Cliff made Portlands opening day Roster, hopefully he can stay on the right track.. Most people dont realize why he went on undrafted..He had a failed drug test coupled with the fact he has a learning disability scared teams away.. I wish him the best of luck in Portland

Also, Mitch McGary failed a drug test and has a learning disability too. Hell, he was coming off a mystery injury/surgery too.  He was a first round pick despite that.

The difference between the 2? McGary was actually good when he played in college.

There were grumblings that Brandon Wright had a severe learning disability when he was going through the draft process. One scout said that he was unable to grasp certain drills in practice. It’s a legitimate thing to worry about but basketball really isn’t rocket science- especially if you’re not a guard.

If you have the passion and work ethic, you can overcome the extra time needed to catch up with the playbook. Unfortunately, I’m not sure Cliff has those two traits. At least not from what I saw around draft time.

I’m giving you guys information that was not in the media, Cliff Alexander was not signed with any NBA team so lawfully it protects Cliff from certain information teams disclose.. That being said if your close to the Chicago Basketball scene your pretty aware of why Cliff went undrafted… I’ve posted several threads on draft day about his situation.

Guys, I’ve been covering Chicago High School Ball since I was 14 years old, just trust me on this..

No. Post anything that even comes close to mentioning any of this.

Gbee, you’re illuminating your lack of knowledge of how delicate the pre-draft process is for all parties involved; Player,Team and Players Agent alike…

Curie HS, the team Alexander played on in HS forfeited a season due to Cliff Alexander’s and other students GPA below 2.0.. You can look into it yourself if you’d like.. His problems in school are well documented..

Ok now where does it say he went undrafted because of a learning disability and a failed drug test? Until I see something I’ll just assume that you’re talking out of your ass.  There’s literally no reason to believe you.

Now tell me what the difference is b/t his "supposed" situation, according to your Stephen A. Sources, and Mitch McGary’s REAL situation.

No reason to believe him? What about the fact that Cliff was a borderline first round prospect that went undrafted?

Is there also no reason to believe that Upshaw didn’t get drafted because of hard drug addiction? Are you positive it was some other "violation of team rules" because you haven’t seen video of Upshaw snorting a line?

In Christian Wood’s case, the rumor is he was telling every team that he wanted to be a small forward and play like Kevin Durant. Is that impossible to believe without audio proof of his team interviews?

Yes, exactly. No reason to believe him. Not in this day and age of social media where rumors spread before they are either substantiated or dismissed.  If you have your ear anywhere close to the ground following the draft, you hear the whispers, you hear mentions of "red flags."  None of that was brought up.  A simple search of this rumor leads nowhere. No tweets, no rumors, no posts, no hints, no nothing.

The fact is that ever since Cliff left HS he did nothing to maintain or improve his stock.  He started off the year injured. Got injured again during the year. Injured again during the pre-draft process.  So there are immediately concerns on whether he’s injury prone.  When he played, he looked like a raw 6’8 center.  Raw both in terms of skill and understanding of the game on either end of the floor.  He looked completely lost on defense and his athleticism wasn’t enough to make up for that because he was still slow to rotate.  On top of that, he gassed easily and his game did not match the ferocity and physicality that he played with in HS.  He looked neutered in the college game.  Then he wasn’t able to showcase his game during the most important stretch of the season from an evaluation standpoint while he sat while under investigation.  There was no way for scouts to see if he had made any progress during the season to display an ability to learn, adjust or his rate of improvement.  Pre-draft festivities commence and he gets injured so he can’t work out for teams or at least put his physical ability on display.  All he could he really do was interview and it turns out he was a bad interview, blaming his lackluster showing in college on "the system."  It’s been all downhill for Cliff since HS and that trail that I just described is more substantive than "failed drug test and learning disability" of which you can find zero mention of anywhere.

Upshaw’s transgressions are known. Being kicked off of 2 teams is enough to red flag him without knowing the exact details.  He also happens to be a sloppy athlete physically (7′ with mantits) and not much of a game outside of being tall and long.

In Christian Wood’s case all you had to do was watch him play.  Austin Daye 2.0 with an even worse shot. Yet another physically weak, low IQ stretch who doesn’t actually stretch the floor.  Him not being drafted wasn’t a surprise.

I’ve been around the game a long time myself, and have played with probably 50+ current/former players in my lifetime. I’d say that 20-ish % of them sound like f@ck!ng Pootie Tang, and 20% of that 20% might legitimately not be able to spell their own names. If you’re big and you can play, you get drafted. Alexander was a physically dominant [read: WAY bigger and stronger] HS player that can’t really play basketball and lost his physical advantage in college. Point blank, he’s not that good. Don’t be surprised if and when he’s in the D-League/Off the NBA radar by mid-season.

Why would someone thumb this down? This is indisputable fact. He averaged 7 pts and 5 boards a game while showing ZERO ability other than being big with freakishly long arms. He didn’t get drafted ’cause no one thought he can contribute. Kids with gang affiliations, drug problems, anger issues, learning disabilities, etc… get drafted into every major pro sport by the tens every single year. Alexander has no definable NBA skill, so he got hung out to dry. Portland’s in a bad spot, so they’re giving him a chance. That’s all there is to it.

Over 10% of the population has a learning disability. They said I had one. In high school I only had a 2.3 and by the end of college I was getting a 4.0. Having a learning disability often doesn’t mean that much. I’d be willing to bet every team has one or two guys with a learning disability.

Gbee you are obviously unaware of how this stuff works, Mitch McGary was an NCAA athlete at the time of him testing positive, Cliff Alexander was not in College or obviously in the league.. He was in the interview process and was protected by his  agent with disclosure agreements while interviewing and working out with NBA teams.. the disclosure agreements allow teams to gather an amount of information on players to make informed decisions, while protecting the player, this is why players hire agents.. Team execs are savy.. they understand releasing information about prospects character or prior red flags not known to the public would create bad relationships among the Agents representing players..

Sure, these "positive drug tests" are so confidential and so protected that every single team that had a draft pick was privy to said information and decided to pass on him because of it.  I expect a lawsuit coming from Alexander’s people.  All that collusion and sharing of confidential info to conspire against Cliff.  We all know how much NBA FOs look out for eachother and want them to avoid making draft mistakes /s.

Either that or he must’ve failed every single drug test that was administered to him by every single team that looked into him.  This sounds like the most guarded secret in the history of the NBA draft bc we all know there are no such thing as leaks.

The BS stank is getting stronger.

Ok buddy..heres another example of information not getting leaked..About a year ago I posted exactly why Todd Mayo of Marquette left from the team.. The media never had any real “information” on why he left the team and why his presence was a cancer to the locker room.. So what your saying Gbee is if the media doesn’t get to it.. It must not be true, if you believe the league and NCAA present everything to the media you’re sadly mistaken.

Like I said, take it for what its worth..
