I think that the Hornets will get #1.  I do not think that Anthony Davis will be on the Charlotte Bobcats,  I think there are "games" played with the lottery, and I think that the Hornets will get the first pick because  the NBA owns them and wants to get a good price for the team.  Also, Stern wants to look back at the CP3 trade as a stroke of "genius" since he was involved.

Anyone else see a possible conspiracy theory in this draft?

First, the hornets are no longer owned by the NBA, they sold earlier in the year. With that said, it’s easy to buy into these conspiracy theories because of the way stern handles the lottery, butr until I see some solid, concrete evidence that something isn’t right I can’t really side with the conspiracy theorists. It’s fun to find controversy in things, especially sports, but here’s my example as to why I’m pretty sure the lottery isn’t fixed: The Kings have been terrible for quite some time, having close to the worst record for years and owners who refuse to spend money to bring in any good players, and still no number 1. Don’t you think Stern would probably throw a pick towards a team like that rather than teams like chicago, who acquired their pick in a trade, but nonetheless were in the playoffs the year before winning the lottery?

…over Chicago.  The NBA became an international force based upon a guy wearing a Bulls uniform and it is an unbelievably large city (especially factoring in the miles and miles of non-stop suburbs).  Not that Sacramento county is tiny.  Christ, its got 1,500,000 people.  But, Cook and Dupage have close to 6.5 or 7,000,000.. Plus, Rose is from Chicago.  If Jabari goes on that 2 year mission you will see come 2016 when that Bulls pick (from Charlotte) becomes #1 and they get the Simeon kid again.

Dan Gilbert’s letter to David Stern:

    Hey David,

It’s me again. Listen, I know I’ve been b*tching about a lot of things in the past and you’ve probably heard from me more than any other owner out there. I want to thank you for Kyrie last year. I really apperciate you sending a future All-Star PG to us.  I made some promises in that "The Decision" aftermath saying that I guarantee we’ll win a championship before LeBron.

"I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘KING’ WINS ONE"

I can’t let him and his decreasing hairline one-up me. Plus, I hate looking like a jackass even though I really am one. Now I know this draft is stacked but I would really like to have Anthony Davis on this team. Just throw a few extra ping-pong balls in there come next week. Back to back first overall picks may look shady but we’ll just call it a "coincedence". Thanks for listening.

    Love,

    Dan Gilbert

… I guess I read TOO MANY MOCK DRAFTS that have Charlotte picking #1, which is silly to do until the 30th.  They have the best odds, but it rarely means they get #1.  I have read many a mock that basically has Anthony Davis already practicing with the Bobcats, without even mentioning that the lotto hasn’t happened yet.  After the Bulls got Rose in 08, I’ve felt something fishy was going on.

Correct, I misrepresented myself.  I meant to say that the Hornets were sold and they want to make it a good deal (aka it was part of their sales pitch).

wants to give the pick to.  I would say the Hornets since they just lost Chris Paul and need a superstar to revive their franchise.  The Nets just moved to Brooklyn so Stern might give them the pick to boost the Nets start there.  Portland is falling into rebuild mode and Stern may give it to them since Oden didn’t work out.  If Stern has some compassion though, he will give it to Charlotte.

for some odd reason I think The Pistons will leap frog 8 teams and get the # 1 pick…I think Detroit is in the same situation The Bulls(Rose), Clippers(Griffin) Wizards(John Wall) and Cavs(Kyrie Irving) where they were good markets in Need a star to boost their stock enough to make them relevant, some more than others of course

I think the Pistons could use the appeal of landing the Top Pick…I just feel like it’s their year to land a high pick

I would not rule out Sacramento, Brooklyn and of course Charlote …someone will jump over Charlote, Washington or New Orleans…

It’s the Hornets or the Nets, each for an obvious reason.

People like to do conspiracy theories that the lottery is rigged but based on the odds the worst team actually doesnt have that high of a chance to get the 1st pick. They have the best odds at 25% but that also means that there is a 75% chance that another team will get it. So that means 3/4 times the worst team does not get the #1 pick. I love the conspiracy theories but in reality the lottery is probably random and they are just "coincidences" and you can make a story line with whoever gets it that it is rigged.

Like somebody else mentioned earlier it’s between the Nets and the Hornets. I think the Nets get the number one pick, and possibly trade Anthony Davis along with other pieces for Dwight Howard so they can keep Deron Williams and have their superstar duo for the new arena. I think the top 3 will be the Nets, Hornets and Bobcats. Don’t count out the Kings either with getting a top 3 pick. They desperately need something positive with their possible relocation situation. The NBA always loves a "good" story

I’ll run down the Number One picks since 1990, I’ll see if any of you guys can pick up any trends…

90′ New Jersey Nets – Derrick Coleman (One of The Nets many mistakes in the draft, Coleman could have been a great player but his maturity/conditioning never improved, another what if athlete)

91′ Charlote Hornets – Larry Johnson (Another upstart gets one of the most marketed athletes of the 90’s)

92′ Orlando Magic – Shaq O’neal (Upstart franchise gets the most dominate big of our Time)

93′ Golden State via Orlando – Chris Webber(1st # 1overall pick since 80′ Joe Barry Carrol, 13 year span)

94′ Milwuakee Bucks – Glenn Robinson (1st overall pick since 77′ Kent Benson and 69′ Lew Alcindor)

95′ Golden State Warriors- Joe Smith (2nd# 1 overall pick in 2 years)

