M-EazyParticipantMcKinzie Sewell, 22-year-old married man, played high school basketball, cost team eligibility
In a disturbing incident in Tennessee, a 22-year-old married man allegedly posed as a senior transfer student at one of Memphis’ best boys basketball teams, leading to the squad’s elimination from the state playoffs.
22-year-old McKinzie Sewell competing in high school basketball at Ridgeway High — BeRecruited
As reported by Memphis CBS affiliate WREG and the Memphis Commercial Appeal, McKinzie Sewell used a fake transcript to enroll at Memphis (Tn.) Ridgeway High, where he starred on the boys basketball team. Sewell’s transcript was allegedly submitted to the school by his wife, who posed as his mother so he would have a back story to explain why he was enrolling at the school.Sewell never previously graduated from a high school, but he earned a GED. Somewhat ironically, he wore the number 22 for Ridgeway, identical to his age. He also set up a BeRecruited profile under his name portraying himself as an 18-year-old senior at Ridgeway.
It has not been confirmed whether Sewell registered with the school for the fall or winter term. Regardless, the fact that he had taken the court at all immediately made the entire Ridgeway squad ineligible for the state playoffs, just after the school had reached the regional final round of the tournament.
“It has come to our attention that an ineligible player played in the closing minutes of the Region 8-AAA semi-finals against Whitehaven High School,” Memphis Community Schools said in a statement. “Ridgeway High School reported this information to the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association [TSSAA]. Ridgeway HS has forfeited that game and has been removed from the tournament playoffs.”
That removal has effectively ended the season for a group of players who had overcome significant hardship to reach the state semis. Most notably, one of the team’s assistant coaches was killed in his home in February.
Now the team will have to stay home, with parents of the players furious at the Memphis Community Schools’ inability to catch Sewell before he had suited up for a game.
“It’s absurd the administration has failed,” Adrian Jones, a Ridgeway parent told WREG. “They’re not keeping the kids safe. They’re not doing checks and balances.”
Sewell is not the first imposter to strike the prep hoops ranks. In 2010 a Haitian 22-year-old named Guerdwich Montimere played the high school basketball season at Odessa (Tx.) Permian High. He was eventually caught and sentenced to three years in prison because of a relationship with a teenager while he was at the school.
Now Sewell joins the ranks of Montimere and others in the ranks of disturbing prep imposters who have threatened the safety of the teens they compete with and against.

HaleParticipant^Yeah I sincerely doubt that.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/04/2013 - 10:12am #752375

FastAndFuriousParticipantLMAO these dudes are pathetic, they weren’t that good during their REAL HS days so they come back and play while their grown men and try to dominate…..but the sad part about that is, they’re still not big time prospects lol, NO WAY I’d be 22 years old and not be the #1 player in the country.

KDThunder35ParticipantWiggins would dunk all over your head repeatedly.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/04/2013 - 10:56am #752403
M-EazyParticipant#1 in the country? Nah bro. I’m 26 and I know I’ll never be near the athlete as Wiggins or have near the basketball IQ as Parker.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantAlot of Weird things have been going on at that school..Last month a basketball coach at the school was found dead in his home….And nobody knows who murdered him…..The coach played in high school with Scottie Pippen….

RUDEBOY_ParticipantWhy didnt the guy just try attending a Junior College? And his wife or girlfriend also had to be a LOSER for being involved with this crap….
What were they expecting to come from Lying? If he was good enuff ,there are tons of agents looking to sign players to D-League or overseas contracts….
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/04/2013 - 10:23am #752383

FastAndFuriousParticipantDoubt it?
At 22 years old, my strength, athletic ability, and knowledge of the game would exceed 90% of HS kids, and most of these guys seem to have played back while they were their right age in HS(Guerdwich Montimere, who was a 2 star recruit), I’m working on my game every day for an extra 4 years, you cant be serious, i’d easily be a top 10 player in the country and possibly #1 if not caught.
0- Posted on: Mon, 03/04/2013 - 10:22am #752388

HaleParticipantNo offense, but you’re delusional. You would NEVER be ranked #1. You’re saying you would be on Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parkers level, which is hilarious.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/04/2013 - 10:38am #752397

alingeParticipantSo you are the age of a college senior now, so what you are basically saying is every single college senior now is currently better than Andrew Wiggins or Jabari Parker. Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant and countless other freshman who dominate straight out of high school, proved how flawed your argument is with their 1 year of college ball

