LeroyJenkinsParticipantHe might be the first mvp to never make the hall of fame
It’s been time to discuss this.

ChoppyParticipantHe’s never been my favourite player (playing for Chicago and New York will do that), but to be fair injuries have played a significant part in his decline. Compare him to later years Tim Duncan. The big fundamental was able to contribute in many different ways after his athleticism left him because of his extremely high basketball IQ. Rose has never been as cerebral a player and once he was injured, he didn’t have the basketball IQ to adapt his game. Compare him again to Jason Kidd. In his later years, Kidd worked on his 3pt shot because he couldn’t play like he used to. Rose either can’t (or won’t) adapt. He’s now a shell of who he used to be.

TRC1991ParticipantMight be? Derrick Rose career went up in flames faster than anyones. He used to be so nasty before the injuries. Injuries will do that to guys. Ask Bill Walton

Lebron’s HairlineParticipantHe also never evolved his game with all the time off the court, he could’ve easily been more productive if he actually found a three point shot and became a better playmaker. Guys like CP3 and Steph have been banged up but are still crazy productive due to not relying on insane athleticism or physical tools.

holefillers1ParticipantI think Grant Hill could have been in the same boat. He got injured before his career took off. Resurrected his game in the second half of his career but never got a chance to show the whole package.

SubZeroParticipantWhen talking about guys plagued with injuries I’ll never not think of Penny and get emotional

OhCanada-ParticipantIt may sound cruel but I think this is what Leroy Jenkins is looking for. Some of the blame has to be on Derrick Rose. I know injuries are unpredictable but theres ways to prevent and treat them and I truly feel Rose neglected his preperation and rehab. Theres been alot of players that were able to come back from ACL and meniscus tears and regain thier explosion.
I wouldnt be surprised if there were times when Rose played through injuries unaware. You can stretch out your legiments without tearing them which feels similar to a cramp and if your tough you could play right through thinking its just sore it until it rips. I did that. No offense to Derrick but hes never seemed like the brightest guy either lol. He also gets a ton of strained muscles which is usually lack of hydration and lots of ankle sprains which many people think is unpreventable but your more likely to jam your ankle on someones foot if your not paying attention to where your landing/stepping. Those are tough though.
Look Lebron as an example. He did not come into the league 6’8 260. He was what? around 6’7 220 right. But he works on his body nonstop he eats the right way and now he is made of steel. KD’s injury with the player falling into him and injuring him..that would never happen to Lebron. Guys just deflect off of him. Alot of people just write that off and dont give him credit as if he was just born durable. Thats not how it works. The guys in the gym.
My bad Pooh I had to go in Leroys been waiting!

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantIt’s a close call between him and bill Walton. At least Walton has 2 championship rings on his resume though.

BasterdInABasketParticipantHe’s played pretty well this year, take away his threes and he’s been pretty efficient and has become a knockdown ft shooter. Never been a huge fan just being a Bucks fan but hope he develops a jump shot this offseason and finds a role in a good team. Not every player has the personality of Westbrook, and rose is the polar opposite personality wise but I’m rooting for him especially after all the injuries.
As holefillers said (ridiculoust name btw lol) he coulda got hurt pre MVP and never been one of the best players for a while or he could have been Brandon Roy or Greg Oden. Say they were heathy right now they might be HoF bound, all about timing for injuries, and he’s still got a chance to develop as a player.

HitsterParticipantD-Rose seems to be a 17-18ppg player post injury and to be fair he has played a decent amount of games the past couple of years, so his durability seems to be getting better.
However he has never really taken his game back to his MVP level apart from an odd game.
Like a lot of you above, I feel he is missing a trick not developing his 3 point shot – look at frontcourters Al Horford, Paul Millsap and Marc Gasol who have worked on their 3 point shooting and developed a range when they were older than what D-Rose is now and they are huge frontcourt guys who you may not expect to have perimeter shooting in their skillset.

morestealsthanscoresParticipantwhat’s funny though is how quickly perceptions can change in this league – look at JR Smith for the most recent example – he was pretty much regarded about as highly as Javale McGee a few years before his Cavs run.
Ponder this – Rose is clearly prideful, insisting he’s worth a max, etc etc etc. But what would happen if this year or in a couple of years he swallowed his prize and signed onto a contender – the Warriors, the Cavs, the Spurs – as a sixth man?
All of a sudden he goes from one of the worst starters in the league to one of the best backups. He’s surronded by shooters and in a great defensive system, so those issues matter less. He’s got no pressure to be ‘the guy’ or even to play extended minutes – just to add value when he does.
All of a sudden, he’s talked about in a very different light!

HitsterParticipantD-Rose only turns 29 this year, he is still good enough to play significant minutes on a team and I’d assume he’d see himself as a starter still. With last year’s contract explosion, it’s hard to work out what D-Rose’s market value is, I’d have said it was less than this current deal but then you see Allen Crabbe, Mosgov etc getting big deals last summer and I’m sure D-Rose thinks he’s worth more than they are.
D-Rose had a number 1 pick salary, got a big extension, must have decent off court earnings so he could look to get on a contender if he wanted to as chasing salary shouldn’t be an issue for him.
