The Philadelphia 76ers are expected to hire Daryl Morey to oversee the franchise’s basketball operations department. A deal will likely be finalized in the next few days. Elton Brand will remain as GM. The 76ers hired Doc Rivers, who has a strong relationship and history with Morey, as head coach this offseason.

A funny thing overshadowed in the Morey hiring is the 76ers also hired Pacers defensive minded assistant coach Dan Burke who Openly Complained about how much he Hated the 76ers and especially Embiid. Who he claimed was a Dirty player. Burke said the league allows him to get away with a lot of things.

Yeah Doc is brining in a good staff with Sam Cassell, Dan Burke, and Dave Joerger.

Stephen Silas was hired to coach the Rockets. If I’m not Mistaken he’ll be the 4th Current coach to coach the same as their dads . Ryan and Flip in Minnesota. JB and Bernie Bickerstaff in Cleveland. Mike and Brendan Malone in Denver. Stephen and Paul Silas in Houston.

So is Morey going to bring ‘Moreyball’ to Philly? That seems like it would be hard to do with a PG who won’t (can’t?) shoot 3s, and a dominant center whose bread and butter is post-ups and mid-range jumpers. Plus, Rivers has never coached the Moreyball style. This seems like an interesting experiment …

Interested to see what the dynamic is here. Is he being brought in as an adviser to brand or will he have the ultimate authority to make moves and shape the roster as he sees fit. And you know doc is going to want to have his say as well. Seems like a lot of potential for clashes of opinion.
We all know this is a roster with talent that clearly doesn’t fit, and probably can’t win a title as constructed. We also know this isn’t a team that isn’t constructed at all to play the way morey would prefer to. So what exactly is going to give here? Is he going to be willing to bend and adjust his philosophy to fit the personnel and try to give the embiid-Simmons combo a chance to work. Or does this signal the beginning of the end for them and start of a tear down?