SubZeroParticipantLet’s see some highlights

- Posted on: Mon, 03/04/2013 - 10:29am #752387
M-EazyParticipantI just wonder if his wife came to his games. I’d imagine she has to feel weird marrying a man that pretends to be a high school senior at the age of 22. I’m just waiting for the day one of these dudes become highly ranked prospects.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/04/2013 - 10:41am #752394

FastAndFuriousParticipantLOL for one who said it had to be the 2013 Class?
So Jeremy Lin who wasn’t even rated in HS and had no stars by his name coming out of HS, 4 years later was in the NBA
Jimmer Fredette a fringe 2 star prospect is in the NBA 4 years later
A 22 year old that was already playing ball before and had some type of game, and has 4 more years to work on his game to play against HS kids, would dominate and him being a #1 prospect or top 10 player in the country would not be suprising at all.
Take Terry Rozier for example, the guy was rated 80-100 in the country last year as a true senior in HS, his 5th year this year he is now the #3 PG in the country and #15 player overall, you meaning to tell me 3 MORE years of him doing this he wouldn’t be #1 player in the nation? Stop.
0- Posted on: Mon, 03/04/2013 - 10:44am #752402

alingeParticipantYes and Zena Edosomwan went from top 50 recruit, to now the 70th recruit as a 5th year senior. You’re argument is so dumb, yes Lin and Fredette (solid 3 star according to rivals) did improve, people improve at different rates.

PurpleMonkeyDishwasherParticipantThey might’ve even mistaken you for Shaq by after a few years huh?
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/04/2013 - 10:52am #752400

FastAndFuriousParticipantYep possibly lol
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/04/2013 - 11:17am #752413

mbunner23ParticipantThis just shows that no one really understand the type of talent you have to have to be considered a top ten player in the country for your class. I’m 22 years old now and idc how much I have trained since I graduated high school, Wiggins or any other top ten player in high school would drop 50 on you and I both. Not to mention he would slam on me repeatedly. It’s a whole new level, if you were as good as Wiggins or Parker now you’d be playing somewhere.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/04/2013 - 11:26am #752416

FastAndFuriousParticipantBut me and you are not the same, I’ve already stated on here numerous times maybe a year or 2 years back what i did in HS, I was rated in the country and all that, top 15 in my class in my state with D1 offers, no need to bring it all back up or im not trying to brag at all, I just think with an extra 4 years and my athletic ability being at an all time high around 21 or 22, i’d be top 10 or #1, were all not the same type talent on this message board, thats what ppl have to take into consideration as well.
But as I said, who said it had to be 2013? It could have benn 2010,11,12,14,15,16 any year.
But I see who is winning this battle lol and it aint me.
0- Posted on: Mon, 03/04/2013 - 11:22am #752418

NbanflguyParticipantWhy arent you playing somewhere right now then?
0
- Posted on: Mon, 03/04/2013 - 11:55am #752421

FastAndFuriousParticipantCause im done with ball
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/04/2013 - 1:10pm #752449

ASAP HenryParticipantur done with ball, yet claim to have been ranked in your state and had numerous D1 offers. What did u choose to do instead? Post on this site?
0- Posted on: Mon, 03/04/2013 - 1:35pm #752458

alingeParticipantWould like to see your recruiting profile from rivals or scout aswell, just to see who offered you.
0
- Posted on: Mon, 03/04/2013 - 1:32pm #752456

Ghost01ParticipantSeriously, this guy is a walking LOL.
I love the fact that he is so sure he would be the #1 player in the country if he was 22. As if these standout freshies like Durant, Rose, and Wall aren’t immediately better than everyone in the nation, even the 25-26 year olds who play on Miami (Wonder with Kenny Kadji isn’t by far the best player in America?). And I love all this “I was D-1” crap. First off, if I was a D1 talent, I would absolutely tell everyone on this site my name. Go ahead and research me, there I am, there are my stats, blah blah blah. We aren’t 13 year old girls who are going to get raped by pedos if he put our name on a website. And then, you pull the whole “Im done with ball” Top 15 in state, and just decided, Nope, basketball isn’t for me? But I’m going to live and breath posting on a basketball forum? C’mon dawg.

Ny2daDeathOFmeParticipantIf any of yall watch love and hip hop new York, the wife of this guy is Rich dollarz baby mother. I find it crazy that she forged the birth certificit for this guy but then snitches on him after she finds out he mess with a high school girl.

