According to the Grizzlies message board per Chris Vernon, D.J. Stephens is going to play for the Miami Heat Summer League Team. Great worker, awesome motor and freak athlete.

DJ, LeBron, Wade, Birdman all on the same team? Plus Bosh and Chalmers and former Grizzlies Battier and Mike Miller? I am thinking about getting Heat season tickets!

The Heat also picked up James Ennis via trade so I think they had a nice draft night/rookie pickup.

I don’t think the other contenders helped themselves that much, although the Nets did add some more (over the hill) pieces and the Grizzlies ended up with Jamaal Franklin along with Kosta Koufos in the Darrell Arthur trade.

The Heat added two young athletes on the wing to run with their Big Three. Hopefully they resign Birdman who is PERFECT for them.

Chalmers, Wade, LeBron, D.J. Stephens, and Birdman might just be the scariest fast break unit in the history of the NBA.

    Good luck to D.J.!

He has a great motor and fantastic athleticism but let’s face it, he isn’t worth anything as a basketball player. Stephens is essentially a 6’5 power forward. He didn’t become a regular for Memphis until his senior season and he still only player 23 mpg.

In my opinion he is a 13th man. I think that spot now is between him and James Ennis. D.J. Stephens might be a D League guy early on, but I think he can bring you a spark off the bench. He’s a guy that just playing time to get better. Besides that, he needs to develop the corner 3. Stephens has late second round talent, with late first round upside.

Ennis is a good pickup too. I think that either one of those guys would fit in with the Big Three and Chalmers. Or the Birdman, Ray Allen, Battier, and Norris Cole second unit.
