RUDEBOY_ParticipantI thought my eyes were playing tricks on me..When i read that Rick Pitino said St. John’s will win the Big East..
But In an annual vote of Big East coaches to determine this season’s conference schedule..
Louisville coach went out on a limb and predicted The Redmen will win The Big East..
Some coaches had them as low as number 13 in the conference..
Pitino said his choices came down to Pitt,Nova & Cincy..He said he wanted to pick Cincy but didn’t want to put that much pressure on his former asst.Cronin who is with the Bearcats now..
Pitino said he finally decided on St. John’s becuz they’re returning 9 seniors..And they have great chemistry and experience..and most of the top teams lost key players..0 - Posted on: Tue, 08/31/2010 - 9:39am #390990

JNixonParticipantThey have experience, but those are all players that were on below average teams. St. Johns has an outside shot at the tourny, but they aren’t better than Pitt, Villanova, Syracuse, West Virginia or Georgetown. They also probably won’t be better than teams like Seton Hall, Notre Dame or Marquette. They seem like an NIT team to me, which is what they were last season too

JNixonParticipantI think Pitt is taking the Big East. It’ll be between Pitt or Villanova, with G’Town having an outside shot

sammybuckeye13ParticipantI’d take Syracuse over Georgetown. By now people might know that I go to Syracuse, and that Syracuse hates Georgetown, but I hope which I hope you’ll see my point as being objective. Georgetown has incredible guards. Wright and Freeman are awesome (Freeman was actually one of my fave players in the country last year). But I just don’t think they have what it takes down low. They might have to play a 3-guard lineup as Jason Clark is easily their third best returning player, meaning they would have 6-4 Freeman at small forward. And then they don’t have any reliable bigs. Their only two decent returning forwards, Julian Vaughn and Hollis Thompson, combined to contribute just 12.2 points and 6.6 rebounds last year, and neither is by any means a true center. Meanwhile, Cuse has an extremely solid front line (Joseph, Jackson, Melo) to counter Georgetown’s guards from a talent perspective, while their guards (Scoop and Triche) dwarf Vaughn and Thompson from a productivity perspective, combining to average 17.2 and 7.1 last year. Meanwhile, Syracuse has ESPN’s #14 and 15 recruits (Melo and Dion Waiters), while Georgetown has just the #48 and 76. I’m not arguing against Pitt or Nova, but I think if Georgetown is there, Syracuse should be in the discussion.

JNixonParticipantYeah you’re right. Left them out on accident. I still think Pitt or Villanova will win though. No real need to care about who comes in 3rd or 4th place though honestly

tigers04ParticipantI can see where pitino is comin from, I see a lot of the redstorm games and u like their chances of being a top 5 team in the big east..they are athletic, play pretty good defense on the perimeter and down low, have several shooters and have a go to guy in dj kennedy, and to top it off have a great coach in lavin so I agree with some of them being top 5 in the big east and hope they win it

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantBy now people might know that I go to Syracuse
No way, I’m going next year!
I think Syracuse takes it but I could see Pitt take it as well. The thing with SU is you lose 3 players ( Johnson, Rautins, Arinze) so we have to see how the 3 who will take his place ( Joseph, Mookie and Melo) do in there place. Also, we have to see who’s coming off the bench and taking Joesph’s spot.
