bulls. The Pacers will lose this series, but they’ll make it tough on the Heat and have a chance to make it very interesting if Hibbert and West can dominate the post.

HaleParticipant^Rondo and Wade are both dirty, it’s certainly not just D-Wade.

capecodderParticipantThey do flop alot
Also wonder if they end up against the Celtics again, what dirty play Wade will make on Rondo this year

TruettParticipantIf you are not trying to influence the refs. Basically he said that the refs in the nyk series got a lot of calls wrong… Strange that you can say that the other team flopped, but you can’t say that te ref got the call wrong w/out getting fined… Anyways, he is also right about Miami, the flop constantly. Even tho my Knicks were terribly over matched in the series Miami got the benefit of a lot of bs calls… Remember when lebron ran into a chandler screen in game one, then grabbed his head as he fell to the ground(tho his head was not touched) and then winced around the court but was fine once the game started? Yah he flops…

KayjayParticipantLook, I’m all for trash talking out of confidence. And Vogel might be giving his team some swagger going into Miami. Its good for playoff basketball…
With that being said this is just dumb. Whether its raising questions or not, he’s creating a security blanket that isn’t there when you talk about the refs job. Along with that, you taking shots at one of the best one-two punches in the NBA right now? Lolol why would you do that? I don’t understand. People already recall what they said about the Knicks, then NY came out and blew them out.
Vogel should of been smarter to me. I would of just been quiet and surprised the Heat. Not to say the Pacers don’t have chance. But you don’t motivate a team who usually lacks focus most of the time. You should hope to prey on that fact. Now they have a reason to come out and be in attack mode. I’m js…

IndianaBasketballParticipantI’m confused… Read the article. Where did Vogul trash talk?
He simply stated facts. He didn’t call out any one player. He didn’t call out LeBron, D. Wade or Bosh. He didn’t say the Heat’s defense wasn’t as great as people said it was, like Jason Terry did last year. He simply said the Heat flop and it’d be interesting to see how the officials call the series.
Look… Everyone respects the Heat and the greatness of LeBron and D. Wade, but the Pacers aren’t afraid of them… They’re not going to walk on egg shells around them.
I like this move. There are threads on this site about flopping and now that a coach calls it out, it’s a problem? Smfh…

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantI like this move by Vogul, not only may it influence the referee’s officiating but it lights a fire under his team as IndianaBasketball said, and it may make Battier think twice about flopping.

Andrew1984ParticipantAs riveted as I’d be by an Oklahoma City-Miami Finals, if Indiana beat Miami somehow, I would laugh my head off and would be just utterly amused. Especially as a Clevelander (albeit one who does not feel quite as emotionally spurned by LeBron’s departure as most Clevelanders), it would still be so funny if a team like the Pacers just played better team basketball and took Miami out.

Raef LaFrentzParticipantA coach calling out players as "floppers" is okay with me. You gotta’ call ’em like you see ’em. It might not be the smartest thing to do seeing that usually when people say things negative about LeBron he just uses it to hurt them in the next game. And let’s be honest, coaches are TELLING their players to flop these days. If an opposing team’s player makes contact with you where, if you fall down or do a bit of acting, a foul will be called; coaches WANT their players to flop. It is the smart thing to do. Respectable? That’s another question altogether…

NYK2010ParticipantFrank Vokul is a good coach and I kinda agree with what he’s saying. Refs were awful in Game 1 in the Knicks n Heat series. Miami was already up double figures and everytime the Knicks touched Lebron it he fell back 3 ft. Nothing like a 260 lb guy flopping when JR barely touched him right in front of the refs.
Grangers and Hibbert are key if both play well this could go 6 and some other guys who knows 7 if they shoot great. That probably isn’t likely and if Miami plays w/a sense of urgency and wants to close this series out quickly it’ll be over in 5. Not like Miami had to struggle in the last series outside of Game 4. That’ll change in this series but if it goes past 6 I’d be shocked. Indy just doesn’t have enough to beat Miami.

KayjayParticipantLets see who this lights a fire under, the Pacers or the Heat. Its not like they have to worry about any player on the Pacers dropping 40 points. I’m js…

marcusfizer21ParticipantThis tactic so reminds me of the Zen Master.. Let the mind games begin!!
0 - Posted on: Fri, 05/11/2012 - 4:43pm #669298

raybeasParticipantthe coaching edge goes to the Pacers. Will Lebron get the call every time he yells "Oh, sh*t!"? Will Wade get the call when he drives and falls down with out contact? It will be interesting to see.
