valentineThis guy must have documented sociopathic tendancies or something.
Because to me, he almost looks like the ideal modern basketball player. And he may even be still growing.
His 3 pt % in the NBA is 42-44%, though on a tiny sample size. He’s 6’11-ish tall. He just turned 20. He’s starting to fill out.
7’3"+ wingspan. 9’3.5" standing reach, as of last summer. Probably higher now.
He can handle the ball like a guard, and has good athleticism, that could turn great with the right attitude adjustment.
This guy can do it all, even guarding all three front court positions.
If Christian Wood is such a cancer that his career is effectively over, then help me find the next Christian Wood.
Because damn it, this kid has every measureable and skill set that I’d be looking for in a potential future GOAT.
I just want to say that one more reason draft position is overrated is because a team with no draft picks could sign Christian Wood right now, and he’d have as much upside and untapped development as just about any rookie coming in next year, or most any year.
In today’s game, Christian Wood is exactly what you want at power forward.
Uptempo, motion offense? plug this player type in at PF, with some minutes at center, for the next 10+ years.
Once this guy hits 240 lbs and fixes his major malfunction, whatever it is, he could be the next Whiteside type redemption/success story.
His attitude must be terrible if even the 76ers dropped him.

GBeeParticipantNo, he sucks. He’s a stretch that doesn’t stretch. Twig like frame, overrated athleticism, low IQ with an aversion to physical play. His sample size in college and the D-League is larger and he’s shot 26% and 16% respectively from 3.
Poor man’s Perry Jones…and we see where Perry is now. We’ve seen plenty of players like him who don’t really play a valuable role as inconsistent (or in Wood’s case, poor) shooting, low IQ, finesse bigs. ex guys like PJ3, Donte Greene and Shawne Williams.
The reason why he was let go is more likely the same reason he wasn’t drafted.

Very BuseyThanks, I didn’t know he was shooting that poorly from 3 in DLeague

Last I heard, PJ3 wasn’t even getting minutes in DLeague. Wood is getting 26 mpg, so all is not lost yet.

NBAjunkie81Participantbut remember Phila Liked him so much they cut Furkan Aldemir……. who they liked so much that they had a $3 Mil contract & they just dumped it to keep Woods…… I saw Woods a little bit & he’s got talent…… He remined me of Darius Miles – a really raw version……. I think Phila really likes Richaun Holmes……
They took Holmes in the 2nd round & he is very similar to Woods but he’s thicker & he’s got a mean streak on the court but he’s a great kid & he’s a heck of a shot blocker….. Woods is a kid who will play in Europe & maybe in the NBA when he gets a few years exp….. but the NBA is so specialized now…… There just isn;t many roster spots even on a team like Phila…..
How sad is it that I know all this….. I’m not even a Sixers fan….

Very BuseyMore competition for NBA roster spots coming next summer too. But he’ll get there. Big men take the longest to develop, and that especially includes 3 point shooting.
Porzingis shot 32% from 3 in his 2 years in Europe. Olynyk only shot 30% from 3 his last year in college, now he’s a 3 Point Contest Invitee.
Not saying Wood is in that class as a shooter, but just suggesting that there’s room for improvement for Wood.

BrentSuriaga01ParticipantI thought of Anthony Randolph at first, but when I realized, at least Anthony Randolph had a couple of years under his belt in the NBA unlike this guy who might have seen his last glimpse in the NBA. He should be thinking about China or Israel right now.

holefillers1ParticipantI watched him all preseason. Great athlete who blocks tons of shots and can stretch the floor sometimes. Problem is his bbiq is so freakin limited. He can’t get himself in good spots for rebounds or box outs. Junkie 81 is right about Richaun Holmes. Sixers love this kid and he is almost as athletic as Wood. The best D-Leaguers are usually borderline NBA players.

phila9012ParticipantThe NBA is so competitive now. It takes some guys a few years to round out their games and bodies. It doesn’t matter if it is in the D League, in college or overseas. I think eventually it will be normal to see guys spend 2 to 4 years in the D league or overseas then make a solid career in the NBA. What I am saying is that he is only 20, give him 3 or 4 years to work on shooting and his body.

holefillers1ParticipantHassan Whiteside did a beautiful job improving his game until the NBA couldn’t ignore him any longer. Your right, it can be done.
