With guys out there like J.Johnson,D.Blair,and Samuels coming down the pipe. Do you think these guys can breakout and show that guys that size belong? I’ve noticed lately that G.M’s don’t want to pass on the next David West. People daughted J.Maxiell and L.Powe but these guys have exceeded expectations.I feel like there is a market for these kind of 4 men it helps when teams play small against you because you have a guy that can matchup,and if a team plays big you might have a slight quickness advantage.Besides it seems that players this size are more assertive than some of the more prototypical bigmen that have been coming into the league lately. They seem to rebound and defend just as hard,but I realize that for every David West there is a Ike Diogu. But for every Dwight Howard there is a C.Taft.

I think paul Millsap is another good example, not so polished overall but gifted atheltically, but has an incredible hustle.

as for undersized 4s, they need to be strong and atheltic to succed, or very gifted in the skillset department.

Its me or when the time advances is harder to find big men, i mean the real skilled 7 footers? they were more commonly found in the past decades.

The real skilled bigmen want to shoot from the perimeter and be small forwards it seems. Do you think they would have had 6’11 SG like K.Durant,back in the day he would have played on the inside. but things are different now with the influence of European basketball. I wish we could get our old school big men back.

I like the scrap he plays with could be a rotation guy in the league,if he continues to play hard and improve. Hard not to respect a guys game that gives everything he’s got at all times. Might end up being better than Hansborough when all is said and done.

I feel that Patirck Patterson, James Johnson, and Blake Griffin will all have solid pro careers. The only thing is, for some reason, I can envision Blake’s knee injury to reoccur in his NBA career, which would probably strip him of his athleticism and limit his potential.

I agree Griffin is one knee injury from being just a decent player in the league,would probably have the same affect that it had on Mcdyess and Webber. In the case of Dyess it made him expand his game,as for Webber we see what that got him. A desk job on NBATV. So hopefully Griff will work on his overall game and not just depend on being a superior athlete.

I wouldn’t call Blake Griffin a undersized 4man. He is 6’9-6’10 250lbs. That is not a small power forward

The thing all of these undersized 4s in the NBA have in common is that they have great rebounding ability, and based on that criteria, I would put Pitt’s DeJuan Blair at 1, UK’s Pat Patterson at 2, and probably UNC’s Deon Thompson at 3. He’s having a breakout year at UNC, and he is one guy who is gonna rise up draft boards very soon IMO.

David West is a nice player but I don’t think the undersized Power Forward wins Championships.
I think he is the reason they can’t beat the Spurs.
I see David West like an Elton Brand in his prime.

Those guys get the numbers but they usually have no impact on the actual win.
I would put Al Jefferson and Zach Randolph in that class also.
Good players but hhow many winning teams have these guys played on while they were the best player on there team. Those undersized PF’s do not bring the defense and the block shots you need.

They are all the same player. Yet there teams normally don’t compete for a Chip.
David West is Karl Malone as Paul is to Stockton. They will be there but if they don’t ever get a two guard who can break down the defense they will never win chip.

I’m a former Sixers fan who was looking forward to this year until Stefansky decided to spend 185 million on three players that will never be considered superstars in the league.
Brand. 80 mil. Iggy 80 mil. Williams 25 mil.

I was enraged about the Brand signing. Who spends a 185 million for a chance to be in third palce.

The scary thing is Stefansky actually expected the Sixers to be better than Cleavland.

Al Jefferson is 6-foot-10. And the mere concept of David West being Karl Malone is absurd. As is the idea that Malone and Stockton weren’t winners just because they came against the greatest player ever.

But the one important thing to realize about players like Paul Millsap is they succeed in large part because their wingspans and athleticism allow them to overcompensate for a lack of height. Otherwise, they’d just be Danny Fortson/Reggie Evans, both rebounding machines who struggled to do anything else in their NBA careers.

Blair, in my opinion, is a prime candidate for this type of player. He can defend all the way out to the wing if necessary, he’s incredibly strong and his wingspan is close to 7-foot-3.

I love north carolina and love what tyler hansbrough’s all about, but he is an ugly basketball player. Hansbrough will be great, GREAT in the nba as a sixth man/energy player, possibly just a real good player. If millsap can produce like he does then i have no doubt that hansbrough will be a solid pro. Harangody will be a very similar player, maybe better, then again both could turn out to be horrible, im bein optomistic. Both players fill a niche that all nba teams desire, golden state has turiaf, boston has leon powe, dallas has brandon bass, detroit has jason maxiell, utah has millsap, and the bucks have an up and coming tweener in joe alexander.

For me both these guys will have a solid NBA career.

Very strong physically, with good post game… Adrien he’s a better free throw shooter, and has developed a good mid range game.
