Last night I watched the stat guys and anouncers give CP3 his 10th assist on an entry pass to Blake Griffin who then proceeds to take 4/5 dribles and a post move to give him a tripple double. The pass did not directly lead to a basket, how they counted it as an assist is beyond me.

Why is he so respected, when he has never won anything? I just feel like he is annointed to be this great PG without ever really elevating the players around him. I cant name one player that he has made look better by playing with him.

Not winning a championship will not prevent him from being a hall of famer and considered an all-time great. Smh…

He hasnt even got out of the 2nd round. Carmelo Anthony has carried more team to the playoffs then has. And he has never won anything, so why is CP3 held in such high esteem.

He made both David West and Tyson Chandler look like all stars in NO.

The way he got into the lane and threw ally oops to Chandler and got West wide open 15 foot jumpshots made both players look so much better than what they were without him.

I agree about Tyson Chandler but David West is looking just fine with George Hill/Pacers and life after CP3. Hill is in not a bad PG, but not above average either.

14 and 7 is not the same as 20 and 9.

West had 6 straight great years in NO. He has had one great year and 2 average years in Indiana. He clearly dropped after losing CP3

I disagree with you about David West. He was coming off of an ACL tear his first season with the Pacers. He was great during his second season. He took more of a backseat last season to Paul George and Lance Stephenson.

The major difference in West now compared to NO is he’s not attempting as many shots per game. His FG% is still the same and he’s still a killer from mid-range. I actually think that while with the Pacers, he’s shown more besides just being primarily a pick and pop guy. He’s a very good back to the basket player.

CP3 didnt make Chandler or West thats ridiculous.

In Tysons one year with the Mavs he had a bigger impact on the statsheet and on the game then in his three years with New Orleans. Tyson Chandler was a big part of that Mavericks Championship run and thats what he will be remembered for, not his finishes on CP3 lob passes.

David West is 34 thats why his production has slipped. Not to mention his minutes dropped from 36-mpg to about 30-mpg. His production hasnt slipped much despite not having a pass first PG or as many minutes. His second year with the Pacers he went for 17-ppg and 8-rpg which is about what you can expect from him this year with no Paul George. In his beat year with New Orleans he went for 21-ppg and 8-rpg with alot more minutes.

Indiana has had just as much playoff success as that New Orleans team and Dallas had a championship.

I’m with you he is very good but not GREAT..

Westbrook won their match-up for example, and most importantly his team won..

    CP3 isn’t 20/10 anymore,he isn’t champion or even nba finalist..

he is a perfect point guard who doesn’t turn the ball over and plays with pass first mentality..but that doesn’t make you Magic, you have to prove something

In that case, nobody is Magic.

Nobody is saying in the Mount Rushmore of basketball. He’s arguably a top 10 PG all time and he has been a star for almost 10 years. Look, I really hate the Clippers, but you got to give the man some props. He’s really good.

I’m saying he is really good just not that great, did you read it? Because right after that you are saying give him some props he’s is really good..

so…once again, he is really good for me he is easily top7 is the league and top3 among PG, he may be higher but thats veeery debatable.. and I like him and don’t want to make him look bad I just wanna make a point he isn’t that clear #3 is the league like ESPN is saying for a couple of years, or even read the article saying we are watching the best PG since Magic..

and everybody saying he is a winner.. for player who is top3 in the NBA you have tobe at least a real real contender for numerous year if not being champion to be called great player AND winner.

Exactly, he choked in that OKC series and no one noticed,  He made 2/3 costly mistakes that cost his team game 6 or 5 and ultimately the series.

Championships should be pretty low on the list of ways to judge a player. A player generally has five to six years of prime time (CP3s best years were before the knee injury, he is not as good now). There are 30 teams in the league. Your team wins based on the combined performance of you and 6 or 7 other key guys on the team. So even if you are the second best player in the league, you probably aren’t winning the championship unless you are teamed up by your owner, general manager, and draft luck, with two or three other star players.

It does sound like a fake assist though.

Chris Paul CAN be the best point guard in the league.  He is.  Just not on that LeBron level of greatness (few are).

LeBron is on the All-Time Non Big Man Mount Rushmore with Mike, Magic, and Larry.

Mount Rushmore of Bigs is Wilt, Russell, Kareem, and Duncan.

You could then do a Mount Rushmore of Point Guards (not named Magic): Oscar Robertson, Isiah Thomas, John Stockton, and then maybe Bob Cousy if you like the old guys.  Or, Jason Kidd.

CP3 can move into the Mount Rushmore of point guards if he keeps up the good work, BUT he needs a title unless he goes crazy with assists and passes Stockton’s mark.

So, CP3 can be an-time great point guard, but unlike LeBron he is not on the fast track to pass guys named Magic and Michael.

I mean, you’re right, Chris Paul has not won anything. That can’t take away from how great is. His numbers in New Orleans were just insane. The guy is an absolute wizard with the basketball. Stockton never won a championship, yet he is a top 5 PG all-time. He also went to 2 finals and was beat by some guy named Jordan. You can define greatness by championships. If you want to do that, Bill Russell is the greatest of all-time. Paul still has at least 6-7 years longer to play and he could very well lead the Clips to the finals this year. He will age gracefully like Nash because his game is predicated on skill unlike Westbrook who just relies on sheer strength and athleticism. Paul will never be Magic of course, but you can’t deny he is one of the all-time greats at the point guard spot.

After Magic time, probably debatable along with J Kidd and Gary Payton, but that’s it. Honestly I don’t know anybody who thinks CP is better than Magic… that’s just insane.

I’ve always thought CP3 was overrated ,Clippers did not drop off that much when CP3 was out last season and is why Blake Griffin was in the running for the MVP. He does not make anybody on the Clips better and they have been a disappointment with as much talent they have. If  Melo was in place of CP3 with the same results everybody would be bashing him.
