Jordan Hill was their 8th overall pick in the 2009 draft. They traded him to houston before the season was over along with a draft pick and jared jeffries for tmac since they wanted tmac’s expiring deal. I have seen a number of people call him a bust on here. Obviously the knicks had better options at the number 8 pick where there were a bunch of pg’s like jennings, collison, holiday and lawson available. But since they did go with hill, maybe they should have stuck with him a little longer.

As soon as he arrived in houston last year he showed some solid defense even blocking 5 shots in one game. Now this year in season number 2, he has surpassed brad miller, chuck hayes and pattrick paterson for minutes as the first big man off the bench behind yao and scola.

In the last 3 games he has averaged 26 minutes with 8.3ppg…6.3rpg…2.3blocks and shooting solid numbers from both the field and ft line.

I think they did for sure, he’s a guy I’ve kinda followed since he came in the league and he’s shown some solid improvement even at the end of last season and he is a guy who as he gets older and bulks up a bit will be able to give his team minutes at power forward and center.  I really think by year 3 or 4 he will be a just short of an all-star caliber player ( you know the 15 ppg 8 or 9 2 block type power forwards )

Yeah, d’antoni didnt give him enough of a chance. I remember right after the trade someone asked d’antoni if he had a problem playing rookies in refernece to hill and he said he had no problem playing rookies if they were any good. That was a cheap shot on hs part.

I think the issue with Hill in NY was the lack of playing time for many reasons. He was stuck behind Lee and Harrington, naturally, but also Jeffries. Not to knock Jeffries, but Hill should have been seeing minutes over him, but the fact was they needed to show that Jeffries was a good rotation player in order to be able move his contract for the summer of 2010. I also believe Hill was drafted because he wasn`t as high of a risk as someone like Derozan or Jennings, since he had three years at Arizona, compared to shakey years at USC and Europe for Derozan and Jennings, respectively. They took what was considered the best player available in order for teams to be more interested. I think the second he was drafted the Knicks knew he was going to be packaged with a bad contract to free up cap space. With that in mind, there was no reason for the Knicks to develop him or give him steady play time. It`s a shame though, I hate seeing young guys like that being put in situations where they will never be able to show their worth.

There are tons of power forwards in the league that are just as good as hill or better.  I would take Favors over him right now and Favors is the rookie while Hill the 2nd year player.  That trade had issues for other reasons but losing Hill was not that big of a deal.  I think Randolph is better than Hill but maybe I am wrong.

Well they gave up on him becaz they wanted to move Jeffries contract more than anything.

He’s not a stud player but might end up being a nice role player, he’s a good rebounder and shot blocker.

The thing I like most about Hill besides his flashes of explosive finishing ability, is his fearlessness when it comes to seeking out contact. He’s not very strong in his core yet, but he has an impressive frame and he will be a good player when gets stronger. I could see him as a 14 and 8 player down the line.

i dont know what the deal was with hill tonight. he came in 6 minutes into the game as the first big off the bench and played the last 6 minutes of the first quarter and first 2 miutes of the second quarter but didnt reenter until the final 30 seconds of the game finishing with just 9 minutes. He looked solid while he was out there.

Bad Start, Tough Loses, Yao hobbled and recently injured, Brooks out for 4weeks, Battier aging, Martin looking average, Scola over extending himself early on….It looks like a Top 10 Pick Year for the Rockets who have a lot of questions to answer in the offseason…I the west a start like this is hard to overcome…
