yaboymalParticipantIs this guy rooting against the usa or what? throughout the entire game this espn commentator fran fraschilla kept saying over and over again about how greece is just treating this game like an exhibition and there 2 inside plyers are not playing, making excuses over and over agian it was getting on my damn nerves do any of you guys feel this way..they won by damn near 30 points and this guy is still downplaying the usa preformance saying how bad greece was playing and saying how the coach doesnt want to show everything they have I mean maybe if the u.s. one by 5 I would understand but 30 hell no you cannot keep making excuses like that

Pacers_Fan33Participanti respect fraschilla but i know what your saying. during one of their games earlier i think rudy, russell and eg all missed relatively simple dunks and every time fraschilla brung up that they should quit tryin to be flashy and put the ball in the hole, but a player on spain i think it was missed a dunk and he didnt say anything. its seems like hes done stuff like that throughout the entire exhibition round.

ghettosermonParticipantFran is ESPN’s “international guy.” He acts like he’s the only one who scouts European players. He constantly overrates guys and acts like every solid player in Europe could play in the league. He’s the same as when they have Dicky V on draft talk and how he pimps 4 year seniors and constantly bashes foreign players and high schoolers he knows nothing about. Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t Dicky V go on a rant how Orlando should have taken Okafor over Howard?

yaboymalParticipantghettosermon your right on point, he overrates these european players, I think he said something like kevin love would just be an average player or big man on a power house european team that really crossed the line for me I actually think kevin love would be a good international player, if josh childress can become a really good player on olympaikos which is a powerhouse european team I know kevin love would do some serious damage

jas225ParticipantYeah, i have been watching the games that have been on. He does anoint himself as the omniscient one of international basketball. A lot of his comments annoy me, and he repeats the most obvious things like “The US guards like rose and westbrook have the perfect body type for the physical guard play in international ball.” He literally says then at the start of the game when rose is in, then says it again when westbrook comes in, and he says it every game. He also says that the US will not be able to get out on the break as much on the better teams, but from what i saw they still got out on the break vs spain who is a good team, and also greece.
I mean the guy does know basketball or else he wouldn’t be where he is. I’m just glad i could vent, bc i have been thinking these things and i saw the topic haha.0 - Posted on: Wed, 08/25/2010 - 10:08am #385232

wowthisisneatParticipanti agree it sure did seem as if he was tossing out the possibility that alot of euro players could come over quite easily. he mentioned that a greek center was a top 15 center in the world. i dont know much about the euroleague but when you have a guy like marc gasol who was one of their best players an hes an above average center and rudy fernandez whos top shelf over there is a bench player here it makes me wonder

jas225ParticipantThanks for pointing that out. I forgot about that statement, that really got under my skin too. I think he said that Love would be an average rotational big in international play. When Love was in he grabbed 12 boards and 10 pts! he played 12 mins lol. even though the game was out of reach at that point.

yaboymalParticipantyea man I have been trying to hold it in but I just had to vent on this and your right he repeats the same thing over and over again every game… every game he always brings up who is missing from the international team and how they would make so much of a difference if they were playing against the u.s. but he fails to bring up who is missing for the american team such as THE ENTIRE 2008 GOLD MEDAL WINNING ROSTER D

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantNo Fran was speaking the truth.
He isin’t rooting for Team USA, he’s telling the people slow down. It’s not a real game. It’s a tuneup game and people shouldn’t act like if these team matchup again expect the same result.
There was one point where Greece gave up in the 3rd. They decided to fight another day. They also didn’t use there big men either.

ghettosermonParticipantHe definitely knows his stuff but his mind is so bias towards Euro players it clouds his mind from being a true analyst. It always amazes me come draft time how he can talk about a guy riding the pine in Euroleague averaging 3 points a game and give a laundry list on how great they are and have no criticisms of their game. I don’t know how he manages to convince himself that every single Euro draft prospect is amazing. If you look at this past decade probably only 15% of Euro players who were drafted ended up playing meaningful minutes in the NBA. Listening to him talk about international players is like listening to Ron Jaworski announce an Eagles game.

When has he done that? I heard him say some euro prospects had no business in the draft. I remember him talking about Tony Parker saying he wasn’t a good defender. I remember talking about Rudy Fernandez, Tiago Splitter and saying they’re not NBA ready or they will have to adjust.
Also, Greece didn’t play there best 2 players. USA did win by 30. Greece was treating it like a tuneup game.

Your saying USA treated it like a tuneup game because there get LeBron and them in the Olympics? Come on man. Do your homework.
LBJ and the 08 crew is not playing in 12.

