NCarmean18ParticipantI am sincerely sorry if this has been posted about already, I just have been insanely busy with schoolwork and haven’t had time to get online much.
As a die hard Illinois Fighting Illini fan, I have kept looking around and waiting to see if Demetri McCamey has made a roster and I hadn’t heard anything, and there was no google articles about it. So, after a little Twitter research, I discovered that he had signed a non-guaranteed contract to play for the Houston Rockets in training camp.
I know that he will more than likely not make the team, but I am extremely excited that he at least gets the opportunity to showcase what he has. Sure, he has had some character issues and some issues with shooting slumps, but he is still a pretty decent player and would serve as a pretty decent 3rd option at the point guard position behind two other players.
I know that it’ll be tough, but I have a lot of faith in my boy and I hope to see him succeed in the NBA. I guess now that only time will tell.

sportspolymathParticipantI always like his game, however, Houston has a lot of guys under contract.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantPlaying in that Motion offense Illinois ran,in which the point guard doesnt have to control the offense..Kind of threw his game off..Hopefully he has worked to improve his shot..otherwise i see him going back and forth between the d-league and overseas to find work…

NbanflguyParticipantHe did have to control the offense. He was their leading scorer and among the big 10 leaders in assists. He needs to improve his shot? He is a fine shooter.
Scouting report from right here on this site:
Has really become a great shooter during his time at school … Made over 2.0 triples a game in his senior season at a 45.1% clip … Can shoot off the dribble or when spotting up … Nearly automatic in catch and shoot situations … Has NBA range and a quick trigger
I seriously think you are wrong on at least half your posts.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantI Meant he needs to improve his shot selection…During the time of the draft GMS & scouts said he had limited upside and lacked athleticism..

Chilbert arenasParticipantI’m so confused with the direction the Rockets are going in, it seems like everyone’s getting a tryout with them.

corneggParticipantHe will be in the D-League no doubt about it

SiggyParticipantHe’s not an NBA player. I don’t think he should waste his time in the D-League either. I do think he can make a decent living in Europe though. There is less specialization over there. Guards can just be guards and forwards can just be forwards. McCamey is neither a PG nor a SG. In the NBA he’d be too slow and not enough of a floor general to be a 1 and he’s too small and not athletic enough to be a 2. I don’t think he’s dynamic enough off the bounce to be anything more than spot up shooter and occasional pick n roll guy, which is perfectly fine in Europe.
