Former University of Kentucky basketball player Darnell Dodson has been dismissed from the Southern Mississippi University basketball team after his arrest for allegedly stealing items from a USM fraternity house, the Hattiesburg (Miss.) American reported.

Dodson played one season at Kentucky in 2009-10 before leaving the team last summer. He was arrested in Lexington on a disorderly conduct charge in October. He joined Southern Miss in January.

USM police told the newspaper that Dodson was arrested along with Cory Markell Smith, a former member of the Southern Miss team. The two face charges of auto burglary and residential burglary, which are felony charges.

USM Coach Larry Eustachy announced Thursday night that Dodson was dismissed from the team with no mention of the reason.

Bond was set at $20,000 for both Dodson and Smith.
Dodson, a 6-foot-7 guard, averaged 6.0 points and 2.5 rebounds in 35 games for Kentucky in the 2009-10 season.
