Mr.Knick 32ParticipantThis year, Baylor had a better season in Texas and Baylor probably has a better head coach. Not only does Baylor pulling in some good recruits (Not at the level of Texas) but depending on how far Baylor gets in the NCAA Tournament and the success of Baylor next season with Diaper Dandy Perry Jones, I believe Baylor might become the 2nd best school in Texas and might be able to take players from Texas in the recruiting trail.

JoeWolf1Baylor is certainly hot right now, and I think you are right, but another Texas school I wouldn’t sleep on is Texas A&M. Mark Turgeon has done a great job there and they have the potential to start stealing some recruits from Texas as well, but lets not forget how loaded Texas’ freshman class this year is, I’m sure they’ll be back in the top 15 next season despite a disappointing conference season.

JNixonParticipantBaylor may be borderline Final 4 good this year, but next year? They can be VERY scary. Especially if Udoh returns and George Walton develops into a heady, solid player who doesn’t try to do too much.
I think that Baylor recruits different types of guys than Texas. Texas goes for guys with prototypical tools and players with good physical ability because they play a half-court style. Baylor/Coach Drew, on the other hand, goes for guys with high level high school production (LaceDarius Dunn, formerly Curtis Jerrells and Tweety Carter) on the perimeter, and very long, potential-ridden, mismatch types of players on the wings/frontline (Quincey Acy, formerly Kevin Rogers, Ekpe Udoh, Perry Jones, Anthony Jones).
I think that with the amount of talent in Texas, both can get the kind of prospects they want. Unless, of course, both are trying to get a 5-star or “gotta have” prospect. Then that’s when it comes to bragging rights and we’ll see who’s stronger head-to-head then.

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantI think if Baylor gets to the final four…..someone needs to say Barnes is on the hot seat

HandDownManDown13Participantabsolutely. they already are doing that. they got perry jones out of duncanville, the biggest state of texas recruit. i think they continue to do that under scott drew, whos a very good coach and recruiter. a deep run this year only helps them more.

DanEboyParticipantI think Baylor will beat the Dookies and get to the Final 4.

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantI have Baylor in the final four as well. I believe that speaks volume for Coach Drew and not to mention, this was a team who was built almost from the ground up after there terrible disaster when one player killed a teammate and a couple players transferred and had good season’s after that (Notably- Lawerance Roberts)

whiteflashParticipantThere’s a few reasons why Baylor will never be as strong as UT. #1 is UT”s in Austin and Baylor’s in Waco. Austin couldn’t be more attractive to a college kid, especially a big-time recruit. Waco has….. the memory of Branch Davidions? Also UT has all kinds of money, tv deals, training programs, staff and access to things that Baylor just doesn’t. Baylor is also a private baptist school, and they have to do all kinds of sh!t related to church and religion, and that could/would scare a lot of recruits away. Perry Jones’ ranking is based off of potential, and he could easily turn into Dermar Johnson if he’s not careful. And yes I know Johnson had that horrific accident, but it was looking like he wasn’t gonna pan out anyway. Bottom kine is Baylor’s building a strong program and they’ve accomplished a lot in the last couple of years, but I seriously doubt they’ll ever be more than 3rd or 4th in the state of Texas.

esperanzafleet69Participantbaylor is really good right now… theyve got some good size on their team… but they’re not on the same level as far as a program that texas is…

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantWhy not? What has Texas really done the past 10 years besides 1 Final Four?
Seriously, Texas got some recruits and that’s about it.
