So i haven’t been on in a while but now i’m back getting to the bussiness of basketball and throwing in a shamwow quote when approiprate.
My first question is who is currently the front runner right now for most improved player?
Now i don’t know how they do it but even though his only played 28 games in his NBA career before this year his stats have rose like crazy
Min FG% 3pt% FT% off def rpg apg spg bpg tpg TO Pts
    08-09 14.7 0.448 0.444 0.963 0.5 1.5 2.0 0.5 0.5 0.1 0.54 1.71 6.1
    09-10 28.9 0.459 0.448 0.857 0.7 3.5 4.2 1.4 0.7 0.5 1.46 2.31 14.2

But if its to soon then my votes JJ redick
Min FG% 3pt% FT% off def rpg apg spg bpg tpg TO Pts
    08-09 17.4 0.391 0.374 0.871 0.1 1.6 1.7 1.1 0.3 0.0 0.84 1.12 6.0
    09-10 26.6 0.427 0.441 0.875 0.1 2.4 2.5 2.5 0.3 0.0 0.57 2.29 10.1
+ he just came of a 19 point 5 assist 2 rebound performance which is yet to be calulated

    So who are yours??

the first one seems to be danilo gallinari, even though he is having a solid sophomore season you cannot consider him as the most improved since this is the first time in his career he is playing healthy so in a way this is his rookie year.

I’m in agreement with those who suggested sophomores shouldn’t count. Two sophomores worth considering, though, are Marreese Speights and Ryan Anderson.

Here are a few other names to throw out there, in order of how I’d rank them:

    1. Chris Bosh: I know superstars generally don’t win "Most Improved," but Bosh has made the LEAP this year. He’s up to 27 and 12, both career highs, and shooting better than ever before, too, including a few 3-pointers.
    2. Will Bynum: The Thrill fits this guy too well. He’s undersized but his heart is huge and his explosiveness translates. He’s doubled last season’s point total and kept his turnovers low and shooting percentage high.
    3. Josh Smith: Here’s another guy I think will get bypassed because he was established before this season. But Smith’s rebounds, assists and shooting percentage are up, along with his general per-minute productivity.
    4. Channing Frye: I’m still not a big fan of Frye. He’s too soft. But Frye seems rejuvenated in Phoenix, and he’s been an integral part of the offense. He’s playing better than he has since his rookie year, when he showed so much promise.
    5. Shelden Williams: Just as this award isn’t going to a previously established star, it won’t go to a guy averaging 15 minutes per game. But Williams has finally found his fit on a Celtics team where he can be tough, rebound and defend and not worry about anything else. He’s playing at a significantly higher level than he ever has in the past.

Channing Frye. . . He fits perfectly to the Phoenix Suns style of play and he’s a product of Arizona.

wow, no mention of chris kaman. he is definitely the front runner right now. 20.9 ppg, 8.5 rpg, 1.6 bpg, and 1.9 apg. last year he averaged 12.0 and 8.0 – definitely should be number one right now. how can u argue against it. if u go from 15th man to 5th starter its not going to win u the award. if u go from fringe starter to all star well than yea u have a good shot at the award.

Hibberts teammate D jones is having a breakout year offensively averaging like 16-17 pts a game compared to like nothing last year and is still playing that good d

CDR, I’ve been saying it all season, but he gets passed over because his team is awful. He has continued to up his stats all year, now he is at 18.1 per game and has been dropping over 20 per night since his bout with the swine flu. His rebounding is impressive too for a perimeter guy this last week he had games of 27 and 12 and 31 and 10. He averaged 4.9 ppg and 1.1 rpg last year! By stats alone CDR has increased his ppg output by 13.2 and his rebounding by 4.4!

I also have a problem including sophomores. It’s just too easy to give it to a guy who is entering their second year becuase they are supposed to improve and see more minutes. Here are some candidates:

Chris Kaman(although he has been very good in the past and is more healthy now then anything)

Channing Frye(although I agree with Quincey that he has always had talent and is just getting minutes now)

Jared Dudley(I didn’t think this guy should even be in the nba last season, now he is one of the top bench players on the suns)

Martell Webster(only played 5 minutes last year and is now a solid rotation player)

Joakim Noah(he’s already a better player then I thought he would ever be)

Dahntay Jones(now he plays offense as well and is major contributor at both ends)

Will Bynum(he’s making it hard to keep him off the court with his play)

JJ Redick(just looks so much more confident out there and handles the ball better then I thought he would coming out of college)

I’d give it to Redick or Frye right now..

But a sleeper is Ersan Ilyasova for the Bucks..
Hes averaging 10/7 right now.. and has 20 in 3 quarters tonight,
He average 6 ppg, 3 rpg last year

I’d say Hibbert right now. I honestly thought he’d be a bust coming out of Georgetown. He just didn’t seem like he had the physicality to play in the NBA, but he’s really done a great job thus far. He isn’t explosive by any means, but he moves well and has great length.

Perez, Webster was actually playing better two years ago, before his injury.

He has a case for Comeback Player of the Year.
