White ChocolateParticipantD.J. Mbenga has signed a one-year deal with the Denver Nuggets according to sources. This is a good move some veteran presence off the bench for the Nuggets.
On another note I can feel another signing coming. Francisco Elson worked out for the Utah Jazz and two days ago he said that he was leaning toward signing with the Jazz. So in two or three days I expect the Jazz to sign him.

IndianaBasketballParticipantDenver’s big free-agent acquisitions are Al Harrington, Shelden Williams and now DJ Mbenga?
Yep… Melo is gone.

SwatLakeCityParticipantWhat do you mean Mr. Knick that Elson is not worth it. He’s a seasoned veteran center that the Jazz really need. Right now the only “True” Centers they have inked in are Kyrlyo Fesenko and Mehmet Okur. Okur is the starter and as close to a true Center you will get with Utah. Fesenko is a true center, but he is a backup and still learning the game. He is very young and needs a true center seasoned veteran to learn from and polish his play. Elson is perfect for that role. Also Okur is hurt, still recovering from the injury he suffered in the playoffs last year. So we could use a “true Center in maybe the starting lineup. I am not saying Elson will start from day 1 until Okur returns fully healthy but it is an option in order to slide Jefferson to his normal position of Power Forward. (The only problem with that lineup is that the Jazz would have a very pricy backup in Paul Millsap.) The signing of Fransisco Elson is very much worth it especially for Utah and how weak they are at Center. He could reallly help them. Just like the signing of Raja Bell. It may not look like much because he is old, but signings of seasoned veterans can take a team far. For example, when Raja Bell was with the Jazz before Dwill was drafted, he was able to help the team survive post Stockton and Malone era and still be a .500 team! Everyone expected Utah to struggle for a few years before they would succeed again, no one expected them to be a .500 team 1 season after Stockton and Malone had left. Another example. 2007, Utah’s first playoffs since Stockton and Malone. They were not an 7th or 8th seed, they were a 5th seed and once again no one expected to beat out Houston. Everyone had Houston advancing to play Dallas in the second round. Well, as we all know, they advanced because of the smart play of yet another seasoned veteran, Derek Fisher. And not only did he help Utah get past the first round he helped them advance all the way to the Conference Finals! And remember this was Utah’s first playoffs since the Stockton and Malone era. They were swept by the Spurs in the Conference Finals they lost in, I believe 6 games. So they actually fought and did not give up. Played well once again because of Derek Fisher. This signing of Francisco is well worth it as was the signing of Raja Bell.

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantIs Fez resigned? I don’t know.
Also, Elson is old. You don’t need another vet if he cannot play. I rather have Earl Barron or if you want experience…go Steven Hunter.
I didn’t even read that long rant on how Francisco Elson is the golden signing Utah needs. He’s not the best C in FA…

SwatLakeCityParticipanthe can play. No Fez has not been resigned yet, but I expect him to be soon because he does not have much of a market. He has an offer of a 1.5 million on the table from Utah and he is willing to accept but he is looking around to see if any other team will offer him more. But since training camp is about to start, I expect him to be resigned soon.
Yes, Elson is old but that’s the idea. I agree Hunter would be much better than Elson, but he will do. And Barron, what are you thinking. He’s from the D-league and doesn’t really have much experience in the NBA. Just a year in New York. I would prefer Hunter, but like I said Elson will do. And who knows if Hunter is even willing to come Utah. At least Elson is willing to come. And if not gonna read why this signing is important than why even respond “wisely” to what I said. Its just unwise and stupid. I am not saying that Elson is a “golden” signing, and nor would Hunter, but I am saying it would be worth it, and it is because of what he brings to the table, and the fact that he is a seasoned veteran that can help Fesenko reach his full potential. No, Elson is not the best center in Free agency, but what do you expect this late in? Not much a market left. Hunter is probably the best center left. Tough crowd you are. Elson will do and yes he is worth it. Just because a player is old and past his prime does not mean they are not worth signing.0 - Posted on: Sat, 09/04/2010 - 10:45am #393936