    96′ Philadelphia 76ers – Allen Iverson (1st # 1 overall pick since 73′ Doug Collins current coach)

97′ San Antonio Spurs – Tim Duncan (10 years after Drafting David Robinson # 1 overall in 87′)

98′ Los Angelos Clippers – Micheal Olowokandi (10 years drafting Danny Manning # 1 in 88′)

99′ Chicago Bulls- Elton Brand – I can’t seem to find the year Jordan was drafted on Wiki to draw the connection

00′ New Jersey Nets- Kenyon Martin (10 years after drafting Derrick Coleman, they were sniffing around the Top 3 1o years later BTW)

01′ Washington Wizards – Kwame Brown (8 years after trading for Chris Webber)

    02′ Houston Rockets – Yao Ming (1st # 1 Overall pick since 83′ Sampson 84′ Olajuwan, 18 year span)

03′ Cleveland Cavs – Lebron James (1st # 1 overall pick since 86′ Brad Daugherty, 17 year span, they had another # 1 in 71′ Austin Carr, another 15 year span)

04′ Orlando Magic – Dwight Howard (12 years after Shaq drafted)

05′ Milwuakee Bucks – Andrew Bogut (11 years after drafting Big Dog # 1)

06′ Toronto Raptors – Andrea Bargnani (The teams first # 1 overall pick)

    07′ Portland Trail Blazers – Greg Oden (The Classic 1 vs 2 curse ala Bowie/Jordan, 1st # 1 overall pick since 78′ Micheal Thompson, that’s a 21 year span)

08′ Chicago Bulls – Derrick Rose (9 years after drafting Brand)

09′ Los Angelos Clippers – Blake Griffin (11 years after drafting the Mega Bust Micheal Olowokandi)

10′ Washington Wizards – John Wall (9 years post Kwame Brown)

11′ Cleveland Cavs – Kyrie Irving (8 years after Lebron was crowned ”The Choosen One")

With all that Info you guys should be able to tell who may win the NBA Draft Lottery, if I had to break it down

I’d guess that the Rockets are due, they are ten years removed from Yao, they’d have to make a huge jump though, The Bucks are also a few years away from having the # 1 pick IMO and they could even win this season

One Team I keep pegging with that Pick is Detroit, they haven’t won the # 1 pick since 1970 Bob Lanier even though they drafted Isiah Thomas and The Bad Boy Title Teams WITHOUT IT…

Them and The Sacramento Kings could be due for the # 1 Pick, I on’t completey count out Charlote either for all the obvious reasons and it’s been 20 years since The Magic drafted Shaq and saved a franchise in a tough southern sports market (South Florida was not the hot bed it is today, Charlote could use the boast) It’s also been 21 years since the Hornets Franchise has won the # 1 pick although they have gotten Baron and CP3 in spite, they could be due as well and have the ping pong balls to get it…

I just feel the Pistons have to get the Pick, The one Team I feel is also mathmaticly due for the Pick is The Warriors, it’s been 17 years since they have won the # 1 pick and The are a huge market/classic team that needs a superstar to vault them to a contender, if they hadn’t tanked this season I’d be pulling for them to get the pick, Marc Jackson would love a defender like Davis next to David lee and Andrew Bogut, hell they can play him at Sf

Most people have the Nets as the front runner and I have to agree with y’all.

My top 5 list and the team I think could get it.

    1. New Jersey/Brooklyn Nets

    2. Charlotte Bobcats

    3. Golden State Warriors

    4. Sacramento Kings

    5. New Orleans Hornets

My prediction for the Lottery and Draft day prediction without workouts. Really team needs.

    1. New Jersey/Brooklyn Nets – Anthony Davis

    2. Charlotte Bobcats – Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

    3. New Orleans Hornets – Andre Drummond

    4. Golden State Warriors – Harrison Barnes

    5. Washington Wizards – Bradley Beal

    6. Cleveland Cavaliers – Austin Rivers

    7. Sacramento Kings – Kendall Marshall

    8. Minnesota Timberwolves/New Orleans Hornets – Thomas Robinson

    9. Toronto Raptors – Dion Waiters – Raptors have no wing guys that can create for other or himself and Waiters have that Dwade attitude in him. The steal of the Draft. Pure heart from this kid. Move Demar to the 3 and Waiter to the 2.

    10. Detriot Pistons – John Henson

    11. Portland Trail Blazers – Meyers Leonard

    12. Milwaukee Bucks – Jared Sullinger

    13. Phoenix Suns – Jeremy Lamb – I think Lamb is overrated in my eyes, still a lottery pick.

    14. Houston Rockets – Tyler Zeller

It will give you an Idea of how the # 1 can jump around…The Nets haven’t gotten the # 1 in 12 years so yeah they could be due,but The Kings haven’t won it  in almost 20 plus seasons though, And the Pistons haven’t won it since 70′ so that’s where I’m placing my Bet right now…

Houstons is 10 years removed from picking Yao and they seem to a # 1 every decade or so if you check out my list,

The Clippers have also won the # 1 once every decade or so…(88′, 98′ and 09′)

The Warriors are also due for the # 1 pick mathmaticly, same goes for Milwuakee…

…so if there are weighted ping pong balls I can’t see Stern rewarding them.. I do feel for the fan base though, especially after reading this article that I saved.  Check it out, it does a great job of putting you in a Warriors fan’s perspective.
