- Teague sliced and diced opposing defenders, found his way into the lane with relative ease, and showcased an intuitive understanding of the various ways to attack off a ball screen. One play in particular stood out: About 30 feet from the hoop in the corner of the court — picture where Duke ran its spread high-screen sets for Kyrie Irving and Nolan Smith this season — Teague got a screen from fellow Kentucky freshman Anthony Davis. The guard split the two defenders, took off toward the rim, saw help arrive and dished a nifty little bounce pass to Davis, who crashed toward the basket and finished with a ferocious dunk. The play was as impression a piece of team basketball as I saw all weekend, and Teague deserved the credit for its creation.
- Florida freshman-to-be Bradley Beal was also on hand at the Deron Williams camp. Beal has been touted as a pure shooter, and he showcased a bit of that ability Saturday afternoon. But he was arguably most impressive off the ball. Beal crashed the glass from the weak side for a series of offensive rebounds and putbacks, using his 6-foot-7 wingspan (which is sort of crazy for a guy measured by camp staff at 6-foot-3.5) to rise to the rim and finish plays against taller defenders. Billy Donovan’s team desperately needs a more consistent outside shooting presence. Beal should easily provide that. But he may also bring some bonus abilities to the floor, too.
- Washington guard Tony Wroten, Jr. might have been the most impressive player during scrimmages Saturday. He hit outside shots. He beat defenders off the dribble. He ran the fast break with impressive ease, and on several occasions — including one lightning-quick, no-look pass perfectly placed in the arms of a rim-running forward — he got the NBA scouts in the audience murmuring about his court vision and decision-making.
- Duke guard Austin Rivers, meanwhile, did not do as much to impress. The son of Celtics coach Doc Rivers is obviously talented, and he might already be the quickest player in the country with the ball in his hands. But he didn’t have much success breaking down defenders and creating his own shot, his main calling-card as a player to date. Of course, Rivers didn’t have much opportunity; the only time he faced actual defenders Sunday was during those structured five-on-five scrimmages. Still, it will be interesting to see if Rivers suffers some early struggles adjusting to the strength and speed of the college game.

Austin Rivers reminds me alot of OJ Mayo…they both seemed liked they reached their ceilings early in their careers! Wroten looks like he’s gonna be a fun guy to follow in college

i said it before i really believe Tony Wroten can be as high as top 5 pick first poing guard taken in the draft next year!
Couldnt have said it better. I really think he is the next Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook, John Wall type of PG to enter the league.

It seems like Rivers stock has been dropping some ever since the McDonald’s game.
And I really think people are sleeping on Tony Wroten. People have been sleeping on him since the ACL injury. But he’ll be a one-and-done, just watch.

I honestly don’t think anybody is sleeping on Tony Wroten and besides Rivers, Gilchrist, and Beal, Wroten has been for 2 years now one of the most popular players in his class. Maybe NBA execs are sleeping on Wroten but he is not being overlooked on draft forums like this one he’s been buzzing for a while now and no I can’t explain his Mcdonald’s game snub but he impressed in the Hoops Summit.
And I also love Wroten’s game too but let’s not get carried away if any PG goes in the top 5 next year it is going to be Marquise Teague. In fact I can probably write that in black and wight that Teague will be a top 5 pick next year. He is hands down the best PG in this class. Harrison Barnes, Jared Sullinger, Anthony Davis, Michael Gilchrist, Terrence Jones, Perry Jones, James McAdoo, Quincy Miller, Austin Rivers, Brad Beal all got top 5 potential so their will be a lot of competition this year.

It seems as if Rivers is going to have some trouble at the beginning of the season ala Harrison Barnes….as a Duke fan I realllly hope he’ll turn it up towards the end of the season like Barnes did when Kendall Marshall got the starting job.

He’s struggled in open gym type game’s but ever oganized game( u19 usa basketball tournament MVP with Kyrie Irving on his team U.S.A record with 7 straight threes,Hoops summit game 20 something points). He doesn’t struggle when it counts and thats what matters not open gym scrimmages or All Star games
I like Wroten but he IMO he will not go top 5 and he is a guy who thrives in All Star game settings. He will not IMO go ahead of Barnes,Sullinger,Gilchrist,Davis,P.Jones,Q.Miller

At Kevin Durant’s Camp, Rivers really impressed and even scared Durant that he would face him one day. But then Rivers always tops off things like that with bad performances. I didn’t think his mcdonalds performance was as bad as everyone acted like. I thought it was just an off day. But it is starting to seem like he just isn’t getting better or something. The kids got talent but I question if he is so cocky that it is starting to affect his work ethic and play. Now it seems like if he is a PG he is maybe the 5th best PG in the draft. But I used to think Tony Wroten Jr. was overrated but nowadays he is underrated because everyone seemed to forget about him he is still one of the top players in this draft.

How hasn’t he gotten better though?..Based on what?..i think people see one bad game (All star game) and think he hasnt gotten better but they forget that he dominated before that at just about every event and steps up on the big stage like the U19 games. Just like Wroten who looked great in the Allstar games but people forget that before that he was getting out played in match up’s with top point guards.
And most hate on him because of hearing about him so much and the way he carries his self but his game has proven how good he is many times(including giving Beal the business in just about every match up)

But I just think he needs to build on good performances. He is one of my favorite players in the whole 2012 draft class so don’t think i’m hatin’ on him.

Wroten dominates Allstar games but he’s not as consistant when it comes to real games although he is still good. Rivers constantly dominates real games and i think people forget about that and focus on the playground/Allstar games
