Lotto StudParticipantTerrence Jones
February, 2010: Jones is the best player and prospect on the west coast for the class of 2010. The lengthy lefty is a hybrid 4-man that can hurt the defense in a variety of ways. His frame is terrific and he possesses Lamar Odom-like skills. He handles the ball very well in the open court and may be the best passer, for his size, in the country. He punishes defense with his dribble penetration and is very unselfish. He can finish with a variety of shots and is an excellent slasher as well. In the half court set he utilizes the pump fake to get his defender off balance, but he does settle too much for the 3-point shot. Although he has made a number of 3s during his senior campaign, the mechanics of his shot need an overhaul. He winds up too much (slow release) and his shot overall is very inconsistent. On the other hand, there are times-though not enough-where he ventures into the post to take advantage of his size and strength. With his hands and vision he could be a dominant post threat, but at this stage of his game, he likes to hang out on the perimeter more often than he should. Jones has a unique skill set and with proper coaching and attention to detail he could be a dynamite hybrid 4-man at the next level and beyond.
C.J. Leslie
December, 2009: One of the top remaining unsigned players in the Class of 2010 Leslie is one of the most athletic players in the country that plays way above the rim. He rebounded from a frustrating (4 point 2 rebound) first half to finish with 25 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. He has a developing face-up game and can knock down a 15-17 foot jumper, but excels as Amare Stoudemire-type player that is a great finisher and offensive rebounder. If he become a more consistent free-throw shooter he will be even more of a handful to guard as he gets himself to the charity stripe often, but doesn’t consistently cash-in. He has the ability to get to balls outside off his area and is a heat seeker that can change momentum when he gets into rebounding mode. With his length and explosiveness he is also an outstanding shot blocker that forces his opponents to think twice when attacking the basket. At times he shows some questionable body language that sends up red flags to evaluators, but I hope it is just immaturity that he will grow out off.

Do you think if C.J. would have went to UK he would have been as successful as Terrence in his Fr. season?
If C.J. was at UK with Terrence who would have had a bigger role in the offense?

BKKnicksfanParticipantWhat does this have to do with Coach Cal?

OhCanada-ParticipantPeople would appreciate his game alot more at UK. He would also have much better players around him to make him look better. He would probally be in this draft and considered a lottery pick if he went to UK.

D-Rose1ParticipantI disagree with OhCanada. I think CJ Leslie’s game would have been exposed more at UK. Terrence Jones fits Calipari’s dribble drive offense much much better than CJ does. As someone stated already, Leslie is just a great athlete right now with tons of potential. He’s very raw and I think that would have hurt him in Cal’s system. He would have his big dunks, put back, etc. but I dont think Leslie would be a lottery pick this year if he played at UK. I dont think he would be a lottery pick this year regardless of where he went to college though. Hes got to become a bit more skilled and fundamentally sound first.

surveParticipantI agree with OhCanada, there is little doubt in my mind that Leslie would have shined more at UK and wouldve have much higher draft stock. That is not to say he would be a better player, theroretically…but stat wise he wouldve appeared much better. Leslie couldve went a lot of places besides NCSU. I am from Raleigh and Leslie is from here and I can tell you, when he decommitted the first time, he shouldve went to Florida (because Jones had already committed to UK). Sidney Lowe’s offense was absolutely all wrong for Leslie’s style of play.
