paradigmnParticipantDavid Stern’s tenure as NBA Commissioner has come to a close. He’s done a lot for the NBA these past 30-years, but I’ll always remember him for welcoming the new talent into the league. From Hakeem Olajuwon to Anthony Bennett, it’s been a long, strange trip, and now the ride is finally over. The Godfather has left the building.
I find it somewhat ironic that Hakeem Olajumon was the first player drafted under Stren’s tenure, and The Dream 2.0 might be the first hand Adam Silver shakes…
Then again…it could always be this guy 🙂

HitsterParticipantDavid Stern may have not been popular in some quarters but he did a huge amount to make the NBA, the global brand it is today and has always put the interests of the game and the NBA first. Adam Silver has been a long serving NBA employee so looks like a safe pair of hands to take over the reigns.
Thirty years in the job was a huge achievement by David Stern, perhaps he should have stood down sooner but he was a canny old fox and gave the NBA 15 months notice of his intention to retire. This has likely allowed for a very smooth change over with Adam Silver no doubt have been quietly assuming the duties as David Stern’s tenure ran down.
Surely David Stern will be inducted into the Hall of Fame either this year or next and it would be fitting if one of the NBA awards were named in his honour. Something like The Executive of the Year Award would seem a good fit for one of sport’s finest administrators. It does not plaster David Stern’s name across a major award like MVP but rightly recognises his contribution to the NBA like the award named after Walter Kennedy.
My other idea was that the Rookie of the Year Award could be named after David Stern given all the drafts the oversaw during his career.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantHis first 20 years of work will always be overshadowed by the last 10 years of scandals, shady business, and questionable actions.
Overall, he is probably the greatest commissioner in all of sports of all time. If it weren’t for the Chris Paul-vetoed trade, questionable lottery results, and the 2000-2002 referee-Lakers scandal, there wouldn’t be a single person that didn’t think so.

Ghost01ParticipantIf the NBA owned the Hornets (which it was my understanding at the time they did) I have no idea why anyone cares he vetoed that trade. That trade would have been awful for New Orleans in hindsight too.

Junior Greek BallerParticipantThere has been rumours that we here in Greece are going to have a National Holiday as soon as Stern retires. His hatred and racism towards us Greeks is well known, world wide.
He will no longer be able to hold us back, by paying off "Draft websites" to print as little as possible information about upcoming Greeks NBA prospects. If it wasn’t for Euro Baller scouting and promoting Giannis Antetokounmpo he may never of got drafted at all !!
You watch now how many Greeks will be in the NBA in the next few years !!
