Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantAre these players deserving of a max deal or near a max deal?
-Al Horford
-Russell Westbrook
-Kevin Love
-Eric Gordon
-Tyreke Evans

sbealer22ParticipantHorford is probably a near max, but he is a big so he will get a Max
I put Westbrook, Love, and Gordon in the same category. They will be Max players, but need another year with the same Numbers. Also with Gordon, he needs to prove he can stay healthy
Evans is in a Sophmore slump somewhat. Lets see what happens next year before we decide on him

ilike.panochasParticipantWestbrook and Love are borderline franchise players to me. Those are the only two I would give max contract to.

kanyedabestParticipantKevin Love is a not a franchise player. Ya he a double- double machine for the timberwolves who are a disgrace to the nba from ownership to gm to players on court performances. If he is the best player on your team, well I feel sorry for your team cause your probably not gonna make the playoffs.

PHILA9ParticipantA part of me questions Kevin Love if he can do what he did on a winning team..

thunderbear82ParticipantThe hawks will give Horford the max I’m not sure if he deserves it. Westbrook and Love both deserve it in my opinion there both all-stars and put up as good numbers as anyone else that gets the max. If gordan explodes next season then Yes, if he doesn’t then No. Evans is too early to tell.

ghettosermonParticipantAl Horford signed an extension thru 2016 which will pay him 12 mil annually, so the question is kind of irrelevant for him.

goneParticipantI’m gonna say only Evans assuming he gets a jumper and a left hand

TallmanNYCParticipantKeep in mind that guys like Rudy Gay, Rashard Lewis, a quickly aging Joe Johnson are all getting "max" money. It isn’t that much money (to an NBA team, lots of money to me). And it is worth it to pay that much to a yearly all star even if he isn’t going to make you a champion. All those guys have that kind of potential. Way to early to tell with Evans. Especially so since he didn’t make a jump in play from rookie to sophmore.

ilike.panochasParticipantPeople don’t realize that Kevin Love is already a 22-15 guy and he is still 22 years old. His post up game is still improving, and I can see him increasing his PPG as the years go by. I would have no problem starting my franchise with him as my best player. He is still getting better believe it or not.

doubledribblerParticipantNone of them deserve max deals to this point. Horford has already signed an extension. Westbrook will get one based on what he is expected to become, though I think he is closer than most would notice. Technically his numbers are pretty similiar to Rose and they are about pretty even on efficiency at this point. Love will get one by being Minnesota’s best player. They never get free agents so if they can get a guy that is even a borderline allstar then they will be happy with throwing money at him. Gordon is becoming a really nice player, but with the talent at guard, he’s a guy that could never make an all star team. Evans is in a slump so you have to see if he adjusts. Not even sure he is better than Gordon, so I’m going to say no though the Kings could end up in the same point as the T Wolves and throw money out to keep a guy.

HitsterParticipantWestbrook merits a deal just below max as KD was given a max deal and I don’t see Westbrook at his level yet but he’ll get a very good offer this summer surely.
K-Love I would give a 5 year $70 million deal something like Andrew Bogut got a few years ago if you want a similar deal, he hasn’t helped the team really win but is a stats freak so this has to be considered.
Eric Gordon merits an offer of $60 to $65 million over 5 years as the Clippers will surely have to max out Blake Griffin in due course and this reflects Eric’s contribution to the team.
Tyreke Evans is still a year off a deal and a lot can happen in that time look at O.J Mayo whose value has gone down, Aaron Brooks was sitting pretty for a big deal last summer but this year was traded away.
As regards Al Horford, I do like level amount deals like the one Shaq took with Miami a few years ago, sure he wasn’t the same player at the end of the deal but it stops teams having guys on over $25 million in their mid to late 30’s and offers a player a long term option.

TyroberParticipantAl Horford is an allstar, but he is not a max player.
You better believe Sam Presti will be knocking on Westbrooks doors at 12:01 offering him the max money on his contract.
Kevin Love will get max money if he stays with the Wolves, but I dont think he is worth it. He is going to grab rebounds, but he isnt going to lead his team to victory
Eric Gordon is a nice player, but not a max player
Tyreke Evans is a good player and could end up being a max player, but not yet.

immaletufinishbutParticipantWestbrook is easily a max player, he has the exact same numbers as drose and im sure he will get a max. I am thinking tyreke will pick up his play next year after his injury heals and become a star and the rest are very good but I wouldnt max them out………………….#imaybeimaybewrong

natedogggParticipanti would say none of them are genuine max contract guys, but they will recieve that or close to it.

SteroidParticipantI think a guy who can’t be a first option on a playoff team shouldn’t be a max player. I don’t think any of those guys are max deals just yet. In the future they could be though. All of them except Horford have the potential to be a max player 2-3 years down the line. 21-22 years old is just too young to lock a player down on a max deal.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 04/07/2011 - 5:06am #518987

HitsterParticipantThe Thunder will have so many guys coming off rookie deals in the next few years that they will have to watch what they offer each of them to try and keep the locker room happy. Sam Presti gave Nick Collinson a larger deal this season to allow him to take less for the next few years. With Jeff Green moved on and Perkins perhaps retained for less than Green would have got, it may give them a bit of flexability to keep the cap in trim.
A lot may depend on what sort of length deal someone like Westbrook might accept, if he would take a 5 or 6 year deal then there is a case for offering him something near max. If they took a 4 year deal with a team option like LeBron, Bosh and D-Wade did then I would figure the offer should not be so generous. Loyalty should surely be rewarded.
