Anton123ParticipantI think Derek Fisher went from being the worst starter in the league to being one of the worst bench players in the league.
There is a myth that Fisher is a good shooter, but he is shooting below 30% throughout the year and an absolutely monstrous 22.5% for as a member of the Thunder. He has scored 24 points on 40 shot attempts.
To his attrocious shooting Fisher adds his masterful and unique complete lack of defense, all he seems to do is let the defender go by him and then fouls him (he is averaging more fouls per game than Durant). He is supposed to add leadership and be a good mentor, but I wish he’d do that without stepping on the floor. Reggie Jackson is a better shooter, defender, is faster, more athletic and has lots of potential.
I love Scott Brooks as a coach, he is a good motivator, he draws good offensive sets, but his in-game substitutions really anger me, I mean he now loves to play a line up of Fisher-Westbrook-Harden-Durant-Collison/Perkins, that is just an awful line up! It’s bad defensively because it is extremely small and it is not especially good offensively, because both perkins and Fisher are miserable offensively.
Also I wish he’d play Aldrich instead on Mohammed.
Sorry for this rant, what do you think about Fisher? Does anyone else think he only makes the team worse?

TyroberParticipantHave you never seen a team go small? I am not sure if any power forward in the league can guard Durant at the 4. It is all about mismatches and matchups. If you don’t think the Thunder are good offensively with Westbrook, Harden, AND Durant on the floor when would you ever agree that they are?

llperezAs a laker fan I’m happy fish is gone. The lakers chances of winning a ring went up with sessions replacing fish who I have been saying for years doesn’t deserve to start. Now with that said, watch fish nail a game winner or two vs the lakers in the playoffs

Anton123ParticipantSure I have seen teams go small, but when teams go small they should become faster and more effective in transition, how much faster do you get when you get Fisher in instead of Ibaka? Fisher is worse than Ibaka at both transition defense and offense
And PFs don’t guard Durant, the SF or SG still guards Durant, while anybody else just guards Fisher, it’s not a tough cover at all.
You can have Westbrook-Harden-Durant by just replacing Sefolosha with Harden

UNCbasketballbumParticipantDerek Fisher is one of the best leaders and ultimate team players in NBA history. He’s just gotten too old and slow to contribute to a team. He should really retire.

aamir543ParticipantWhen D-Fish was a FA, I assumed some Veteran contender would pick him up, let him ride the bench, and then he’d hit a clutch shot or two in the playoffs, and ride off into the sunset. But he’s getting too much playing time. If Fish gets so much PT than how come a guy like Stackhouse can’t? I feel like Fish is getting a lifetime achievement award in teh form of PT even though he was a career 10 and 4 guy, and even though Championships mean a lot, he doesn’t have anything other than them.

kngojcParticipantI seriously think that old man fisherman gets about half his points from the year in the playoffs. Every year he makes like one game winner in the playoffs every time. I mean granted he also gives like 5 up during the regular season…

Memphis MadnessParticipantIn theory the Thunder need a shooter at the point who can also pass so they can go small with Westbrook at 2, Harden at 3, KD at 4, and Ibaka at the 5.
Maybe Fisher has something left in the tank, maybe not. But they need that guy who can get a few points a night off the bench. The Thunder have too many nights where they only get scoring from the Big Three and Ibaka. They need another guy to step up every night and they were banking on Derek Fisher being that guy.
In the playoffs the game slows down and their should be more rest between games so this might help D-Fish. He may be underperforming now but I can see the logic there. Plus, he knows the Lakers and has played in some wars against the Spurs and those two teams appear to be the Thunder’s biggest threats out west.

sheltwon3ParticipantMe personally I would have loved Fish off the bench. Also Bynum was not as big an issue with Fish there. It is like he has gotten worse. Numbers don’t always show worth. Fish is clutch. I don’t care if a guy does go 1 for 10 in the first 45 minutes but if that same player can go 3 for 3 in the last 3 and help win us game consitently. I would take that because most games are won in the 4th quarter.
Also on that note Fish has like 2 years left of playing ball.
