Great read! I guess from one perspective they were trying to gain an unfair advantage in recruiting, but viewed from another perspective it could easily be looked at as an attempt to level the playing field with the Carolina schools. How many people think it’s hypocritical for the NCAA to frown upon Arizona’s activities and ignore the advantage that some other schools have with very similar circumstances?

There are probably several of these tournaments going on during the “dead period” I wish the author had reported on more “tournaments” if there were any. It really gives some illumination on the prowess of the carolina schools in attracting national recruits. Not only do they have stellar coaching, history, name recognition, national tv exposure, but also an in house viewing of elite talent coupled with unofficial recruiting visits. WOW! The only other thing I would like to see is an investigative expose’ on the recruiting techniques of John Calapari, one that chronicles his ascent from UMASS, to Memphis, to Kentucky. Three years, three one and dones, one # 1 (ROSE) one top 5 (Evans) one high lottery lock (Wall), not to mention Camby in his past.

dont need to read it to know why …its the tv exposure as well as the history of the school, the shot at a title, and best of all the best shot to make it to the nba. coach cal can recruit more then some of the smaller schools because of the recruiting budject. every school doesnt have the money to fly all over the country to recruit a player.

as far as coach cal past lets take a look at it. UMASS. what did coach do wrong?…it was camby who was the bad guy. coach cal didnt put money in his hanjd. at memphis did cal set it up for rose to not take the s.a.t? some fans and reporters obviously dont know much about copllege basketball. he gets the blame because tyhis stuff happened while he was the coach not because hes the one who let it happen. coachs cant control a player accepting money from boosters. some coaches do know and do help a kid get money. people need to stop blaming the coaches and place it on the players who broke the rules. rose is the cheater, camby is the cheater. and whats there to investigate about coach cal and one and dones?…everyone and doen was already thought to be one and done before they even played for coach cal.
