Jordan Farmar acted on Tuesday as if he was saying goodbye to the team.

He made sure to say goodbye to the media after his exit interview Tuesday, “in case I don’t see you again.”

The Lakers drafted Farmar with the 26th pick in the 2006 NBA Draft and he will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

He played at Taft High School in Woodland Hills, at UCLA in college and his entire pro career has been with the Lakers.

“I love L.A., [but] I think it’s good for somebody to get away sometimes,” Farmar said.

He has started just two games in his career, both in his rookie season.

“It’s definitely a struggle for me because my role hasn’t expanded much in four years,” Farmar said. “That was kind of the plan going into every year, to get a little more and a little more and it’s kind of stayed the same.”

The team’s other backup point guard, Shannon Brown, has the option to hit the market as well.

yeah i read it too. Im kinda torn. Im the biggest farmar fan on this site. I would love to have him remain a laker, but as the article points out, he has actully declined minutes each of the last 3 years. His style is not the triangle style. Someone will get him and people next decemeber will be talking about what a steal he was on this site. I hope he leaves and does his thing.

I like Farmar. I think the timing is right for him to find another team. He’s played his role and helped the Lakers win 2 out of 3 titles. Now he wants to go to another team where he’ll have a much bigger role.

Farmar does need to go somewhere to help him put up better scoring numbers but he may never be more than a back up because he can not defend and there are not many starting jobs available.

See guys who play in the triangle and do well ge the misconception that they are better than what they are…Horace Grant (probably the best to leave) Scott Burrell, Jason Caffey, Devean George…he just needs to continue to be a combo guard in LA, and enjoy life…ask Ariza..he was getting ready to be compared to Pip alongside Kobe, and got greedy.

Farmar needs to work on his athleticism. Mainly jumping.

I apologize if that was sarcasm, but have you ever watched him play…he has a 40 plus inch vert, and gets a lot of elevation on his layups and jumpers, I have seen him throw down some nasty dunks as well. His jumping and quickness make him the player he is.

He needs to improve his defense and decision making.

It’s not his athleticism, it’s his strength. And the fact that he’s not a true playmaker (which is very strange, because he used to drop dimes in college alot of times) in the NBA. He also isn’t a great defender even though he does try harder than he used to.

He is a backup point guard with the possibility of suckering someone into paying him starter money because of the shine of the rings Kobe got him. Good for him, good for Shannon Brown. I hope they thank Kobe. The Lakers won’t have any problems replacing either of them.

Teams never have problems replacing guys who play 13 minutes per game and was a 40 percent shooter in the playoffs.