M-EazyParticipantWhere are you getting this from?
0- Posted on: Mon, 03/04/2013 - 2:05pm #752469

Ny2daDeathOFmeParticipantA few hip hop sites are reporting this, like vladtv and mediatakeout. Here’s a link http://mediatakeout.com/m61555/love-and-hip-hop-drama-rich-dollarz-babys-mother-is-caught-up-in-an-high-school-s-x-basketball-and-murder-scandal-wow-now-this-is-juicy.html

frogmanParticipantThis is nuts. “NO WAY I’d be 22 years old and not be the #1 player in the country.”
That’s the most cocky, delusional statement I’ve ever seen on this site. Unless of course you live in the great nation of Andorra then I might think about and still call you delusional.
0- Posted on: Mon, 03/04/2013 - 1:53pm #752468

alingeParticipantJust wait man, European Basketballer’s Andorran brother will be on here soon, telling us about all the great prospects Andorra have and how the racist NBA hates Andorran’s. Strangely enough though I have been to Andorra, the skiing there is the best in the world, they get more skiing tourists each year than they have residents, great place to visit.

M-EazyParticipantThis story is getting even more pathetic. Apparently this “man” only scored 4 points the entire season. So this dude is pretending to be a bum ass high school player? WTF
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/04/2013 - 4:24pm #752532

BasketballJunkie224Participanti know fast n furious got negged a lot but i see what he means. obviously you probably wouldnt be ranked even in the top 100 but an extra few years can definitely make a huge difference. For example, im sure there is a senior at some d3 school somewhere who is probably just as good some senior in hs going low d1. now being one of the elite players in the country probablyyyyy would never happen but it could make a huge difference. Ive seen kids who went to prep school for only 1 year and it got them scholorship offers. As far as the 22 year old who posed as an 18 year old,. i think that the only pathetic thing was that he was married. it isnt something to be proud of but if you know anything about HS/prep basketball then you know that there are kids 22 years old playing legally(well prep post grad at least) . this dude is married so he should go to school/get a job and support his family
0- Posted on: Tue, 03/05/2013 - 4:44am #752650
M-EazyParticipantGive some names of people that are 22 and legally playing high school basketball….doesn’t even sound believable
0
- Posted on: Mon, 03/04/2013 - 4:26pm #752527
LindseyParticipantYeah at first the article said he starred for the team, but he only appeared in the closing minutes? Lol they shouldn’t even give this wierdo the respect of any publication.
On a side-note, this has been a pipe-dream of mine.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/05/2013 - 8:29am #752725

BasketballJunkie224Participanthalf the kids in the nepsac lol…umm do u remember john riek a few years back from winchendon and a few other HS’s? he was definitely like 40 lol but cmon if you think that the oldest senior in america playing HS ball is 18 then you just dont know enough about basketball in america and in general for that matter. Maybe not high school but for a bunch of post grad schools most of the kids on the roster are pretty old. reg hs prob an age limit of 20 but still at that point i see people on here always bash 20 year old college freshmen n sophs lol..its hard to have this conversation with someone who went to a high school where all the kids in the school were the right age. and its hard to talk about this with people who only ‘watch’ coll bball n the nba. if you know about basketball then you know that kids are older. why even have prep schools/jucos/redshirts just THINK about it lol
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/05/2013 - 8:34am #752728

BasketballJunkie224Participantfast and furious may be way off with saying he would be #1 but his posts make a ton of more scence then anyone else negging him. i can see what hes saying. he said he got d1 offers when he was in hs. so lets say its low d1 offers. 4 years later you better believe that theres a good chance that would jump to good d1 offers(power conferences). so when hes saying top 10 in country…maybe not..but maybe. how about if you put a really good player from the maac or A10 right now whos a senior back in hs? he would KILL. people dont understand that basketball and the nba is simply all about oppertunity. its about being in the right place at the right time. so age has a lot to do with it…u think all these young rookies in the nba are better than guys playing overseas? give me a break hell no…i mean some are but …man i cant even keep writing cause i dont think anyones getting the point lol
0- Posted on: Tue, 03/05/2013 - 9:04am #752735

