The roster is slim for now but imo Randle will start at PF,we’ll see how the Lakers will fill their roster.

He’s a decent backup and for that price he’s a steal.

Seems like a lot of teams overpaid at the start of Free Agency, now the bargains are coming in….

That is how it works, the teams in the begining overpay, then the middle gets the deals, then the teams in  end overpay beacause they scramble to fill the roster

The Lakers have paid ridiculous contracts to Swaggy P and Jordan Hill, now they make a killing with this Davis deal? Dr. Jeykll/Mr. Hyde going on with Jim Buss…that roster is still really poorly constructed though. Davis and Randle will be a good PF rotation, though.

Wild how Jordan Hill ends up with $9M a year and Davis is stuck with $1M. I really can’t wrap my head around the market this year, you’re telling me a player with Davis’ skillet couldn’t find a better deal?

You’re totally right, but do note that Jordan Hill is significantly better than he played last year. Injuries didn’t help and team morale was awful.

As long as Randle gets 30-35 minutes a game I don’t care who we sign.  The best thing for the Lakers and their future is to get him reps.  As of right now the 4 man rotation is Randle, Davis, Hill and Sacre…..  There is a joke in there somewhere.

If all things are equal, meaning no front office pressure to play the guy they are paying 9 mil per year to, I have a feeling that Davis will be getting as many, perhaps more minutes than Jordan Hill.

Depending on the coach I wonder who starts at center?  I have to imagine it will be Hill.

Who the heck is the coach going to be?  I’ve wanted them to get someone new…but at this point might as well go with the recycled coach… most likely B Scott…. blah.

It’s going to be a long season for us Lakers fans, but unlike last year we most likely won’t have the lottery payoff in the end.

I can’t decide if I would rather them be awful enough to get their top 5 pick this year with the incoming prospects… Mudiay, Towns, Okafor, Stan Johnson… or just get over the inevitable and forfeit it to the Suns so we have our anticipatory lottery pick in 2016 when it will almost certainly be known as the Simmons draft.

You should hope they tank. No miracle will catapulting them to playoffs any time soon.

Lin and Randle add just enough competitiveness so that they will have to forfeit their pick, while simultaneously missing the playoffs. I don’t think they can be bottom 5 with Kobe in the game unless he’s a shell of his former self ( unlikely).

If they do get the pick, they might pull a center out of it because there’s a whole lot of PF’s and C’s out there in 2015. They do have the Rockets pick, which might not be too bad of a pick considering they lost Lin, Asik, and Parson (though Ariza makes up for a little of the Parsons loss). Point being, the Rockets will make playoffs, but it might give the Lakers the 18th pick or so.

This is perfect for Ed Davis great decision other then the pay. Team wise its an A for sure. Hhe is now competing for minutes with Randle and Hill in the frontcourt. Davis played a bit of C in Toronto and is a capable "small ball" C although only in certain situations. With the lineup the waybit is currently Hill, Randle, and Davis would be playing alot of minutes. Hill and Davis both have huge oppurtunities to win the most valueable player award.

It’s a great bargain, and Davis can be better than Hill so maybe Hill is overpaid.

Hill is certainly overpaid, but he’s also one of the most overrated players on these boards. He’s never done anything to warrant more than 1mil per.

A guy just entering the prime of his career who brings energy, athleticism and length and averaged 9.7 PPG on 54.9 FG%, 7.4 RPG and 0.9 BPG in just 20.8 MPG last season definitely deserves way more than $1 million a year in today’s market.

His per 36 minute projections over the last three seasons are pretty impressive, including over 12 RPG each year. Does he deserve $9 million per year, maybe not, but anything in the $5-6 million range would have been good value. I realistically expect about 14 PPG, 10 RPG and 1.3 BPG this year and if puts that up I think the Lakers will be fine with the contract they gave him.

davis is capable of getting 14pts/8rbs a game if he’s giving the minutes..im a little surprised that considering the success he had with the raptors they didnt sign him…the lakers really got a steal..

Great deal for both parties in my opinion. Maybe Davis wanted to take less money, showcase himself after being stuck behind Randolph in Memphis, and get a bigger deal next year. (This deal is a player option in the 2nd year).

Regardless if he starts or not this year, he will get alot of minutes with just Randle and Hill ahead of him currently.
On the flip side, Lakers get a very very serviceable big for $1m this year and insurance in case Randle’s foot does not hold up for some reason or another.
