MJ FOR LIFE 23ParticipantHe got bigger as well, he’s gonna be so much harder to stop now. Plus his jumpshot is coming off nicely now, don’t be surprised if the Wizards make the playoffs soon. McGee is becoming a beast as well now as long as he doesn’t slack off.

IndianaBasketballParticipantDon’t let McGee’s helpside shotblocking confuse you to think he’s a beast… He’s not a basket protector at all. The Wizards are one of the worst teams in giving up paint points.
They need somebody who can really protect the basket/clog the paint.

iguapops420ParticipantI was just thinking the same exact thing. McGee is the kind of guy who can come away with 10 blocks and still leave you thinking about how bad his D was. Just doesn’t care about that side of the ball. He’s a good highlight reel, but he’s by no means a beast, much less a defensive Beast. The Wiz need a real big man coach in the worst way. I’d give Blatche/McGee one more year to see if they can get their ISH together, then I’d send one of em out for a good vet presence.

WizardofOzParticipant^^You basically hit the nail on the head.
McGee is a freakish shot-blocker, but he isn’t a great defender by any means. I think it’s ridiculous that he got one vote for All-Defensive team. He lacks fundamentals on that end.
But Andray Blatche was even worse last season. I’m gonna give him some benefit of the doubt because he was out of shape just coming off an injury, and lacked mobilty last season, but he didn’t give a sh*t about rotating on the D. I think he was the main reason why the Wizards gave up so many points inside, even moreso than McGee.
But Andray has said he’s been working on his body and getting stronger. I hope Dray has a bounce back year. He has All-Star talent.
And I might be alone on this one, but I think that if everyone remains healthy, the Wizards can make the playoffs next year (no bias).

Bmore_DCParticipantyou have to play defense to make the playoffs…

iguapops420ParticipantIn all honesty i could see them making the playoffs based on simply outrunning other teams to death. I said this in another post concerning the Wiz, but I think they’re probably a vet 1 and 5 away from a LOW playoff seed assuming Blatche were to play the game the right way and use his talent/skills to get wins instead of stats. A vet 5 like Foster or Pryzbilla could be pretty good start. Follow that up with a strong floor-general type PG and it would be possible. But in all honesty W.O.W, i wouldn’t hold my breath if I were you bro.

Bmore_DCParticipantexactly…i mean EVERYTHING would have to go right for them to even think about the playoffs…
PG – John Wall – absolute stud, star player you build around
SG – Nick Young/Jordan Crawford – Young plays NO defense and is very trigger happy, its still not known whether they will re-sign him…Crawford showed promise last year but he is undersized at the 2 although i do like his game
SF – Rashard Lewis – Only got him for financial reasons…very limited on defense, good but not a great shooter…not real big on Rashard at this point in his career…
PF – Blatche – Doesnt even know what defense is, and has no desire to play down low on either end. Out of shape (usually), and has character issues…i will say he has some potential if he puts it all together
C – McGee – An athletic freak but below average bball IQ, selfish tendencies, below average low post defense, and no moves on offense besides some highlight alley-oops and dunks…probably the teams 2nd best player
Their best player off the bench is Trevor Booker…They have some nice young players in Mack, Vesely, Singleton, and maybe Seraphin, but other than that the bench is almost laughable…Mustafa Shakur, Othyus Jeffers, Ndiaye, Larry Owens…
Nice players…for the D-League…I donno maybe im being a little harsh but this roster is boarder-line horrible…but they have A LOT of cap room and some nice young players to build around…they are still 2-3 years away from being legit
Oh and that John Wall guy is ok…

iguapops420ParticipantI’m actually a fan of N’diaye. Seems like he could end up a decent back-up center. His D was pretty good in college. Not sure how he faired in the NBA.

WizardofOzParticipant^^I heard he played good D in the D-League.

iguapops420ParticipantGood to hear, I never expect much, but if he can provide a game similar to what Nazr Muhommed does for OKC, then we can call it succesful. At worst he should be a decent 3rd Center.

Bmore_DCParticipantonce the Wizards get a good player in this coming draft…and sign a legit free agent to pair with Wall…and like Iggy said, add some vets and bigs, then they will be competitive

TallmanNYCParticipantThey need Vesely to become a legit NBA starter and I just don’t think we will know that until we see how he handles the U.S. game. I’m skeptical because while he looks athletic, it is in the context of the far less athletic European leagues. If the guy doesn’t develop a mid-range game, then he might get you a highlight reel dunk every game on some fastbreak but that won’t be enough to be a starter.
