When draft time comes around I like to think that it kind of matters what University that some of the players attended, or what conference they played in. It might gauge what type of players they will become in the league if traditionally they go to a productive or storied program. Here is my top 5 programs in the last 15 years that I think churn out consistently solid players

    5. Duke- Know for great college players, but more solid pros with the likes of Battier, Reddick, Chris Duhon Loul Deng, Elton Brand, Corey Maggette etc.

    4. Kentucky- Seems like Kentucky always produces solid pros. Rajon Rondo, Antoine Walker, Jamal Mashburn etc.

    3. Arizona- Lute Olson knows how to develop point guards- Mike Bibby, Gilbert Arenas, Jason Terry, Andre Iggy. etc.

    2. North Carolina- This was a shock! Vince Carter, Antwan Jamison, Raymond Felton, Sean May etc.

    1. Connecticut- Rip me for this, but the way Calhoun develops players, and he doesn’t get the highly touted type either. Richard Hamilton, Caron Butler, Emeka Okafor, Charlie V. for pete sakes Josh Boone first round pick didn’t see that coming, and Rudy Gay etc.

Top 5 the next 15 years
    5. Texas- Barnes recruits studs

    4. Villanova- Jay Wright does a Tremendous job develop tough guards

    3. UCLA- Howland got the powerhouse back

    2. Ohio State- Thad Matta can Recruit big time.

    1. North Carolina – Traditon, Jordan Logo, the program recruits itself. Roy Williams is in heaven.

Kansas will be number one in the next 15 years. Bill Self is the ultimate recruiter. Last year Chalmers, Rush, Arthur, Jackson. Soon to be Collins and Aldrich. With this guy recruiting Kansas will turn out good pros every year.

good thread. i agree w/ your top 3, and the order they are in. however why is wake forest not in your top 5?! i know the volume has not been there but the quality is undeniable. duncan, cp3, and josh howard all great players and aminu to come. totally agree about texas, in the last three years they have produced aldridge, augustin and of course durant. also ucla, with love, westbrook, afflalo, and farmar, and soon to be collison and holliday. another thing to think about is the players that signed or almost signed to schools but didnt go there because they made the leap to the nba. some examples are memphis with stoudemire, kendrick perkins. mississippi state with monta ellis and travis outlaw. arkansas with al jefferson (in addition to producing ronnie brewer). andrew bynum committed to uconn. finally pitino had telfair and amir johnson signed to louisville, in addition to producing terrence williams, and earl clark. i could go on and on, it is just fun to think about the possibilities if the 1 year of college rule had been intact a 5 or 6 years ago. another team for the future that will be known for producing great pros is georgia tech, they had crittenton and thaddeus young go out a few years ago, in the next few years they will have produced pros in lawal, derrrick favors, and possibly iman shumpert. also the rumor was dwight howard was going there before he decided to turn pro.

Memphis could be in the top 5 in the next 15 years, when I did this I had a mirgraine and could really think straight. I really wanted to put this read out there. Good point about Wake Quality over quantity any day. I put the Etc. because didn’t want to put every person in. My fault on Grant Hill. Kansas agreed with that as well, and boy James-Harden-13 that would be neat if we could’ve put the 1 and done rule for Memphis and Louisville. Georgia Tech is also an interesting program I don’t know how Paul Hewitt does it I really think he gets to much hype because of the final four run a few years ago, but he’s getting Derrick Favors. The more I’m typing you know what Paul Hewitt is a heck of a recruiter, but not x’s and o’s.

You have to account how good Calipari is even before the limit was instilled. Can anyone imagine if Amare Stoudemire did play at Memphis for 1 season? Hell what about Kendrick Perkins playing College Ball? To even think of some of the names this guy has recruited is downright scary. I do have to agree when it comes to the Best NCAA-NBA turnaround it’s hands down Connecticut. Since 2002 here’s what Calhouns assembled into the NBA; Hilton Armstrong, Josh Boone, Marcus Williams, Charlie Villanueva, Rudy Gay, Andrew Bynum* Technically he did commit to Uconn, and not to mention players like Ray Allen, Rip Hamiliton, Rudy Gay, Emeka Okafor, or Caron Butler all going through the system either. The Dukes and North Carolina Don’t Compare to the Connecticut’s, Kansas’s and the Memphis’s that year in and out bring in hs talent to be blossomed into nba start rather than college heroes.

Totally agree with you Harden. Just imagine if players like Amare and Dwight Howard had gone to college, that would have been so fun to watch. Don’t forget Ohio State if you go by that too, they almost had LeBron james but he became ineligble for college plus players like Koufos, Oden, Conley, Cook could all be decent players soon. Buford and Turner will be enetering soon as well.

The program up in Storrs has produced the likes of Ray Allen, Richard Hamilton, Kevin Ollie, Clifford Robinson, Donyell Marshall, Caron Butler, Emeka Okafor, Ben Gordon, Rudy Gay, Josh Boone, Marcus Williams, Charlie Villanueva, Hilton Armstong, and not to mention soon to be NBA draft picks, Hasheem Thabeet and AJ Price. Note: Andrew Bynum would have been added to this list too because he was committed to UCCON, before he made the jump from high school to the NBA.

we are talking about quality not quanity. a penny, yes calipari has gotten a lot of players drafted, but besides rose who out of that list are actually great players? seems to me that most of them are d-leaguers. and based on your name, it seems like you’re a penny hardaway fan. you forgot him too, considering he went to memphis state which became memphis. and kpi03. are you really going back to the 1950s? i understand wilt is one of the best players ever but if we are doing that, i can trump you easily with ucla- abdul jabaar, and bill walton. or lsu- maravich, o’neal. again quality over quantity. it is undeniable that uconn over the last ten years has produced the best pros. you take the 5 best ku players- pierce, hinrich, arthur, collison, gooden. against the 5 best uconn players- rip, okafor, gay, gordon, butler. it is no contest. even unc and arizona have superior players over ku the last 10 years. just because teams like florida and ku win the ncaa title and have 5 players get drafted does not mean the players are good, just a thought.

I am saying memphis for the next 15 years. Rose, CDR, Tyreke, Xavier Henry will all be great players. Shawne Williams could be good, Dorsey will help some team someday. Wagner, Dozier, Anderson, Carney ehh. I think that has some quality. Wall and Cousins could be Memphis alum as well. I wish Darius Washington had panned out, he was my favorite college player at the time.

agree, d washington was a great college player. and his dad was a pro, i don’t get why he hasnt been more successful. you are right about the future of memphis as well. this kind of relates to kpi being a ku fan, but i hope memphis gets john wall. that would be another pro to add to cal’s resume.

most of dukes players are good in college and suck in the pros: Redick, and Shelden Williams
but wake forest has had stars like cp3, tim duncan, and josh howard.
