    Chris Copeland, for those of you who dont know him, is a backup forward for the Knicks…He was signed this offseason by New York and a lot of us didnt even know who he was but he can fill it up when he gets minutes…

    This season: 6.5 ppg, 1.3 rpg, 49% FG, 36% 3PT, 79% FT, 16.78 PER (higher than Batum, OJ Mayo, Marcus Thornton, Jeff Teague, JJ Redick, JR Smith, John Wall, Steve Nash, Andre Iguodala, Luol Deng, Wilson Chandler, and hundreds more)

    Tonight he scored 12 points in 7 minutes, on Feb 20th, he had 13 points in 10 minutes

    In games where he has played 20+ minutes:

    point totals: 22, 8, 23, 14, 8, 29

    In december he averaged 13 points, 2 boards, 57% shooting, 50% from, 86% from the free throw line

    He is WAY more efficient than kidd or shumpert. He is actually moderately useful on offense unlike James White (one of the least talented offensive players in the NBA)…He can shoot as well as Novak for a fraction of the price, and can actually stick with his man…Why he doesnt play more? Beats me. Mike Woodson’s lineups are so bizarre. I think hes going to get a lot of minutes with Amare bein out.

    I wouldn’t say most underrated but I see what you are saying. I think he can become a good role player for the knicks.

    Sure he can play and score… but scoring is not the only thing you have to do on a basketball court.

    Most of rookies didn’t play much in their first years because of their defense. Mike woodson is a defense oriented coach who won’t let copeland play much minutes till he’s not sure he can compete and be a key factor on the defensive end (even if melo stoud’ and JR “let me shoot” smith are all terrible on D… but their status is not the same).

    Lots of players can score in the nba… but not all of them can play : tony delk was a terrific scorer (one game at 50and+), flip murray was a scoring machine with the sonics …

    PER doesn’t show everything… maybe copeland can have this level of play on 15 or 20 minutes but can not repeat this EVERY game during 30 minutes. Batum can play 30 and more minutes every game and keep his level of intensity both in D and O. Stats don’t show yourdefense commitment, collective defense helps and so on…

      Well said. I feel that sometimes people weigh PER too heavily and give it more importance than it deserves. It is a useful stat, but it hardly shows everything.

    He’s also an abysmal defender. He really cant stay with 3’s and is too small for most 4’s. Plus he’s always slow on rotations, which has been a staple of their defense all season. He’s also very limited handling the ball, creating his own shot, and making plays for others. He’s above average as a shooter, but below average everywhere else.

    Also, JR is a much, much better defender when committed. I don’t think I’ve seen Copeland make a more than one good defensive play a game.

    But your right about an uptick in minute with Amare out. The Knicks are going to need someone to keep second team defenses honest.

    I would say he’s one of the most underated “scorers” but not player just because he’s so slow footed which makes him below avg defensively and he’s like 6’8 but can’t rebound that good.

    For him to stick in the league he has to do more or score at a high clip without killing the integrity of his teams defense.

    Btw a little knowledge on Copeland, he actually led some European league in scoring one year I believe.

    What is the deal with James White starting? I haven’t really ever caught enough of the game to see him on the floor. But I didn’t think he was actually an NBA level player. It seems like there are designated starters on the Knicks but there is no chance White or Kurt Thomas will see actual significant minutes during the course of the game.

    I’ve been catching Nets games lately, so only see part of the Knicks. I really don’t get the rotation.

      Likes starting white strickly for his defense and the fact he like j.r smith to come in to boost the energy. Kurt Thomas at 40 still plays solid d and has a high I.Q

        I guess I get bring Jr smith off the bench.but Kurt is playing ten minutes a game even though he starts. I don’t really get it.

    I dont get Woodson at all…the Knicks get like 20 points from their starting 5 if they’re lucky (With melo out)
