Evan did you even watch the video or listen the host voice his opinion on what has been happening in Chicago lately?

Yes this was a kind gesture by Rose, but the events taking place in Chicago breach far deeper than a ballplayer paying for a funeral service where he was killed by his own.

What the hell is wrong with Chicago youth? What entices the community to view people like Chief Keef as a role model? He is an ignorant person as there can be, and does nothing to benefit himself or those around him.

It seems instead of the phrase increase the peace, they have donned an ideology of solving everything through violence. The host makes a good point by calling out Rose, yes he has done a lot in the Chicago area, but why not be the leading voice to cancel out what some of these kids view as a neccessity.

It’s just all bad right now in the Chi right now, and I hope it gets better before it gets worse.

    This is sad.

I get the point this guy is trying to make, but I don’t like how he’s delivering it.

He has a point about Derrick Rose too. I’ve seen Rose throwing up gang signs in pictures.

Not gonna lie I’m from Saginaw Mi and its just like that out here just on a smaller scale. Luckily guys like J Rich Draymond green Lamar Woodley do do things for the community but at the end of the day it takes more than athletes donating money to stop things like this to stop happening in places like the Chi, Detroit, Flint MI, Saginaw, St. Louis, Gary…it takes a community taking a stand against this sort of thing. I give D Rose alot of credit for at least acknowledging the issues in his community and caring enough to get emotional over it. hopefully it might inspire change ya never know

Derrick Rose did a great thing by paying for the funeral of this guy and its not just on Derrick Rose’s shoulders to save Chicago, because he is only one person and more people have to do their part. Yet, at the same token, you cant be throwing up gang signs, and represnting your hood, but then get sentimental when things happen. Either you are all for it or all against it. Rose seems like a good guy, and like I said he cant save Chicago alone, but he does need to take a public stance against the violence and not influence it with his own street mentality.

Its not just Rose, but many athletes that we admire do nothing for other people or their community. What did Michael Jordan ever do for Chicago? Nothing but sell the $200 shoes that people couldnt afford. I admire Shaq, Chris Webber, and Marbury, for just trying to produce something people could afford.

Yall are failing to realize that D Rose is from that Neighborhood, Englewood and so is Anthony Davis LIke literally down the street.. Chi Town is rough i heard. Just like the other side where Evan Turner and Lupe Fiasco grew up near Madison. And D Wade, Tony Allen, Mike Finley, The Pargos, D Miles and Q Rich and Iman Shumpert are also from Chi Town. talent has def came out of that city but its going thru rough times

I’m from the Chi and that scene was just a straight up embarassment.  They’re making a mockery of that boy’s funeral.

I agree with some of that guy’s sentiments, but I think he’s only expressing his views in a certain manner so he can get hits.

As for the comments above, Derrick doesn’t have a "street mentality." He might’ve grown up in the center of the GD universe. He mostly likely was affiliated and protected by them, since it was unavoidable, but Derrick was never a street dude.  He’s a mama’s boy who was sheltered by his older brothers.  He HAD that strong family foundation that a lot of these wayward Chi-town youths lack. I don’t expect him to be a strong voice in the community because he’s not a strong voice, period.  He’s got the respect and admiration, but he doesn’t have the voice.

That’s true, but if he can speak for an Obama DNC fundraiser, he can speak towards a bigger issue in his own community.

He doesn’t really have a loud voice, but a few words would go a long way with the youth.

I’m not talking about his literal voice.  Basically,  I tried to put it out there in the nicest way possible that Derrick is not a good speaker, nor is he the most articulate or thoughtful guy either.  If he does something for the community it’ll most likely be through fundraising or donations, but not anything where he has to take a social stance, voice his opinion and back up his stance.
