TarHeelRavenParticipantIf you had told me out of Sean May, Rashad McCants, Reymond Felton, Tyler Hansbrough, Wayne Ellington, Ty Lawson, Harrison Barnes, John Henson, and Kendall Marshall that Danny Green would be the most successful NBA player, I along with most other people would’ve told you that you were crazy. Of course a ton of that has to do with his situation with the best organization in the NBA and having a great coach in Pop. Danny Green also deserves a lot of the credit. He was non-existent in Cleveland and bounced around the D-league before going to San Antonio. He hit 27 threes in the NBA finals last year an NBA record. He wasn’t even a knock down three point shooter coming out of high school. He was red hot last night seemingly hitting every three he put up. He’s solid defesnively as well. I think this just shows how great of an organization San Antonio is getting a second round pick out of the D-league and turning him into one of the most lethal three point shooters in the league.

JM40ParticipantAdd Tyler Zeller, Ed Davis, and Brandan Wright to that list as well. You can argue he is the best Tarheel pro since Vince Carter (with maybe Marvin Williams being the only exception).

B-ball fanParticipantI think it is a stretch to call Danny Green a more successful player than Ty Lawson, but Green has definitely found a perfect niche with the Spurs. I doubt he would have had particularly much success with another team, but he definitely has become an extremely confident and effective shooter.

TenSecondTomParticipantDanny Green resides in the town over from me and what I think separates him from others is his worth ethic. He has took his game to the next level in HS, then in College, so I was not surprised to see him stick in the league as a solid contributor.

UnbiasedObserverParticipantDanny Green is on the most successful TEAM, and is the most efficient 3 point shooter of the bunch you listed. However Ty Lawson is clearly better and could also be debated that Harrison Barnes is better. Although Danny Green is an almost flawless fit with San Antonio and is a very good player. Had it not been for a miracle Ray Allen three Danny Green would have been NBA Finals MVP last year.

TarHeelRavenParticipantDanny Green is not more talented than any of those guys I mentioned. He probably had the least amount of talent from all of Roy Williams great recruiting classes, but he found the perfect situation and is flourishing because of it.

Lawrence112ParticipantGreen is only making 4 mill a year too. The Spurs got him at an absolute steal.

ncballerHe sure shows up for the playoffs. I am a huge Heel fan and never understood why he was considered a less heralded prospect than Wayne Ellington. Green was an ultimate stat sheet stuffer and IMHO (may get hugely negged for this, but whatever) was the 2nd best PLAYER (not prospect but player) on UNC’s 2009 championship team behind Ty Lawson (who was practically unstoppable that year). UNC was dominate without Hansbrough in the starting lineup at the beginning that season, and would have adjusted fine had Ellington fallen to injury. But Danny Green even if his shot was off was always garunteed to make a HUGE impact on the game. (his 18 point, 8 rebound, 7 assist, 7 block game against Duke is one of the best performances of all time by any Tar Heel).
Being realistic though: Lawson, Barnes, Henson and maybe Marshall will end up being better overall players than Green.
Green is one of my all time favorites. Loved him at UNC and love him in the NBA.

joecheck88ParticipantGreen is a 3 and D player. He’s very good at it but doesn’t always show up on defense or shooting. He’s very streaky but when he gets hot he is very good. Lawson is the superior player. Barnes is better as a player and too early to tell for Henson.
I get the point you’re making though I just don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves. He is and always will be a role player. He can be a special role player at times but still a role player.
And for fun, if the Nuggets offered Ty Lawson straight up for Green, do the Spurs accept? Buck with Henson? GS with Barnes? I believe yes in all cases.

SpaceghostParticipantI am Still a Beleiver in Harrison Barnes. I think for him it is also an issue of finding the right fit. Danny Green has had time to really fit his game to what the nba sees him as.. A 3 and D guy. I agree that Danny Green has had more sucess, but hell Coach POP is that good of a coach that i think any of those guys u mentioned with the exception of Sean May (too small too slow), Rashard McCants ( head case) the rest could be sucessful with the Spurs too.

hbomb3300ParticipantI thought Green was pretty solid when he played for the Cavs… I wasn’t happy when they let him just walk away… but it’s pretty typical of Cavs management.