HaleParticipantNo, we understand completely. But just because he’s low level D1 player doesn’t mean he’ll be better then Shabazz Muhammad with that extra 4 years, especially when he isn’t actually playing games during that span. Then you’d have to consider how he projects to the next level because that’s taken into account as well. You’re also assuming that because he was a low-level recruit that he was successful in college, when he could’ve ridden the bench or quit a year in.
Here is an example: A guy named Ethan Wragge went to my high school. He was ranked in the top 10 in his class for our state. He’s now a redshirt junior for Creighton averaging around 8 ppg, would he be a top 10 player in the upcoming class? No, he’d maybe be top 100. Even if you go to a talent-loaded state like California, half the guys in their top 10 wouldn’t be ranked in top 10 for the nation today, and nearly all the guys who would are in the NBA.
0
- Posted on: Tue, 03/05/2013 - 2:30pm #752826

FastAndFuriousParticipantThats why I stopped writing they dont understand what im saying, and I didn’t just have low major offers, I had Mid Majors as well,I was what one coach called me a Mid Major + prospect, where if i would have hit the weights(I was 155 my junior year) and gained about 10-15 pounds I would have easily been a high major recruit, but im glad you understood where I was coming from.
Y2G, it’s 2 ways it can always play out, Ethan Wragge way or an AJ Matthews way, who is at a D3 tearing it up averaging 22 and 14 and getting NBA looks born in 1989, now if he was a senior in HS RIGHT NOW at 7-1 you dont think he’d be #1 or top 10???? And he was a low major prospect coming out!
Exactly.
0- Posted on: Tue, 03/05/2013 - 2:38pm #752838

alingeParticipantWhat schools offered you and did you have a recruiting profile on rivals or scout or espn. Not saying you are lying or anything before anyone says that, but I am just interested
0
- Posted on: Tue, 03/05/2013 - 2:48pm #752842

FastAndFuriousParticipantAs I said in a post earlier, I’ve posted about me and where you can find everything you want to know on this site before go thru the archives, it’s still on here you just have to find it, if you want to know that bad.
And to the ones who are trying to make jokes on why I stopped playing ball lol that’s funny I got negged because I said I stopped playing, you dont know anything about me and my life, and what made me quit basketball, it’s people who damn near made it to the league who have quit playing ball for personal reasons so they’re morons as well huh?J ust cause I was good and all that dont mean I cant just wanting to stop playing ball. I could have been burned out from playing ball so much, maybe I hated school, maybe I got injured, maybe I had kids and decided to work instead of chasing a dream, some of you need to really grow up, dont get this forum confused with real life.
0- Posted on: Tue, 03/05/2013 - 2:47pm #752848

alingeParticipantSorry man I didn’t mean to come across as rude, I apologise if I crossed a line, I was just interested. Don’t worry I am not tragic enough to go looking through the archives.

Yandyhere2ParticipantWell said fastandfurious.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/05/2013 - 2:59pm #752852

FastAndFuriousParticipantNaw I wasn’t reffering to you in the second part, that was to everyone else who had jokes or negged me, when I said I don’t hoop no more.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/05/2013 - 5:51pm #752917

PurpleMonkeyDishwasherParticipantYou’ve got to lighten up… the 14 yr olds will give you negs for no reason. What have you lost by it? They frustrated you so you did exactly what they did and you bombed them back… no big deal.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/05/2013 - 5:55pm #752923

FastAndFuriousParticipantI didn’t bomb back at all, all I explained was you cant judge someone else’s life decisions, I didn’t put anyone else down or anything of that nature.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 03/06/2013 - 2:32pm #753114

BasketballJunkie224Participantfats and furious, idk what your current situation is right now man but you should try to play somewhere. worst thing in life is wasted talent
0 - Posted on: Wed, 03/06/2013 - 2:40pm #753118

FastAndFuriousParticipantI got two years left, I might, IDK
But my whole thing is this and ima leave this situation alone, I play with a guy every sunday in a rec league who was ranked in the 2006 class a top 5-10 player at his position in the country and a top 30-50 player overall in the country depends on who rankings you go by and im from Detroit so you know who im talking about if you put two and two together, he was supposed to go to the NBA, played 2 years in college and everything and now he doesn’t even play to accomplish anything, he just plays to play, things happen in peoples life, and it doesn’t always turn out how you expect.
0- Posted on: Wed, 03/06/2013 - 3:04pm #753124

alingeParticipantRamar Smith I presume, I remember he was really good as a Freshman at Tennessee, went off the rails a bit if I remember right.
0

FastAndFuriousParticipantYep
Real good player still, but things happen in people’s life, everybody cant make it to the NBA or in basketball period.
