JNixonParticipant#30: Temple Owls
Frontcourt: Lavoy Allen was a 2nd round pick by the 76ers, a valued PF/C for Temple after a steady career. He’ll be tough to replace. The C spot will be manned by Michael Eric, a 6’11 230 guy who missed the last month of the season due to a broken patella. He is an average rebounder for his size and is only marginal as an offensive player. He’s long though and works for position down low. They have options at SF/PF, even though they are undersized in 6’6 210 Scootie Randall and 6’6 205 Rahlir Jefferson. Randall is physical and wiry strong, and shows the ability to make 3’s too as a mismatch for PF’s when he plays there. Jefferson can defend SG-PF and will mix it up down low, even though he’s not very good offensively (not a terrible problem with their guards and Randall in the fold). Allen was a steady, solid guy so the loss hurts some, but it’s not the end of it all. They have capable bodies and role players.
Backcourt: Juan Fernandez is their lead guard. He previously was a 6’4 combo guard, but played PG mostly last year. That’s good, since that’s probably where he’s most successful. Fernandez has a shooting stroke and will get on game-changing sprees at times and he’s a pretty good passer too in an offense with its share of strong passers. He suffered through a pretty shaky, inconsistent Jr. season though, and will have to bounce back and work on getting stronger physically. Fernandez is a fringe NBA prospect, but he’s not an athlete or a very good defender. He seems like a guy that will have a pro career, but likely overseas or semi-pro. 6’4 Ramone Moore will be the go-to guy next season. Last year I wrote expect Moore to go from a 7 ppg scorer to a guy who gets about 12 or 13ppg who plays OK D. He actually got 15 ppg though in a breakthrough year. He’s got some nice talent offensively, especially around the rim, and he’s a rather efficient too with a nice mid-range game and steady deep shooting skills that he clearly worked hard on last year. 6’4 210 guard Khalif Wyatt, a Jr. grew up last year and emerged by the A-10 slate. Wyatt can stick the deep jumper and has the strength and physicality to score in the arc. He’s not a great athlete, but he plays smart on offense and pick his spots. He also will be expected to grow more for a team that can use his points. Fr. Aaron Brown will contribute defensively and with his decent athleticism, but I don’t expect him to score or play all that much as a mid-rotation player for a 2nd straight year. This group should be as strong as last year’s group, but they now have even more depth. Ramone Moore should hover around his production from last year, if not up it, with the loss of Allen. Fernandez also will be expected to shoulder more of a load, and he’ll need to get much more efficient to be worthy of it.
Overview: Coach Dunphy has been OK at Temple, he’s won them the games they should and lost the games they should have too. This year, despite losing their a vet and draft pick like Lavoy Allen, I expect them to be solid. Fernandez and Moore should be All-Atlantic 10 performers next year. Outside of those 2, they have solid role-players for a high-level mid-major team, guys who are blue-collar and will make the games hard to change pace. I think this team will be a 1 and done team though.

ProudGrandpaParticipantWith Moore and Fernandez back, they will have no trouble scoring. They should win the A10, not a strong group this year

RUDEBOY_ParticipantSince the Old Man mentioned Purdue..Its going to be what type of stats Robbie Hummel will put up next year..A few years ago some said he was a borderline 1st rounder…Will Having those 2 surgeries have affected his play?
