PlatypusParticipantTroubled former Indiana Pacers forward Shawne Williams has been arrested after police found marijuana and a loaded gun in the car he was driving. Memphis police say Williams and his former University of Memphis teammate Kareem Cooper were pulled over in a Dodge Charger on Friday because Williams wasn’t wearing a seat belt. He was charged with driving on a suspended license. Police then searched the car and say they found more than 17 grams of marijuana and a gun on Cooper.
He had incidents with the Pacers, who drafted him 17th in 2006 (four spots ahead of point guard Rajon Rondo). You probably remember the most stunning moment: A man wanted on a murder charge in Memphis was arrested after leaving Williams’ home in a vehicle registered to Williams. Two years ago this month, I was talking with Williams on the Pacers practice court, shortly after Larry Bird proclaimed Williams on “very thin ice.” “I just hope the thin ice don’t break,” Williams told me. “I’m going to do everything in my power to keep it thin and try to thicken it up a little bit.” How hollow that sounds now

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantYea, I agree with Deflam. Rogers had a couple good games for the Lions. Williams was scrubby from day 1.

WizardofOzParticipantI was in the NBA, I would do everything I can to stay in the NBA, like not getting arrested and always working hard. These kind of athletes make me mad. They waste so much talent.

ghettosermonParticipantGod what a waste in talent. Really the only explanation for why he hasn’t at least been able to get on the court is complete laziness and not giving a crap about his career, because talent wise he had rare shooting and athletic ability for a guy his size. He had a great skill set and really could play multiple positions. I feel no pity for him.
