"He was followed by NBA player DeMarcus Cousins with 29 points. Cousins, the 5th overall pick in the 2010 draft, had a tough game, picking up a technical foul in the first half after tossing the ball outside the gym door in frustration after being called for traveling."

—-LOL this is RIDICULOUS! I know it’s just a recreational streetball game, but SERIOUSLY, he that angry because he got called for a travel in a summer league game? Do you guys think he’ll ever mature?

Am I the only one who finds it ridiculous to receive a technical in a streetball game for anything you’ve done? I have never heard of someone being issue a technical in that environment. I call bull ****.

Many and i mean many NBA guys get tech’s in street ball games. Out here in N.C we have a proam where Stackhouse used to get t’d up all the time,Wall got a couple as well as several NBA players. I can understand why though because the Ref’s aren’t as good as in the NBA and travelling is called more often (three steps is not legal)

I do not believe I have ever heard a 29-point game referred to as tough.

the NBA then he should have a flourishing career.  Can’t wait to see Jimmer and Cousins gel together.

The reason why these guys lose their tempers, get aggressive and angry (even in a pickup game) is the same reason they are great players to begin with.  You make a stupid mistake, blow and assignment or take a bad shot you know you forced and you get mad… often times your just mad at yourself… but mad none the less.  Its that fire and passion that makes you great.

Something thats funny. Rasheed Wallace also used to play in the N.C Pro am and he was always one of the calmest guys out there, patting refs on the butt after calls and not picking up techs

Thats just too funny.  A rec game mattered so much to him that he threw the ball out the gym door.  Typical DeMarcus Cousins right there.

Stackhouse actually kicked a 5’8 guard at the free throw line one year because he was making him look bad.

^^ That”s nonsense! I think Demarcus has a lot of talent and potential, but to call him a top 10 player right now is CRAZY! He was one of the most inefficient players in the league last year. His FG% was very low, and his turnovers were abnormaly high for a big man. And in the games I watched, he struggled to finish around the rim.

And while he’s a pretty good passer for a big man, Cousin’s passing ability is vastly overrated. He will occasionally wow you with a great pass or great recognition out of the post but at the end of the day he throws way TOO MANY off the mark passes that wind up in the hands of the other team.Cousins registered 84 passing turnovers this past season, that is pretty darn bad for a big man.

The problem with Cousins and his passing is that he has bought into the hype around it despite the fact that the hype around Cousin’s passing greatly overstates his passing ability.

Cousins thinks he’s a lot better than he is and it shows on the court.

I don’t see the big deal. The only reason it is one is because it’s involving Cousins, who has a history of attitude problems.

A lot of NBA players pick up technicals in street ball, Pro am leagues, etc. I can’t think of the league name, but one here held in Indianapolis (IUPUI’s gym) brings out a lot of NBA players. I remember Jeff Green, Mike Dunleavy Jr and George Hill getting technicals for arguing and tossing the ball.

Cousin was really asked to carry a big load as a rookie. Very few big men come into the league and are asked to score that much right away. The results were probably predictable (high turnovers and low shooting percentage). Top 10 is a crazy thing to suggest for right now and frankly it is probably way past his ceiling even once he develops (he just doesn’t have the hops it seems like). But top 10 center, sure, he probably is there already.

I would have to disagree that Cousins could never be a top ten player in the NBA. He is not a top ten player right now, but to say it is out of the question is premature. Cousins can do almost everything on the floor, he has great court vision, and he can pass and dribble better than any center I have seen in a long time. He has a serviceable mid range jumper, a huge variety of post moves, and a drive to win and improve. The only things holding him back is how long it takes him to get his head, conditioning, and defense in the right place. All those things that we saw improve at least slightly over last season. If he can control those factors and work on improvement, I see no reason why he could never reach top ten in the league.
