XYRYXParticipantEspn and Yahoo! are both reporting that Embiid has a spinal fracture and is out at least for tournaments first round most likely longer.
Wow what a blow to Kansas and especially to him. The only thing really stopping him was something like this. I hope he will be fine both mentally and physically whenever this is. Get well big fella!
The draft is still far away but this may change a lot on the front end of the top 3 or even 5 come june…

Chilbert arenasParticipantIt’s a stress fracture which is usually due to chronic overuse and not acute like when Evan Turner fractured two vertebrae on a missed dunk. Turner was out 8 weeks. It’s better than a slipped disk or any ligament damage to the knee but if I’m Embiid I’d have to consider sitting out the rest of the year.

thatdude44ParticipantGoing off what you said about him sitting the rest of the year out, I’m fine with that but if you Embiid do you come out or stay for another year?

The Scare Crow RisesParticipantThis is going to have a crazy domino effect if it’s true.
Will he return to school for his Sophmore and risk losing more money and reinjuring himself again? or will he enter the draft having been an Elite level prospect before he went down with this injury ala Nerlens Noel? He would still be a top 10 pick IMO if he’s injured seriously or not.
On a side note, where does this place Embiid now in the mock? The Bucks would have to take Wiggins or Parker leaving the 76ers left to select the other guy, Exum probally slides up to Orlando and Randle and Smart fight it out for the 4th pick?
How crazy would it be if the 76ers selected Joel with the Pelicans pick(7th-10th) and just rested him a year ala Noel? How insane would it be for the 76ers to leave the draft with Wiggins or Parker(Top 3) and Embiid(Pelican’s pick 7th-10th)??? Stranger things have happened in the NBA draft!

For_Never_EverParticipantEmbid is the first basketball player I’ve ever heard of getting a stress fracture on his back. Sounds scary.

DunksNJordans23ParticipantHope the kid is okay. KU dropping in the seeding will actually help them with this latest development so they can face a lesser team.

Chilbert arenasParticipantI really don’t think his stock will drop that far. No team in the top 3 is going to be saved by a single player and will most likely be in the lottery again next year. This doesn’t seem to be nearly as serious an injury as Noel. He won’t have to sit out next year. Griffin had to sit out his rookie year for precautionary reasons with a stress fracture in his patella and since has not had any long term effects from it. I think there’s a lot of overreaction to this. He doesn’t have degenerative knees like Oden. Remember Sullinger had back health concerns that never amounted to much.

sk88ParticipantIt is just a stress fracture and in regards to back injuries this is a minor concern, and not a lingering injury. Andre Drummond had a stress fracture in his back at the end of last season and I think everybody can agree he is still a beast. If he slips it will be because big men are historically injury prone, it will have nothing to do with this injury.

omphalosParticipantI hope he still declares so he can slip to the Celtics, I get the feeling Ainge wouldn’t hesitate to take him at the 4 spot.
Drummond had to sit for a large chunk of his rookie year and there’s no sign of trouble now.
Embiid should be fine by the time his rookie year starts.
If Embiid misses the NCAA tournament I wonder if Wiggins will be blamed for Kansas underachieving in the same way Barnes copped the flak for UNC losing without Marshall.

JoeWolf1I’m sure he will among people on this forum, you’re already bringing up that sentiment and almost assuming Kansas will lose a week before any team has played an NCAA tournament game.

omphalosParticipantI should have thrown an "if" in there, but really, Embiid has been a cornerstone to their success, especially defensively. I’m rooting for Kansas to win it all this year because Wiggins is my favourite prospect in this draft, but I’m trying to be realistic about their chances.

JoeWolf1No, I hear you. You’re right, about them running everything through Embiid. It’s going to be a huge adjustment for them, I guess I’m just optimistic Wiggins can take the reins. It’s not going to be easy, though.

For_Never_EverParticipantI fogot Drummond got it. Yeah, he looks completely 100% percent. With the Celtics luck we won’t get a top 3 pick, and I’m hoping he falls right in our laps.

MopgrassParticipantI’ve enjoyed watching most of Kansas games and I’d love to see them win the whole thing, but maybe he should sit the tourney out.

drpg913ParticipantOffense has to run through Wiggins now that Embiid is out. He could have gotten 50 against West Virginia if the had gone to him consistently in the WV game. This injury will make or break Wiggins chance as the No.1 pick.

Memphis MadnessParticipantJabari Parker now has more of a chance to move into the top 2 in the draft.
Picking third in this draft might be the best place to be.

Dale WorthingtonParticipantThat makes zero sense. Why would you ever want a lower/worse pick? The lower the pick, the lesser the opportunity and pool of talent.

tbest23ParticipantOkafor had the same injury in ’04 and returned to lead UCONT to a title. Not saying he’s going to do the same but it’s the spasms that actually keep him out. The stress fracture, once healed will never be a problem in the same area again as the fusion is stronger than it was before. This isn’t a big issue for docs nor team physicians. Just rehab and Coach Self telling the big fella no you can’t go until the docs say you can. I don’t think he’s declaring for the draft anyway this year judging from his comments. Of course when people start talking about millions in his checking account in a few months, some people change their tune.
