Gosh, this screws my mock draft. I still think he goes late lottery/mid first round, many teams with multiple picks or not necessarily needing immediate contribution might like the idea of him staying in Europe and continuing his development for a few years. If a few teams with picks in the mid first round were interested in drafting Porzingis to stash him in Europe, I can’t see why Saric has to go lower than that. I think Philly at #10 is the highest he can go. Orlando at #12, Phoenix at #14 or 18, Atlanta at #15, Boston at #17 and Chicago with one of their two picks are all possible destinations.

what an idiot. i don’t understand saric- he wanted to go top 10 last year, pulled out of the draft, this year looks to be going top 10, signs this contract…i just don’t get what he wants or what he’s trying to achieve. So indecisive.

Thank God I was starting to get nervous because with David Blatt as the new coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, I was thinking he’d get serious consideration for the number 1 pick. It was just a feeling though, thank goodness he elected to stay in Europe!

This guy can’t seem to make up his mind.

Still a good option for the Suns with all their picks though.

I Guess his father won..Dario wants to come over, but according to his agent his dad doesnt feel like he is ready..Both Dario and his agent have been feuding with the father about his refusal to allow him to come over right now…
    ..

He is a lottery talent, but in this deep draft, i doubt if he’ll remain there..Maybe now he falls to a team with multiple picks like OKC or Phoenix or to the early 2nd round….

NBA prospect Dario Saric’s agent says father is too involved http://usat.ly/1myDPO6 via @usatoday

The least shocking thing I’ve read.  He was in/out last year.  Out then in this year but leaked there were only a few teams he’d play for.  Skipped the combine……what part of any of that would make teams think he was serious about playing in the NBA any time soon ?  He’ll drop to a good team that doesn’t need him right now – maybe he’s smart !

At the time of the combine he was still playing in the domestic league (lost in the finals), just to clarify that… Also, he has the same manager as the new coach of Efes. And Efes is investing huge amount of money in their squad for the next season.

Also#2, Efes is willing to pay his buyout clause in total (no NBA club would do that) and that’s pretty important because there are some private investors that are waiting to get their money back. His current club Cibona will receive a smaller part of that 1.2M, it’s pretty complicated and long story.

      Greetings from Croatia! 🙂

He wants to make big $$$, simple as it gets. Pretty sure he’s going to make at least $1.5 million (and those are with taxes already paid) and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s more than that. If you take into account taxes and other expenses (european teams usually also pay the rents and other stuff for their players) he would’ve in the Nba he’s going to make more than what he would’ve presumably made with his rookie deal. He can also continue his development playing for a euroleague team, at a higher level of competion than Adriatic League. His father thought he wasn’t ready and didn’t want him to become another Milicic, he wanted his son to prove himself at the highest european level before going to the Nba. I think it’s a bit overcautious but might make some sense. Also, even if he slips, he’s probably a few years away from going to the Nba, so when he decides to come over his salary won’t be restricted to the rookie scale, so he can negotiate and get as much as possible. I wouldn’t call that idiot at all.

No way he falls in the second round, teams in the mid first round wanted to use their picks on Porzingis who’s a lesser prospect right now. Also, teams in the past have spent late first round picks on way worse prospect who weren’t expected to come in the Nba in a few years if ever. I’d be shocked if he slips past #21 to OKC. If he does, San Antonio has a terrific international scouting staff, there’s no way they let him fall to the second round, they spent a late first rounder last year on Livio Jean Charles, Saric is by far a best player.

I would not draft him in the lottery.

I dont expect him in the NBA til that contract runs thru, which is in 3 years.

Is it me or is anyone else getting the feeling of a classic Spurs move here.

Take the talented Euro guy stash him away for 2 years, then he comes over and has a very nice career with them.

It will be interesting to see if anyone will step up and take him in the Top 20 knowing that hes gone for 2 years. Maybe PHX with 3 picks takes a shot on him, but I just get the feeling the Spurs are waiting in the wings for a guy like this.

Phoenix at 18, Chicago at 19, Utah 23, Charlotte 24 are options where he will likely go. The Thunder have two first rounders but I’d assume they would want to take someone who would be on the roster from day 1 with their top pick.

His new team Efes Anadolu wanted him so much since last year, must have offered whim him what could be considered a fortune in European basketball. This is around $3m per year.

$3 million a year isn’t a "fortune" in Euroleague. That’s just what solid to above average Euroleague players get. The best Euroleague players have been getting in the $8 million to $10 million a year range over the last 5-6 years.