Stojakovicfor3ParticipantIf they call Vassilis Spanoulis the European Kobe Bryant, how were they missing their best 2 players. Plus Sofo is Greece’s 3rd string center, as Fran pointed out. So he’s not one of their best players.

jas225ParticipantNo that is not the reason they treated like tune up game. Stop talking to me like i am a child. The played Spain tough with more of a tournament game intensity. They played Greece with more of an exhibition approach. Which i felt was easily noticeable.
You are saying Melo isn’t playing. (he said he was committed). you are saying dwight won’t play? who are you to say that the 08 players are not going to play when they having even said yes or no? You are just arguing to argue.

yaboymalParticipantwhoah! mr.knick 32 its time to put you on blast and also school you a bit on some basketball knowledge. First of all its ridiculous to say its not a real game its just an exhibition, I dont care what you say both teams came out to win today anytime a basketball game like this between two countries are played they both come out to win because they are playing and representing there countries. Also when you said they gave up in the 3rd thats a total bs excuse, if thats the case we can say that about any team that gets blown out. And lastly your right I dont expect the same result next time they play, but you cant say they didn’t have there bigs when we beat them by 30 with only one true center imagine if the u.s. had there top big man playing. If the U.S. gets beat one day Mr.Knick32 I will say to you oh they gave up they just decided they want to fight another day that my friend sounds completely stupid

Melo won’t play, Howard won’t play. They didn’t even practice with the team. There saying it now. I highly doubt if they play in 2012. They will most likely go with the 12 they have and maybe 3 guys who they cut in the past.

jas225ParticipantAnthony, who also played in the 2004 Olympics but is sitting out this summer after getting married, was asked if he wants to return in 2012.
“Of course,” he said. “I’m locked in. I’m committed.”
That sounds like he is playing.
I think if dwight said he was playing, or if lebron said he was playing, coach k would be ok with having them on the roster haha.

Nope, I’m from NY. Plus, if people wanna give me negatives ( like you and your friends are doing), go right ahead. Doesn’t matter to me at all.
Also, if Melo and Howard do play- I’ll admit im wrong. It’s not a big deal. I don’t see them playing. That’s just me.

What did I say that was wrong? I said I highly doubt that both Melo and Howard will play in 2012. That’s not wrong, it’s a opinion.

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantI think Greece tried in the first half and when they started getting blown out in the 2nd half, they just packed it up.
That’s my idea.

yaboymalParticipantthis is my last post because im done debating with people that know nothing about the game, you posted the following: No Fran was speaking the truth.
That was a stupid excuse and argument and i already stated why and there is nothing you can say to make yourself seem like you know what your talking about y ask anyone else on this website and they will agree with me not you i this forum is for people that know basketball so i suggest you talk about ball somewhere else im done have a good day

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantIt isin’t a stupid excuse. You just fail to realize what I mean.
This was a tuneup game before the actual games that count. Greece was losing badly. Instead of trying to make a comeback like Spain did, Greece decided to open up the rotation and let some of the guys who usually don’t play alot get some PT in the 2nd half. Greece never attempted to make a comeback at all in the 3rd when the game got out of hand. Like Fran said on the game ( which I’m questioning if you watched it) that the Greece coached didn’t want to give the other teams anything they can game plan on.
I hope that made sense. Have a good day.

yaboymalParticipantI saw the enitre game and they didnt give up just because they widened there rotation towards the end that doesnt mean they gave up, the u.s already had a big lead even with greeces better players in the game

yaboymalParticipantthis was my argument against your original post:
whoah! mr.knick 32 its time to put you on blast and also school you a bit on some basketball knowledge. If the U.S. gets beat one day Mr.Knick32 I will say to you oh they gave up they just decided they want to fight another day that my friend sounds completely stupidthat was my argument can you read and im not mad at all

I agree to a point. Greece did sub in some other players in and they gave up a huge chunk in the 3rd. When you sub in players and play them for a good chunk of PT, you either gave up or decided it’s not worth it to play your starters. You tell me. They decided to fight another day and not allow teams to gameplan on them.

ChewyParticipant* I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels this way.
Is anyone else sick of hear Fran announce these games? When USA does well he talks about how the other team isnt playing all their best players (guess what fran, the USA team isn’t eithier). When the US play a close game like against Spain all he talks about is how easily this US team could lose. When US gets a fastbreak all he talks about is how they won’t get easy buckets in “real” games. When the US get bad calls against them all he talks about is how the US team need to “adjust to the officiating” instead of admitting that european refs are human and make mistakes just like the rest of us.

stanford hoopsFirst of all both teams TRIED and didnt give up. People keep forgetting these are real games so teams are losing because they got beat not because they gave up
with that said you have to realize when people say its not a real game they are saying that because the coach’s arent running the plays they will be running later. so the players are out there playing hard tryna win but they arent running the plays they will be running once the worlds start. thats why you didnt see the zones and other defensive schemes or offensive schemes by either team. if you did the game would have been much closer because greece would not have played man and fouled on every other fast break
As Far as mr knicks32 saying he doesnt think melo and howard wont play thats his opinion. but it falls into the same catagory as me saying kobe wont play for the lakers this season and ask for a trade, yeah it could happen but chances are it wont. nba players back out for the worlds alot. the olympics on the other hand is another story especially since both played last time and said its certain they will play this time. usually if the stars go back on there word its because a bunch of other stars back out. theres nothing to suggest either wont play in 2012 and every thing to suggest they will

ChewyParticipantare trying to say is that if a player has already gone public saying that he will play in the olympics then what reason is there to doubt him? It seems that American players are taking these international tournaments more serious then in previous years. I don’t think most of the top players have the “get my gold then back out forever” attitude anymore. Also, none of the top players from the previous olympic team will be free agents in 2012, so what I am asking is why do you not think these top players will come back for it?
